The fact they include a native application to undervolt deserves massive praise. Fantastic video mate, I'll be sending this to every person who asks me what budget laptop they should buy.
I see in my local shop different specs from yours, for USD 730: Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS Memory: 8 GB SO-DIMM DDR5-5600 Graphics: RTX 3050 6GB GDDR6 Boost Clock. Is this acceptable for the price or are they short changing me in terms of the lower processor/graphics card? What would you change? Thanks so much.
Your video was the only one out of the major tech channels that actualy reviewed this laptop. After looking up many different models, I decided to settle on LOQ 15i with i7 13620H and rtx 4060, my god this was one of the best choices I ever made. I literally use it everyday with 4 game engines, 3 DAWs, and lots of high-end modeling software (without even counting all kinds of popular games XD); no matter what I threw at it, the LOQ handled it really well!
I was unlucky last year cause I got an older Legion 5 model then just a few days after my unit was on transit/being shipped the LOQ devices hit the market. I could've got an equally good device while saving some money. Glad you like yours though. I must say I prefer the previous models to this year's. Even though Jarrod said the removal of the side vents didn't affect these lower end models I assume it may cause some issues on the ones with more powerful internals.
Aside from downgrading the screen peak brightness by 50 nits and downgrading all USB-A to 3.2 gen 1 (from 3.2 gen 2 in last year's LOQ that 2 out of the 3 USB-A ports it had), by biggest gripe with this updated version is that the memory speeds were downgraded on all versions with intel CPUs except the 14th gen one. (From 5200 to 4800)
I was expecting i7 14700hx with 4060 . Usually you go for the higher varient not the low ends. Hope you do a review of the maxed version with i7 14700hx and 4060
Good to see the FHD 144 Hz screens have decent colour accuracy compared to last year's LOQ 15/16 but response rate times definitely leave something to be desired and maximum brightness is 50 nits less than the equivalent panel from last years LOQ 15/16.
Still my dream to one day be able to buy last year's LOQ 15. Currently working part time while doing my thesis just so maybe I can afford it by next year...I hope.. They really outdid themselves with their budget gaming laptop.
i just picked up an open box 2023 version with the 3050 for $540(tax included), feel like it’s not a bad deal at that price. haven’t fiddled with it yet but the brightness is very good. a bit heavy but that ok. could realistically get a better laptop for a bit more i think but needed something now
Can confirm the battery drain isn't a new issue - I have a 2023 LOQ with the same 3050/charger combination and in some less optimized games the battery drains significantly, even faster than in this video. I'm still happy with the laptop overall though, no other issues.
@@lovemfsn it won't last much but if you lower the brightness to 30% and only use intergarted graphics ( make this change from bios ) vantage doesn't completely shuts the dgpu , then next in power plan switch to best power efficiency Then you will get around in the vicinity of 2 hours
@@JohnST0NES thanks, so are you confirming that it’s normal for it to not last an hour? just weird, most of the reviews I see lasted for at least 3 hours. I’m thinking my device might be faulty.
@@lovemfsn nah it should definitely last longer than an hour. try using the "hybrid-auto" or "hybrid-igpu" setting in vantage to make sure your graphics is actually turning off.
It looks like Lenovo expect worsening of market conditions (find it difficult to ship laptops) and are downgrading their laptops across all their line-ups. This makes me think that the best option is to get something discounted as they trying to clear the 2023 models in Feb and March. Like the Legion Pro 5i 4060 that Jarred had often on his deals selection from the US or a Legion Slim 5 4060 that can be found at a good price here in Europe.
I am thinking ti get the legion pro 5i 4060, so are you getting any discount ? As you said they are trying to clear the stuff so any discounts or anything any coupons ?
