I took my pair of Adios 8 up to 310 miles before retiring. I used it as a daily trainer, shorter workouts, and even some long runs up 12 miles. The outsole still looked virtually brand new and could’ve easily gone for another 200 miles. I retired it early as I started to feel aches in my legs after running in them that I wouldn’t get in other shoes. An absolute joy to run in and will eventually end up getting the Adios 9 later in the year.
That big outsole pad was amazing. Made the shoe weighted towards the toe as well (it was heavy) but made the shoe so durable and "beefy" for it's size. Agree on wear, I got my A8s up to around 190mi and other than a small patch of wear on the lateral forefoot on my right shoe (my high wear area on any shoe) the outsole looked new. It was even better than the Boston 12 outsole (which was great too).
Love my Adios 8. I'm one of those who enjoy it for easy runs, too. I think it's detrimental to one' s running form and strength to run in beefed up super and max stack shoes all the time. The Adios actually helps relieve my little pains and aches from running!
Youve been telling me to look out for this shoe for some time now. I love the 8 (again purchased after watching your videos and your generous replies to comments) and can't thank you enough for the work you put in. Im so happy to see your take on the 9, sounds like its just what im after. Plenty more ks left in my 8, but ill be keeping a lookout for the random adidas huge discount (another thing i only know of because of you) thanks again mate.
I’m glad the A8 worked so well for you. That shoe is built like a tank and should last forever… especially that forefoot rubber. The good thing about the Adios is sales are frequent and good deals can always be found. Let me know how you get on with the A9 when you get a pair.
Just got the Adios 9 in to replace my Streakfly shoes for fast track work. Very excited, but my first experience with the Adios line. Interesting to hear how it has evolved!
The A9 is going to be a MASSIVE change for you then. Give them time and come in with no expectations. They are a better shoe, but if you have spent that much time in the A8s...you'll need a big adjustment period. Good luck!
I love my Adios 8. yes a very traditional running shoe that can almost do it all except long runs. Looking forward to getting the V9 sometime this year. Will you be comparing Adios 9 with Evo SL in performance matrix? As maybe a potential two shoe training rotation?
Love how you described it as fitting like a glove! Do you see the Adios 9 as an alternative to the Takumi Sen 10 for track workout, speed work and similar activities, etc.
Yes, the A9 is a better track shoe and workout shoe. if you can learn to have good form and efficiency in the A9...when you put on a plates/rodded shoe...it will feel like a rocket.
They do look great in person. I also like to get a Ekiden color way from Adidas of Nike yearly as well. I'm waiting for the triple white/non-dyed color way though... will definitely get those.
Just the review I needed thanks. Adios 5 was good for me and skipped to the 8 having have Adios since the first version. Just waiting for that colourway to appear in UK.
Was really hoping youd do this, and you delivered! I just retired the A8 after over 300 miles to casual wear. I rotated it last year for short to mid faster daily runs last year. the shoe is so durable i couldve gone another 100 or so. one complaint was going too slow and heel striking felt like landing on crusty marshmallows. Will definitely get the A9.
Nothing replaced them. Adidas went back to a simple midfoot shank, like every other Adios has ever had, to control torsional twist. This is a low stack shoe that has few stability concerns, even in a softer foam.
Have just bought 2 pairs of Adios 8 for under £80. My go to tempo and session shoe for 2025. Ran a whole lot in the SL20 in 2020 and loved that for everything. Adios 8 is a similar profile but massive upgrade to the ride feel. My modern day replacement for the Asics DS trainer from 15 years ago.
I’d say the both the changes in the Boston 10 vs the Boston 9 and especially the Takumi Sen 8 vs the Sen 7 were pretty darn dramatic as well. It can really be hit or miss with these changes, but it seems like the Adios 9 is a good one!
It's funny, all of those were the same generation as the Adios 5 to 6... all of them. Adidas redid everything in that generation... so much so it's taken them a few years to really get back to where they should have been in the first place. 2025 is look strong for Adidas.
The A9 is less that the Peg Plus (the Plus is a trainer so built to be more stable) but better than the SL2 (due to the medial midfoot/heel design and overall stack height).
I've got a pair of vaporfly 2s that I was planning on using this track season for workouts, but I don't know. Think I'll be looking into finding a sail on the 9s and trying them out. Also, it looks like it's supposed to forefoot strike, i don't know if thats true though.
For me, Adios 9...you get the training effect of the flexibility and ground feel to maximize mechanics development. if you can run fast in efficient in a shoe like the A9... putting on a plated shoe will feel like a rocket. A9 to train, TS11 to race.
Had the adios 4 boost, then the 7 and now the 9; they are my Bostons....because the Boston it´s gone since the 10° version.....they are perfect for everything (at least for me) because like you said i´m one of those who likes to run in flats....
The Boston was gone after the 9 (I know what you meant though). The Boston 9 was the high water mark for the series. The Boston 12 was good...but not as good as the Boston 9 (which is maybe still my favorite running shoe of all time, though that may change in 2025). The Adios 4 was great as well. I think that might be the Adios I spent the most time in, prior to the Adios 8.
Adios 9 looks more rockered both on the heel and toe. I have the adios 8 and love them for intervals and fartlek runs. What do you think is best for fartlek runs between Evo sl, sl2 and the adios 9? How does the new Lsp compare with the old ones? Thanks.
Fartleks?...definitely the Evo SL. New LSP is much much softer that old LSP. Slightly better resilience in the new LSP, but it has a slower energy return than old LSP. New LSO is more like ZoomX.
Adidas could have simply removed the plastic torsion system from the Adios 8 and it would have been a great shoe. In my opinion the torsion system deadened the ride of that shoe and made it a little slappy and less flexible than it could have been. (Just got to the end of the video where you basically say the same thing!) In any case, looking forward to the Adios 9 (probably when they go on sale!).
🤣 💯 I am happy with the A9 though... it's better than I expected and more than I wanted...but I'll take it. I'm happy Adidas is giving a shoe like this this much attention. It's about time.
