It's NOT night and day. And this is the best thing I've learned regarding audio production: pros don't take a bad sound and sculpt it until it sounds great. They take a pretty good sound and make it sound great. What's the thing then? Always try to capture the best audio that you can, in this case the guitar tone. Use your time to dial in a good sounding guitar tone and then make it even better with your mixing skills.

I just got this plugin (Neural DSP) JP; I am so impressed with it to Start with.. The most important thing I have found is the tail of a sustain doesn't crackle as soon as with other guitar modelers.. THIS IS A Fantastic tutorial on how to EQ the guitar track in the main mix.. one tip I found, and I don't think many know if.. but when you do the final mix, switch it to mono, and make sure your muddiness is gone as well; you don't always notice this when that full mix muddiness when it is in a stereo spread.. try it, it might change the way you do the final mix.. just a thought..

I’ve found that one pro Q 2 gets the entire job done for me with these plugins, the source tones are pretty fucking good already
Really like that that high shelf did though I may need to look into that instead of doing a resonant low pass with pro Q 2
Congrats for your channel!!In best five channels for me. A question, when I use before Parallax a gain staging plugin (hornet vu meter mk4) I get a little different sound, a week sound I could tell. This is not happening when I use the gain staging plugin before overloud th-u for example!!!Can you check it and say why is this happening?

Number one: What measures do you use to conclude that a frequency is annoying or rumbling?
Second question: what reference do you use to cut or boost a frequency so you can say "this is how it should sound"?

Yo i know this question isn't to me but i think i can help out a little
Generally I'd say the measure you'd use would be all the instrumentation surrounding whatever you're EQing, you want everything to interact in a way where each instrument's most important frequencies aren't being swamped. For example when your drums feel like they lose a heap of quality once your guitar and bass are on top of them, that's where reductive EQ comes in to allow breathing space for each of the individual elements. A good way to figure out what frequency might need reducing is to listen to your instrument solo'd and listen for harmonics that are grating on the ear, you then take your thin EQ band and crank it up to match the harmonic that you can hear, and reduce it accordingly. This sorta answers all the questions in one, I think. The goal is to make the mix clear as possible, in summary.

I buyed Fortin Nameless and this awsome! But my di-track have so many resonainse, so first of all i put eq q3 before the amp and must to do many cuts! Your di-track sounds cleaner without any resoinance. I have good quality chain, esp eclipse with active emg, very good cable, di-box, apollo twin and seems to me its sound not so good - too oversaturated with harmonics and resonances. The guitar is well-built, good strings and muffled near the neck.

Ok. Silly question. Does this apply to amp sim? I run my guitar through an Hd500x into my DAW. Does that matter?
Yes, it applies to all amp Sims really. You want to try and achieve the best tone you can get going in and then fine tune it with an eq especially cutting out those harsh highs and subby lows. You may not hear a huge difference in the tone but cutting out the subby low leaves room for drums and bass to fill out the mix more. Also, I used to use my HD500x for recording and always EQd it.
A good amp sim is supposed to... simulate what a real amp sounds like. Thus why it's called an amp sim. So the final result should be the same, regardless of analog or digital gear. In the end, if the sound is the same, the mixing is the same because you're basically working with the same material, it's just the way you ended up there different.
Can someone confirm for me whether or not Archetype Nolly or Parallax work in GarageBand? It’s telling me that the license manager (iLok) used to authorize these plugins is not running, which it is
Hey! I just ask myself for the mixing of the guitar tracks. Is it better to do the EQ for each guitar track separately or one EQ for all the tracks together? Thanks for those who can help me
I think grouping them is better. So main rhythms all eq'd together then grouping guitar melodies and eq them together so on so forth.

Imagine eqing very little resonance but ignoring the giant digusting build at 800hz. It was probably not big enough on the screen lol.

Hi. My guitar sound always feels very hursh when i use neural dsp plugins. Tooooo much high frequencies every time. What plugin did you use and what preset?
Try using a 3rd party impulse response instead of the stock ones in neural.

Most likely yes. I’m a beginner as well but from what I understand so far, you want everything to peak well below 0 on your board. Some people have told me to shoot for -6 db peaks, and others -10db which is what I’ve been going for. It gives you a lot more headroom in your mix, and you can always boost a weak signal but it’s much harder to cut one that is too loud.
Your mix shouldn’t sound “loud” right out the gate, that’s what mastering is for.