@@sufiyanxstark I was thinking about the same model. I'm in Europe, but my best option is to get it from B&H Video in the US, the offer that Jarrod had in his deals - $1250, with shipping and VAT this will be 1450 euro for me. The same model in my country in Europe is $1800 and up 🤦♂ My next best option is Legion Slim 4060, Ryz 5, 16Gb, 512 SSD, no OS for 1200 euro from a local seller, but this has lower spec in every area. I'm tempted to wait another month or two for more aggressive clearing offers, but might miss these.
I just bought my own Loq with i5 13450hx and rtx 4050 the other day and so far I'm really happy. It was through your channel that I found and decided I will get this laptop vs my other choices. Thanks for your review coz it really helped!
@@Muhammad_Rifat10 I did encounter the motherboard issue. It took a month to get replaced under warranty. Now, so far so good. But they say that it might fail again. It's a growing issue with intel hx 2024 loqs
@@The_Real_Kitsunengl, this gaming laptop is gonna be my first gaming laptop too, also I just ordered ryzen 7 with rtx 4060. Hopefully, it will doing well😊last thing, your comment is really make me feel relieve about no issue.
The 2023 version with 4050/4060 was a blast. Has a ddr5-5600 as well with R7-7840H. With all mentioned above, I dont see much of the point to 2024 version. The changes are too insignificant.
Well, yeah. That I did. But I wrote that, because I bought a 2023 version around half a year ago with specs mentioned above (also with 2560x1440 screen) and was happy with it till now)
Not good. Intel pulling back on them. I can barely find a laptop with an Arc GPU, this is the only model laptop I can find with a 530m or greater GPU. If I find one with an Arc GPU it's a non gaming laptop with a 370m or lower. I'm still sad cause I was trying to ride with Intel to break up the amd Nvidia monopoly. My current laptop I dropped has a 370m and after 20 mins on rocket league it started throttling.
Hello Jarrod I’m looking to buy this exact laptop but Im not sure if I should wait and see if there’s any deals on Black Friday or are have there not been allot of sales on this model Should I just purchase it today ? Thank you for your Help
It would be great if you could keep including battery drain in your reviews. I ended up returning my Slim 5i 2023 because the battery would fully drain while gaming in about 5 hours.
@@SweetMelaninn I have to respect Lenovo for at least allowing battery drain. On my previous ASUS TUF, if the battery started draining, the CPU would be throttled to 25 W, causing it to run at 2.4 Ghz (only half its rated speed). At least Lenovo gives you the option to maintain performance even if the charger can't supply enough power. And I got a Legion 5i Pro 2023 after returning the Slim which doesn't generally have any issues with battery drain. It's so much better than the TUF in every way (apart from battery life), so I'm definitely sticking with Legion in the future.
Foam inserts to better control airflow inside looks interesting, I wonder if it could be worth retrofitting something similar on older laptops as a DIY modification 🤔
Hello Jarrod, I love your content, it's really helpful, I want to get a new laptop and I am between 2 options : Legion 5 (2022) 3060(140w) i7 12700h battery 80w or Loq 15 (2023) 4060(115w) i5 13500H battery 60w , (same SSD and ram) , which one would you recommend? They are around the same price
why do they not include other legion laptop (gen 8 and maybe 7) with the lenovo vantage update to "switch to custom mode with fn Q"... with a simple update
Anyone with the laptop is the battery drain actually a issue when playing the average game on quiet/balance and will it run out after many hours? Ideally want to know about the 4050/4060 model since they have higher power draw.
@@animesh_M so hows the thermals and is 4050 good for gaming? just ordered loq 2023 version 4050 i713620h will get delivered by tomorrow so just asking how the GPU is
Well GPU performance is exactly what you see in most TH-cam videos. CPU performance is similar to 13500h or 13500hx and thermals are on the average side. I mean gpu temps are fine but CPU touches 80 - 90 on peak loads and 95 on stress test. But when I set the fans speed on max manually cpu goes to 85 max on heavy workloads.
I have a 4050 from last year's model which works great as a work laptop. I liked the ledge they had on the back of the laptop so that's a shame, but otherwise looks pretty solid!