I don't know if I'm the only one that has a problem with how Adizero lineuo fit my feet, for their 2024-2025 lineup. The midfoot area in the arch is extremely narrow. Starting with the SL2. The midsole feels great, but the arch support really push the middle of my feet's arch area, to the point where it feels painful just to stand in them during my testing at the store. Tried to jump and run a few steps, the midsole is great, but my arch just can't bear it. My arch literally hangs over the arch support. It's ridiculous. Tried the wide version, tried a half size up. Still felt it. Decided not to buy the SL2. When Adios 9 came out, rushed to the store to try it. unfortunately, same experience with SL2. Quite sad because I love the feel of the shoe😢. I had no problem with the Boston 12. Still using them as my longrun shoe. Adios 8 also fit my feet well. I did not buy the 8 because I wanted to wait for the 9. Well, seems like I just have to buy the 8 then... For reference, my feet are low arch. Not flat, but low arch. Yes, I overpronate, but never nees a stability shoe in my 13 years of running so far. Just asking if anyone experience the same with the current adizero lineup. The supernova lineup fits me fine, though. Feels comfortable.
The current Adidas design direction, first seen in the Takumi Sen 10 and the SL2, is not kind to any type of pronation. The lack of midfoot material in many models, the medial heel bumper design and the softer foams add up to make a nightmare for anyone with even mild pronation or feet that aren't strong (which a flat/low arch is a sign of). The B12 is so firm as a platform that I'm not surprised it didn't give you issues...same for the Adios 8. That Lightstrike 2.0 foam in both shoes was insanely stout. The Evo SL might be a shoe to try. I've found the medial midfoot and heel structure to be very good and the shoe overall pushes you to the outside of the foot. However, the top loaded shank, directly under the arch, may cause issues for your foot... worth a try though.
@SagasuRunning yes, haven't tried the Evo SL yet. If it fits, might buy the to replace the boston 12. For workouts, might buy the discounted Adios 8 or the brooks Hyperion 2, which is also good. I'm currently using the Kinvara 13 for workouts. Love the Kinvara 13. simple, light and effective shoe for pretty much everything starting from easy to 5k pace.
Can't fully understand Adidas making the Adios 9 in the same design language/launch alongside the Pro 4, but in a thinner shoe without rods. Unless *all* Adizero shoes are going to follow suit with this design language. Makes me wonder where the Takumi Sen design can/should go (to differentiate itself from the Adios 9 visually, or not).
TS11 is essentially a shoe with a little more stack, slightly different geometry and rods. It's not been confirmed that the TS11 will have the new foam, but I think that is a safe assumption. Yes, the new design language is going through the entire Adizero range.
It's quite amazing that that the simplicity of the Adios 9 really has this great appeal to me. Adidas nailed the combination of comfy upper, soft but bouncy midsole and light and grippy outsole in the Adios 9. The 8th version is also great. I just didn't like the sensation of small stones hitting the torsion rods.
I'm not sure if I'm down on the mixed foam / carrier foam concept or mixing something with Lightstrike Pro or I just dislike Lightstrike and Lightstrike 2.0. But either way, the mixed foam adidas shoes have all felt compromised to me. The Lighstrike is dead-feeling or Lightstrike 2.0 is both dead and squishy -- like it has a weird vibration dampening characteristic. In addition Lightstrike has a very different shelf-life than LSP. It is the collapse and breakdown of Lighstrike that limits the longevity of all mixed-foam adizero shoes that I have tried including the adios 6,7, and 8 and the lightstrike Botsons. The only reason that is not totally bad is that the rear Lighstrike portion provides negative proprioceptic feedback to mid or farther back strike. In any case I am very excited to see the end of the mixed foam adizero concepts.
Me too...the mixed foam/carrier foam thing Adidas has been doing in Adizero since 2020 limited or killed a bunch of shoes that could have been so much better. In the 2025 like the only shoe that looks to still be mixed foams is the Boston 13 (though this isn't confirmed and we don't know the foams in the shoe). Everything else has a single foam...which is outstanding. Fully agre eon LS/LS2.0...it was one of the worst EVAs out there.
I love the Adios 8. I’m pretty frustrated Adidas gave up on it almost a year ago and didn’t restock it on their US website. I would have liked to pick up another pair
Really? I didn't know it disappeared in the US. It's been on the shelves here in Taiwan since release day. There have only been one or two color ways, but it has been around. Hopefully they put more energy behind the Adios 9. it's already replaced the shelve space here in retail.
I think I'll skip the Adios 9. Might be a bit too much ground feel to me;) The 5 was the last and only one I had. I'll keep my eyes open though for a Takumi Sen 11. That might be a bit more down my alley.
I was just about to watch your review on the Adios 8 to compare against the Adios 9 when this vid dropped!😄 So the A9 is more versatile, and both can still do easy running, but we're still talking about a speed trainer. It makes sense the drop on the A9 might come across as a negative one due to the softer foam. I'm guessing that would be more of a problem for heel strikers (and maybe midfoot too). For reference, how soft is the foam in the A9 if you had to compare it against something like the SNR or Peg 41?
looking at the comparison of adios 8 vs 9, it highlights the complexity of 8 and I presume increase COGS. With the simplicity of 9, I am sure Adidas will improve the margin.
I don't know, simple often costs more as it emphasizes tolerances and material choices even more. Regardless, I appreciate the massive streamlining of design and engineering for the entire Adizero range. It's been a long time coming and MUCH needed.
What about the durability of the 9 ? Are you sure the new outsole is more resistant than the Continental one ? It sounds too good to be true. To me it really seems to be a lightweight fragile shoe Besides, that curved sole bothers me for a training shoe
I took my pair of Adios 8 up to 310 miles before retiring. I used it as a daily trainer, shorter workouts, and even some long runs up 12 miles. What until you get into the flexibility of the Adios 9. Talk about a good running form diagnostic...
@SagasuRunning in the fall😉
100% agree with your comments on the Adios 8 and love your performance matrix! I loved the adios 8 and can't wait to get the Adios 9
The Adios is always special and has had some good years, some bad years and this year a great one! Enjoy the A9 when you get them.
@@SagasuRunning just got my Adios 9s after watching your video. How would compare top end speed vs the Takumi Sen?
@@user-qc6mo7tr7c Same but different mechanics in play. A flexible shoe vs a stiff one... you'll get very different training effects.
hands down best content on yt 😂🙌🏼 adios is one of my fav line
Adios is a classic...I'm happy to see Adidas elevate it back into the main Adizero lineup with tech and design language.

