    I think this product is one of those things you have to see it live to be able to appreciate. I remember having a 720p projector and even though the resolution was rubbish and used it against a white wall, the sheer scale of the projected screen always made up for it, so I can only imagine the leap to a thing like this one.

    I wish I could agree with the quality of VIVIDSTORM. I purchased one of their drop down ALR 100” screens. Had to return it 3 times. Twice for quality issues with screen not being capable of being completely flat. I could also detect the seams on the ALR screens where the screen was put together. These screens are made in sections and are not one complete piece of material. The seams on this screen are approximately 1 foot wide and with 100” screen there will be usually 5-6 seams. With these types of projectors (ultra short throw) the screen must be completely flat or the image will be distorted. ALR also doesn’t work from side angles only from vertical ambient light. I was using a Optoma P2 projector which is considered one of the best UST projectors. I would not recommend this brand of of screen. Also VIVIDSTORM does not recommend projecting all the way to the side of the screen(started directly in manual), so a 100” screen will typically only display between 92”- 95”. Just my opinion, check all options before selecting this brand.

    On their website they have short throw and long throw versions of the screens. This may explain why, at least while watching this with TH-cam's 'mechanisms', the colour looked a lot better with your long throw projector than it did with the short throw. It seems it should only have been tested in that scenario if the one you have is one of the long throw ones.

    • @GeekStreet
      @GeekStreet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ultra short throw projector was a budget projector but the long one was a higher spec with better brightness level hence the difference. This is the long throw projector i used

    In terms of sim racing I think this projector is too big. The reason I say that is FOV is off by a lot. I use a 49 inch that’s about 3 inches away from my steering wheel. Not quite 1:1 scale with perfect fov but pretty close. Field of view is often overlooked but plays one of the biggest parts in how well you drive in sim racing. Aside that pretty cool projector

    • @00Clive00

      Yeah I agree, I have a 48" LG C1 Oled and have only managed to set it up a few times with my SIM rig and it feels just right, I always race in VR as scale is obviously perfect, can't beat the immersion you gain in VR my opinion.

  • @cptairwolf
    @cptairwolf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Honestly large format 4k TVs are so cheap now that projections (even ALR screens) just aren't worth it anymore. The contrast ratio of a good HDR set with full array backlighting puts a projector to shame. This could be useful if you live in a small space and don't always want a TV in the way I suppose. Otherwise you're better off just buying a decent quality 75" TV set.

    • @ty194
      @ty194 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This guy was projecting a 100" display and you're saying to go purchase a smaller TV. At least be honest with your comparison.

    • @masterkc
      @masterkc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. TV's have definitely caught up to screen size and you get alot of extra options built in. It's common to see 75-85 inch in people's homes now. I'm still happy with my 50inch plasma TV so, I imagine having a 80inch 4k TV would be insane.

    • @jasonjoyce7835
      @jasonjoyce7835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ty194 Exactly. Some people don't understand the difference between a 75" and 100" display. Or if you want to go nuts, these go up to 120" for much, much cheaper than a comparable TV.

    • @johndoe7109

      This comment is bang on, you could buy an 83” LG OLED which has better display qualities and faster input lag and much better frame rates. Contrast can’t be match from a OLED, no projector will ever display true black. ALR screens are not cheap, neither is a good UST projector. Do the math, check the quality, make your own decision. Personal preference plays a huge part in how people like their displays.