I work in IT and I can confirm that Lenovo Legion laptops with battery drain during use on AC power will damage the battery over time. Im the RMA guy at my work place.
Ended up suckering up and getting my first rig. Upgraded my actual desktop 3 months ago and building a house in another state on some land in Nh. Wanted something to take some games on the go like my F1 24 and some hades 2 early access etc. Ended up with a Ryzen 7000 series 16 gigs of ddr5 5600 and rtx 4050 for 749.99. Let’s just say gets the job done more than enough. And to have my plex and a hdmi to use or the wife’s brothers house we stay at when we work on the house out the city. Nice to have a plex server on the go too running off the synology too
Interestingly enough I bought my LOQ with a 7640HS and RTX 4050 for around $700 CAD taxes in. Which would be about $520 USD on Black Friday. This seems a bit expensive for what amounts to a chassis refresh. This years version looks to be more cost saving than anything, while pushing out product. Just having an RTX 3050 in there you probably won't see these flying off shelves.
Finally the review showed up.. was waiting patiently the whole week.. indeed, a splendid review.. just a quick question.. will there be a LOQ 16 version this year? I want to left the soon-to-be obsolete16:9 and migrate the more preferably choice 16:10 for my new laptop.. highly considering LOQ as it fits my budget perfectly.. hope you can help me answer.. many thanks
Bought myself the LOQ 15 15IAX9 from JB Hi-Fi for $1279-I paid $1199 price-matched with The Good Guys, which is incidently owned by JB. Mine has the Intel Core i5-12450HX processor, 24GB RAM, 1TB Solidigm NVMe SSD and RTX2050 GPU. My LCD panel is made by CSOT. It's awesome!
What should I look for in consistency when it comes to gaming laptops with the spec differences, since everything is always upgrading every year? Any recommendations?
the 100+ minutes of difference in youtube playback is interesting this gen of gpu/cpu's i hope they can see the gaming numbers tick up and get the youtube hours closer to where they used to be.
Those lack of ports on the left, headphone jack on right, and those exhausts does not boost my confidence, neither is the black bar abyss down the screen, the keyboard layout looks like a cheap outdated productivity laptop, RGB is dysmal as usual, weird CPU GPU config. If this is more expensive than the helios 300 3060, or any midrange 2022 3060 variant, this LoQ is a robbery 😂. Is this some kind of 3D chess from lenovo to make their Legion 5 more appealing or something 😅
The big down for someone who's searching for multi purpose laptop when eyeing the laptop gaming, most of the screen is 16:9, please change to 16:10 ratio, manufacturers still don't change this in 2024
Hey bro, I am planning to upgrade from my potato pc to the Lenovo LOQ (specs: i7 13620H, RTX 4060 and 16 GB ram). I have a few questions I wanted to ask about the laptop. 1) How and why is the price of such a high end laptop this low? This just seems too good to be true. Other laptops with the similar specs are way costlier than this one. 2) Will my purchase be worth my money? I am a student and I am planning on buying the laptop for gaming as well as day to day use. Other TH-cam reviews about the laptop mention that the build quality is not the best as the keyboard has a little bit of flex. The screen also wobbles a lot. 3) What is the exact battery backup of this laptop? I don’t seem to be getting an exact answer to this question as there are many different sources claiming it to be different. 4) Which laptop should I choose? I have 2 options for my laptop: a MacBook or a Lenovo. I personally think that a windows laptop is better than a Mac. What would be your opinion on this? 5) Will this laptop be worth it to buy in 2024? Please let me know about these questions ASAP.
Finally I get rid my old Asus ROG with GTX 950M which accompany me for 7 years and get that LOQ with 3050 6 Gb, but with 12th gen CPU. Great laptop for its price point 😁
There's a version which has 14700hx + RTX 4060 (115W TGP) But it has only 170 watt charger supplied. This is worrying me, will there be any issues.. i don't know why lenovo is not giving 230 watt charger for atleast that model