Thanks for great review! On my second pair of adios 8s, loved them, run everything up to 21km , i don’t run in anything else. Can’t wait to try the 9s

Ha! Crusty marshmallows. Not to mention the awful sounds the TorsionRods would make with little stones of gravel on the pavement. Oh the memories.
What did replace the torsion rods for Adios9? I think that removing the rods will make Aidos9 a bit unstable.....is this right?
Nothing replaced them. Adidas went back to a simple midfoot shank, like every other Adios has ever had, to control torsional twist. This is a low stack shoe that has few stability concerns, even in a softer foam.
Loved the Adios 5
The 5 was outstanding. Agree.

How is the adios 9 stability compared to the peg plus and the sl 2? They already feel very neutral.
The A9 is less that the Peg Plus (the Plus is a trainer so built to be more stable) but better than the SL2 (due to the medial midfoot/heel design and overall stack height).

The A9 is definitely intended as speed shoe, therefore up on your toes. Training in the A9 and racing in the VF2 sounds like a great plan.
So, when it comes down to speed interval training/track training, would the Adios 9 or the Takumi Sen 10 be the better buy?
For me, Adios 9...you get the training effect of the flexibility and ground feel to maximize mechanics development. if you can run fast in efficient in a shoe like the A9... putting on a plated shoe will feel like a rocket. A9 to train, TS11 to race.
Kind of a stretch but is it better for fast Intervalls than the boston 12?
Depends. For 1k and under, I'd say so. For longer the firmness and rocker of the B12 will come into play.
Had the adios 4 boost, then the 7 and now the 9; they are my Bostons....because the Boston it´s gone since the 10° version.....they are perfect for everything (at least for me) because like you said i´m one of those who likes to run in flats....

Boston 9 to Boston 10 is massive change
A painful one too… I have a video on the Boston series that goes into that one in detail. It was the same generation from Adios 5 to 6 though.
@@SagasuRunning I actually like Adios 6/7. But still, older ones were better. Adios 8 is close to 3,4,5 for me.
Adios 6/7 and Boston 10/11 were awful updates and really killed both series for many. It was good the Adios 8 and Boston 12 changed that.
