I've been working on the fire in Eagle Creek just south of Sandy and Wednesday night I went to Subway around 8 pm to grab a few sandwiches for the guys working on the line with me and four young men who I would guess were in their late teens were asking how the fires were going. We chatted for a few minutes while my sandwiches were being made and they thanked me for everything we've been doing on the fires. They left with their food and I was waiting to pay for my order and the employee told me that those young men paid for the sandwiches and wanted her to thank us once again. When I walked out I saw them standing around their car, eating their food and I told them I really appreciated what they did and said. Honestly their act of kindness and appreciation really gave me hope for where our country is right now. If by chance any of you guys see this I'd like you to know I told the crew what you did and everyone was completely humbled by it.

Cody thank you so much for mentioning backfeeding the grid. And homeowners should note that how we bond our equipment to ground to prevent backfeeding from killing us will likely also destroy your generator.
I've always wondered why backfeeding doesn't immediately pop the breakers on a generator. You're trying to power the entire neighborhood and/or running it into a fault unless it's just your line.
Hugh Brackett it’s because a transformer works both ways. If u put 120/240 into it , it puts out primary voltage out the top which could be up to 19000 volts. This high voltage uses very minimal amps so a powerful generator may not notice it. Grounding makes no difference. The only way to prevent this is to disconnect or open up from your utility source. What a great friend, helluva a good guy. I’m out here and cannot stress enough how grateful EVERYBODY is to all the volunteers like you working 24hrs, barely sleeping, fighting these fires and doing whatever it takes. And now also patrolling to make sure no looting is happening. Outskirts of Sandy, Estacada and Molalla a few homes have already been burglarized. Disgusting. Thank you for all you’re doing.
My mom and her bf went and rescued a bunch of animals last night from owners who evacuated and left their farm animals behind. Now I have 3 goats, 2 sheep, and an alpaca in my small backyard. Oregon btw.
Being from a nation that hardly has wildfires (specialy on this schale). It almost looks surreal. Youre driving around going to a supply store and the next moment you drive trough thick smoke. The fact during these times you do your best effort to teach everyone some of the basics is amazing.
I work for a well drilling company in boring oregon. You want to make sure when you're wiring a generator to run the pump that you feed the power to the pressure switch not directly to the control box. When you wire it directly to the control box then the well pump will never shut off and you have the potential to blow pipes up. Shut off your breaker, Take the lid off the pressure switch, unscrew the two hots (usually on the outside of the pressure switch, but no matter what it will be the two wires coming from the breaker or power source) then replace those two with the wires from the generator including the ground. That way the pressure switch stays in the loop and you won't blow pipes up.
Thank you so much for making these videos!! It’s enough that you are doing this great work, but to share it with us all is truly remarkable and an inspiration.
That's the setup I use here, generator for the well with the sprinklers wetting the sides of the house and as far out as they can reach. Good luck out there. Our fire season just ended with the first rainy cold front yesterday.
Here in upstate N.Y. we don’t have the seasonal fire issues like you guys do. We have burning bans in dry times, but nothing like out west. The only chance to protect and save is left to individuals.....Now we understand how important it is to some firefighting equipment. Good job and good luck !
Quite often, I don't like your politics, I'm not a fan of your philosophy. But you're a good man, community is everything and watching people support their community in times of need is one of the best things to see. Good work.
For future layouts, if you add a tee in the sprinkler line to make the entire line a giant loop you will get more even flow to all of the sprinklers and may even be able to run more heads.
It will double the amount of heads you can connect essentially great info. For instance u can run drip tubing 500 ft in one line. With a tee connected in on itself in a big circle you can run 1000ft of it. Heads are different then drip tubing or netafim is what we use in idaho but the concept of water flow/pressure is the same
Good luck!!! And as for the sprinklers, I tried running those pass through sprinklers. Two sprinklers were all I could run with 3/4" hose. And 5/8" hoses wouldn't run them.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Michael here in Florida, a lineman was killed after someone hooked generator up to their house. He was a good man and a friend of many. Thank you for mentioning that!
Cody, you're a true Man's Man. I commend you for dropping whatever you are doing and helping others like that. That's exactly the way friends and family work together, and if they're not friends, they will be after LOL. Karma is a great thing to great people.
Thank you for bringing up back feed potential with improperly hooked up generators. Very real and very dangerous for line crews. Understanding what you are doing is a must
Better to stay safe and save peoples home then to do videos for us. I am very grateful for the videos because my parents live in salem and us in bend. The updates do help a lot. Thank you.
Just a thought, but it may not be practical. What about running the hose all the way around and back to the faucet, and "tee" into it so you have a more even pressure to the sprinklers? I imagine the 4th sprinkler on the straight run of hose doesn't put out a lot.
People helping each other, God bless. Just remember, if you can smell smoke, then little particles is going into your lungs. Please be safe. Thanks for the information

My thoughts and prayers are with you, and thanks for doing this wonderful service. I've had a lot of friends, family and neighbors devastated by the Almeda fire in Jackson county. God bless.
Thanks for doing what you're doing, and for taking the time, even in the stressful, urgent situation, to make some quick videos for us. You've been my main "Oregon wildland fire" information source yesterday and today. I'd much rather watch you than the lamestream media! I have some acquaintances in SW Oregon (Grants Pass and Klamath Falls). I heard today that they are all doing ok, but the communities are struggling some. I always knew of course that wildfires are bad, even deadly, but I haven't ever had the inside picture that I've had this time around. Being a center coast (i.e. Midwest) guy, I just didn't grow up dealing with this sort of thing. I can't imagine. Keep it up, be safe, and be smart. Y'all are in my prayers.
If you find yourself any spare 50 gallon barrels, that is another water storage you can use in a pinch. it won't put out any big fires, but it can help put out small ones from the back of your truck. I am 2000 miles away, so I can't help, so I am throwing spaghetti at the wall in hopes it gives you peeps a good idea. Gardening water cans are also convenient. Dunk it in a pool or pond, and you got a short range portable thing that can douse small fires. I've used them on occasion to control some unplanned back-burns. Oh, and those pesticide pump thingies. I have one that I can carry on my belt and pump out stuff. put water in that and you can spray small fires out. I hope my little ideas can help someone out there somewhere. I do know that sparks can jump a fire miles away into dry suburbs. if any of you peeps are near a fire, keep an eye out and be sure to douse the small jumping fires where you can!