Hi Jarrod, So in my region the last gen 4060 LOQ shipped with a 170 watt charger unlike other regions which got a 230 watt one. Could you please run a benchmark or two on your 4060 Loq 16 with the charger which you got with the 3050 LOQ and see if there are any downsides of using a 170 watt charger? And if I were to try someone's high wattage legion charger on the Loq would it be unsafe? We've got used to interchangeable chargers with type c but with laptop chargers It's always scary to use something that didn't come with the laptop.
I've just ordered the loq 15(2024) i5-12450hx + rtx3050 (6gb).I've read the problem on Reddit and most of them are from India.I don't know It's defects especially in India or what.I'll keep updating if u want❤ (got it at 720$ btw)

Got the Lenovo LOQ 15 Ryzen 7 7840HS yesterday for $699.99. Lenovo said it can take up to 32gb of RAM. But I read on some forums that it can work with 64gb. I got 2 32gb 4800MHz in there and it works fine. So, I have 64gb of RAM. I also added a 2TB NVME SSD to the 512gb that comes with the laptop (it has 2 slots). Nice deal from Best Buy. The best laptop for the money.
Do you also have ghosting problems, especially when you move the windows window in "Settings" (white text that leaves a lot of blur) or does my computer have a problem?
@Jarrod - would you say the removal of side vents kind of also helps mitigate fan noise since all the noise is shooting out the rear? I think Lenovo is doing these 2024 models good with the removal of the side vents.. like you said, it's super nice to not have hot air blowing on your hands.
@@Biotechy So was I. It had everything but this motherboard issue stopped me and all other options with same price have 45% NTSC screen. I'm a creator wanted a 100% screen
@@Abra311 Nope, Hp victus and Nitro V are alternatives but both have 45% Srgb, if you want just gaming then no problem but for content creation then you need a 100srgb monitors, other solution is to buy external monitor. Also from some research I've found out that 13 and 14 gen HX have most problem, 12 gen is less prone to motherboard failure and it mostly coming in Indian variant of LOQ, but still there are some risk, also if available you can get extended 3 years warranty.
It’s probably the best bang for buck, but I find the thermals in my 2023 version to be poor, so I got an extra cooling pad, but I do like it to this day.
i found you yesterday whilst doing some research on what laptop i am going to purchase this week (msi Vector gp68HX 13VI-236AU as pretty much all other brands aren't sold here in Perth and are mail order only :(, we only have two really high end computer shops, PLE and Austin that stock laptops above 3 thousand dollars and they only have rog or msi) one of the factors in my decision was tech support. as getting gear from online stores or stores based over east means if they break like an MSI i owned previously to get it fixed i had to courier it back to Sydney to be repaired then sent back, so at least a week and a half with out the laptop if they can fix it. Admittedly this is an issue that is pretty much only applicable to Perth due to its remoteness and isolation. so was a factor in my decision.
the 2023 Loq can go up with an i7-13700 / R7 7840HS paired with a 4060 a display of a 165hz, QHD. Lenovo found out that people can just get the 2023 LOQ with thesame performance as their Legion slim 5 lmfao so they're haphazardly downgrading everything on the LOQ Series. Thats how you know how good the 2023 LOQ is.
I have some questions about the differences between two types of laptops: 15IRX9 with i5-13450HX and RTX 4050, and 15IAX9 with i5-12450HX and RTX 4050. Is there a significant difference in performance? Thank you.
I am really having difficulties deciding between the 2023 vs 2024 version. Any pros and cons for each model? Assuming the specs are the same (e.g. 13500H vs 13450HX and both RTX 4060). Thermals are a huge point for me, as well as display. Thanks for all input and advice out there 🎉
I am going to buy 13450HX + RTX 4050 But i have recently hearing issues about motherboard dead and Battery drian problem The battery drain is fixed with 230W charger and limiting the power levels But the HX CPU are frying the motherboards out I am afraid should i buy it or not ?
i got that specific spec, its awesome,i love the laptop, but im from Canada , we dont have complaint about dead motherboard in north america, i think lenovo sell cheap mobo to Asian countries to cut cost. We have consumer protection run by government if lenovo sell junk that dies after few days, they will be banned, acer got more complaint here compared to lenovo. to be honest i understand if you are afraid to buy lenovo if you`re from Asia right now.
If you can catch one on sale (currently the AMD version is $700 at bestbuy) it can be a good budget gaming laptop (I actually bought one for photo editing as I mainly needed a dedicated graphics card and preferably a RTX 3050 or 4050 at minimum so this worked out for me. I wouldn't necessarily call this laptop mid-range though, but more on the budget side, but probably able to handle many games regardless. It's just puzzling why they only ship them with 8GB of RAM (easy fix obviously by getting a memory kit). (I should note that the one I got may be the 2023 version though).
Am I crazy/the only one who would like for ideapad gaming to return? I'm not a huge fan of the gamer aesthetic, so I wish they came back with a sleek and sober design with current gen parts and at a budget price point.
What is the relevance of purchasing Legion 5 Slim 7640+4060 FHD? The difference from a similar LOQ is close to $50. Is this slim worthy of attention in 2024? When should we expect the price to drop?
7:45 I have this loq with i5 13450hx / RTX 4050 variant, it has a bad battery drain when gaming on balanced and performance mode *while plugged in*. I have to basically reduce the CPU wattage to only 55w in custom mode to make it not draining the battery while gaming. Me and other loq users in the forum are trying our best to get something from lenovo, since this defect really make the battery take an extra beating in a long run and might not a good choice for user that plan to use it for more than 2 years of heavy usage.
Just turn on battery level protection in BIOS if you concern. But its no problem, my old Legion 5 have battery drain in some games but not in other games. After few years now, battery still in good condition.
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6, a rather popular laptop, even here in Romania. it has the RTX 3050 GPU, but the small 135w charger it came with cannot give it enough power to run games for a very long time, as the battery drains slowly. I got a 170w charger that does better, but the 230W would be perfect for it