I honestly thought he was doing these adjustments with the plug in bypassed until I heard a little sweep in the high end. I swear I couldn't hear anything else happening, and my ears are pretty good!

You'd consider getting a refference headphone/speakers. IF you're on your gaming headphones, or any headphone/speaker that are not meant for mix&mastering, you wouldn't hear the differences.
So would you say apprach just like a lead vocal?
Explain to your commentary, that as long as you have a few cascaded gain stages and a 31 band eq, you can produce almost every guitar amp tone on the market....
As a noob Iv used the sweeping eq technique until a very useful video from Warren Huarrt in which he explains how garbage the technique is. Then I realised I can find so much harsh sounding stuff by boosting that it’s pointless.
yes, it wouldn't make sense to just look for stuff that sounds bad when boosted, like the saying goes 'everything's ugly up close'! I think the idea is more to zone in on the problem frequencies you're hearing even before you boost. Boosting just puts a microscope on it and then you go' yeah that's that weird tone I was hearing'. I use it on snare drums all the time... there's a weird ring, I don't have perfect pitch so I don't immediately think "man that 450hz hum ain't working for me", but by boosting and sweeping I can find that resonance and can back it off as needed.

Is it bad that I actually prefer the bypassed tone because you cut too much bass and I love bassy tones? 😂
I also noticed I don`t like most modern metal tones, i like when there are strong low mids, but it also makes guitars boxy so it`s hard to find a balance in a mix,

Great Video clip! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Rozardner Stopping Sounds Reality (probably on Google)? It is a good exclusive guide for transforming you into A guitar legend without the normal expense. Ive heard some decent things about it and my m8 after many years got great results with it.
There is totally no difference between active and bypass mod on the ssl dude ^^ It's nice to care about details, but the SSL was saddly useless on this one. (exept the gain out adjusting of the EQ). A human ear can't really hearing a difference of 2db on a frequency when everything is turn on in the mix. After all it's just a question of taste, that's also my job and i see a lot on people on TH-cam making this mistake of "i can't hear the difference between this two mods, but it looks cool to do it and i saw lot of people did it". If a plug in don't change anything, it doesn't have to be here. Even if "everybody" use it for mixing guitars.
Why do you think humans can't hear a 2db difference of eq in a Mix? When I eq my guitars I definitely hear a difference in (for example) a 2db cut or boost at 1kHz. Even if I close my eyes, turn the band on and off a couple of times so I don't know if it's on or off anymore and then listen.

Yeah take the steepest bell and boost 9 dB, everything will sound ridiculous, you also left some nasty mids at 700Hz why? I wonder how 1200 people liked this and only 33 disliked, you have some nice acoustics but awful speakers
This is wrong. This is not how you mix a guitar.
Especially searching for whistling notes part is wrong.
- It is a common wrong mixing tip. When you boost a specific high frequency that high, of course, it is going to resonate in a bad way. However, nobody is going to choose and boost that frequency when they are listening to our music. Basically, what he did was he created a problem that wasn't there and he cut down those frequencies thinking they were problematic :) Also, he was only listening to a riff. What if my guitar track is not just one riff. He cut down some frequencies but when the guitar is going to play something other then the riff those frequencies will be cut for no reason at all.
- Cutting unwanted lows and turning down the bass rumble part is correct and it is applied for pretty much the same way for every other instrument too.
- Boosting the 2000-3000k part is also kind of wrong. If we talking about the guitar. First of all, you have to like the sound that coming out from your amp. So, you should give a character to the sound on your amp in the first step. Because we really don't want to mess around with it on post-production. It is not necessary and it will take away your amps beautiful sound. Just a notch of boost is okay. But is not every time on the 2000k-3000k area, you have to choose the frequency accordingly to the guitar, pickups, amp, mic.
- What you should do is;
Get a great sound from your amp. Record it with good mics.
Cut unwanted lows and bass rumble.
No need for hunting resonant frequencies.
Just a little boost for the sweet spot.
That's it. That's how they did it in the golden age of rock music(analog).
I agree. This tutorial is nonsense. Bell filter is too high. First, you can use eq, when you HEAR some problems. Not before;)
A spectrum analiser like SPAN also can show why not to cut too much. By the way- it makes phase problems