It will double the amount of heads you can connect essentially great info.
For instance u can run drip tubing 500 ft in one line. With a tee connected in on itself in a big circle you can run 1000ft of it. Heads are different then drip tubing or netafim is what we use in idaho but the concept of water flow/pressure is the same
Thanks for your Service, ad you have Great Friends who rely heavily on your Knowlage!
Good luck!!! And as for the sprinklers, I tried running those pass through sprinklers. Two sprinklers were all I could run with 3/4" hose. And 5/8" hoses wouldn't run them.
Bless your heart for helping others right now in their time of need.
I am also in Oregon and the devastation is tremendous.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Michael here in Florida, a lineman was killed after someone hooked generator up to their house. He was a good man and a friend of many. Thank you for mentioning that!
you sir.. are an absolute hero.. i salute you from Finland... you have all my respect.
Keep posting video if you can. Stay safe. Love seeing the front line coverage of the fires.
Praying for you all Cody. You are awesome. God uses you as His conduit. So many are so grateful for you. Stay safe, you and yours.
Understanding what you are doing is a must
Prayers to you, and all working those fires.
Better to stay safe and save peoples home then to do videos for us. I am very grateful for the videos because my parents live in salem and us in bend. The updates do help a lot. Thank you.
someone i know lost there home and there parents home to the fire thank you for helping people who cant do it them selfs
Just a thought, but it may not be practical. What about running the hose all the way around and back to the faucet, and "tee" into it so you have a more even pressure to the sprinklers? I imagine the 4th sprinkler on the straight run of hose doesn't put out a lot.
Wow. You're up early.
Stay safe out there God Bless you. Prayers for all dealing with these Wildland fires
Thank God for your smart thinking to help save her house and barn and property. God be with you and protect you and keep you all safe.
Amen!!!
People helping each other, God bless. Just remember, if you can smell smoke, then little particles is going into your lungs. Please be safe. Thanks for the information
I have relatives in the area. Praying for you and them.
GOD BLESS YOU AND EVERYONE CODY! PRAYING FOR YOU ALL 🙏
Thank you.🙏 for you and all persons whom you are trying to help.
I just want to say your such a good person you seem to help just about anyone who needs it, a lot of respect from me man/ it’s hard to find genuine good people like you
You can call me a safety sally if you want but I’ve pulled enough people out of wrecks to always wear a seat belt. You’re definitely one of life’s heroes Cody but you’re not invincible! Keeping all of you battling those wildfires in our prayers, stay safe.
God Bless you your family and to all involved pretty rough I have to say I have even learned a couple things that would be handy to know in a time of need such as forest fires etc
You’re a great friend Cody! 👍🏻🇺🇸
You’re heck of neighbor Cody! You got prayers coming from Oklahoma
Cody is here apologizing to us for not pumping enough video out for us while he is day in, day out volunteer fire fighting for other people across the state. What a guy! Prayers for your safety!
My thoughts and prayers are with you, and thanks for doing this wonderful service. I've had a lot of friends, family and neighbors devastated by the Almeda fire in Jackson county. God bless.
Thanks for keeping up updated. Stay safe.
I appreciate the mention of backfeed. Good looking out buddy.
With you in spirit mate. Went through all this earlier this year in Australia. Understand what you’re going through
bless you man ....somebody who knows how to get things done
Prayers from the East Coast. Please stay as safe as you possibly can under the circumstances.
Well done @Wranglerstar & friends. Thank you for doing your best in helping & trying to keep everyone & everything safe. You keep safe too out there.✌🦺⛑🚒🧯🔥💧💖💜🙏

I’m freaking out... update please... praying for you all ...
You are truly a hero Mr. W.
Continued Prayers 📖🙏🇺🇸
Good luck to all of you from Italy! Stay safe, use your head.
Be safe and good luck prayers go out to everyone dealing with the fires.
I hope everyone is ok, best wishes from Sweden.
You mentioned the forest service. What do they wrap in reflective material? The buildings?
You're amazing for what you're doing! Best of luck to you. Be safe!
I’ve never seen fires like this and so close to our city. Listening to the scanner feeling a bit helpless. The county firefighters are battling with everything they’ve got. Good luck to you and the people impacted.
Praying , I am in NC but my son lives close to Gresham Or. Yall be safe..
The winds have slowed down alot and cooler night will help. We got some rain coming by next week. Air quality will be bad tho.
We are out in Corbett, had to deal with the Eagle creek fire a couple years ago. This is way smokier than that one was because these fires are surrounding everyone in the county. These little terrorist starting the fires better get thrown in Federal prison! They have caught several , local sheriff in Sandy is looking for people who attempted to start another fire on Judd Rd in Eagle Creek, so the fires would for sure merge! I have friends sitting all along that road standing guard, armed! Most of these are Arson , why the news won’t talk about it is beyond me!
Stay safe cody. god bless