New Lenovo LOQ 15 IRX9. i7 13650HX,Rtx 4050,16gb ddr5 4800mhz? full hd 144hz display, how good is it? It's not the price that counts, but the machine itself.
That battery drop protection sounds just like Dell's hybrid power, will limit GPU to just 30W when there's not enough power or battery is dead. It's a little bit annoying on Dell though because that means you cannot game on AC only when your battery is dead lol.
I had an Asus tuf and it would throttle the CPU down from 65 W to 25 W the instant the battery dropped to 99%, making many games unplayable. I wish manufacturers could just include power bricks that can actually supply the laptop with enough power under load.
@@matthiascorner6939 well its mostly just preferences, but last years model had better screen brightness, better port placements and you can find good spec configs for some very good prices. However, this years model does have better colour accuracy, if that matters to you.

Nice review. But call me crazy, but I picked up an IdeaPad gaming 3 with a 7th gen ryzen 5 rtx 2050 8gv ram and 120 hz refresh rate. When testing my Anker 7 prime portable battery, the Lenovo loq only accepted 60 watts..... While the IdeaPad gaming 3 was 100watt, also the IdeaPad gaming had both the HDMI and type c port in back which makes more sense when connecting 2 displays.

I'm in Europe, but my best option is to get it from B&H Video in the US, the offer that Jarrod had in his deals - $1250, with shipping and VAT this will be 1450 euro for me. The same model in my country in Europe is $1800 and up 🤦♂
My next best option is Legion Slim 4060, Ryz 5, 16Gb, 512 SSD, no OS for 1200 euro from a local seller, but this has lower spec in every area.

