  • This is the 2nd video in the ongoing series on the complete teardown, rebuild, and transmission repair on a 2006 Vulcan 900(B). The audio is a bit rough until about 12 minutes in where I switch to a better camera source. Enjoy - contact me with any questions...

Tom, I just want to say what a blessing this video is. Need to replace my piston rings and you just saved me thousands in my area. Now I just have to ask around about how to make sure the rings have the right gap 🤣

I'm glad this was of a help to you - I was looking for some encouragement to do mine and not finding any decided to make this! Posting part 5 tonight. As far as the ring gap I'll be doing that as well on re-assembly, if yours isn't done by then mine may be!

Would it he possible to pull the front cylinder valve assembly off by itself without taking out motor? Need to drill out and re Thread one of the valve covers holes

Appreciate the video big time! In the predicament currently where I’ve just done a valve shim inspection, all well within tolerance, however it seems my rear valves continue to make excessive noise. Plenty of oil reaching top end. I’m contemplating potentially having to replace that rear camshaft. May be some premature wear present even though the bike only has just over 15K miles. Any chance you’ll make a video showing re-install of the cams and rocker arms? The rear cylinder camshaft tensioner bolt is in such an odd location. Was that difficult to remove/reinstall? Any luck torquing it to spec? Doesn’t seem possible to get any type of socket on it. Thank you for your time!

Jeremy - due to my job it's taking me forever to get this rebuild done but I am getting it done and I will post every possible step with as great a detail as I can think of. I am trying to remember from the disassembly - it might be in the teardown video - but I think I used my 1/4 drive to get in there on that bolt.

Nice to see a tear down video by someone that cool, calm, and collected. I've got an 09 900 classic. Love it. So im curious to know. What product would you recommend adding to gas to help clean injectors and of course pistons? I would trust your input very much. And one other thing, you mentioned when looking at piston, "looks like may be running a little rich." How would you fix that problem? I have fuel injection. And how does one know if a bike is running lean or rich?

Use a regular gasoline product like STP or similar. The fuel and compression ratios are the same as is the injectors so a regular gas treatment should be fine. Just be sure to measure out about 1/4 of the bottle since a full bottle treats usually ~21 gallons and your average MC tank is about 5 gallons.... a little extra won't hurt but I always measure mine out.

The transmission wasn't shifting above 1st gear. Found a destroyed washer next to 4th gear that was crumbled and broken down by the oil screen.

Sorry Jena - just seeing that i did not respond quickly enough! Mainly because I have very little time to devote to the process and no real camera besides my smartphone! But I am coming up on some major reassembly videos this fall.