Not good. Intel pulling back on them. I can barely find a laptop with an Arc GPU, this is the only model laptop I can find with a 530m or greater GPU. It would be great if you could keep including battery drain in your reviews. I ended up returning my Slim 5i 2023 because the battery would fully drain while gaming in about 5 hours.
I have the same and I can agree, but it's my first even gambling laptop so I can't even complain

4060 is better for games
why do they not include other legion laptop (gen 8 and maybe 7) with the lenovo vantage update to "switch to custom mode with fn Q"... with a simple update
For the same reason they don't allow LOQ to get 64GB RAM even if it supports it as an upgrade option. To keep their other Legion laptops alive

Could you please run a benchmark or two on your 4060 Loq 16 with the charger which you got with the 3050 LOQ and see if there are any downsides of using a 170 watt charger?

i found you yesterday whilst doing some research on what laptop i am going to purchase this week (msi Vector gp68HX 13VI-236AU as pretty much all other brands aren't sold here in Perth and are mail order only :(, we only have two really high end computer shops, PLE and Austin that stock laptops above 3 thousand dollars and they only have rog or msi) one of the factors in my decision was tech support. as getting gear from online stores or stores based over east means if they break like an MSI i owned previously to get it fixed i had to courier it back to Sydney to be repaired then sent back, so at least a week and a half with out the laptop if they can fix it. Admittedly this is an issue that is pretty much only applicable to Perth due to its remoteness and isolation. so was a factor in my decision.

So on the one hand, the ARC is slower - but on the other hand it consumes more power.

Would suggest the 8845 with 4060 if the performance of 8845 is equivalent or even slightly worse than 13650H
go with rtx 4060
I used to complain about Jarrod's lack of expression or tone change but now he's gone the opposite, flicking his around like a nutter. Feels like I'm watching Mrwhostheboss !
Is this good for video editing and live streaming...?
Yes very good
I wish there was a config with the grey keyboard, but with this cleaner backside design.
The only thing i like is that the new chassis and screen can go up to 180 °. Right now I don't see any reason to choose this laptop especially in my country where the last year version is significantly cheaper than this one
just a week ago I purchased LOQ 15 2023 model with i7 13620H and RTX 4060.
How is it bro
that's excellent for it's cost of Rs.90000 only if you can't get the AMD variant
@@makingtechfriendlyindia where do you get it for 90k man? Best deal i could find was ₹1 lakh 5k without offers on amazon for 4060 variant.
@@Premium2023oct pretty good for my 3d modelling, animation and rendering work. Also great at playing shooter games like CS2 and Valorant
Same
Please review Lenovo Loq 14th gen i7 14700hx rtx 4060❤❤
Nice review. But call me crazy, but I picked up an IdeaPad gaming 3 with a 7th gen ryzen 5 rtx 2050 8gv ram and 120 hz refresh rate. When testing my Anker 7 prime portable battery, the Lenovo loq only accepted 60 watts..... While the IdeaPad gaming 3 was 100watt, also the IdeaPad gaming had both the HDMI and type c port in back which makes more sense when connecting 2 displays. The IdeaPad gaming 3 2023 is an excellent choice with premium features
Hi Jarrod could you please recommend which laptop I should get between LOQ 15 12th Gen RTX 4050 OR HP Omen 16 13th Gen RTX 4050
I am getting very similar prices just slight more RAM in the LOQ
Lenovo LOQ 15 vs Lenovo Legion slim 5 for Gaming . Which is better and why , whith the same CPU & GPU.
Hi,
very good test video :)
Right now, in my country, the Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) with i5-13450HX and RTX 4060 is on sale for under 900€. I was doing some research on my own as I heard this config could have problems with thermals.
As this test is done with a 3050, i was wondering if someone already got the config with the 4060 and has some insides on that topic :).
Also, does the i5-13450HX bottlenecks the 4060 in any kind?
Thanks a lot in advance
I don't know if I should buy this one because of the screen response time. I've read it to be terrible. Comments on this?
Is it right that the motherboard is dying for some people
And if it is what's the reason?
I found one in Aussie for 1300AUD , Brand New with Ryzen 7 7840HS with an RTX 3050 and 16GB ram , 2024 build , I wonder if I should get it?
