Vinnie Moore "Free" transcription played at half speed with tabs and backing track

- This is my transcription of the legendary track from Vinnie Moore featured in the "guitar for the practicing musician" compilation way back many years ago.. It's an absolute beauty of A Mixolydian licks at blazing speed.. If you want to hear what the track sounds like at real speed and don't want to wait until I upload my attempt at full speed, just change the speed with the TH-cam settings.. I would like to personally thank Vinnie Moore for this inspiring piece of music.. It motivated me for years and kinda started the whole "I so wanna transcribe that!" thing.. Thanks Vinnie.. This could have been Moores Cliffs of Dover if it had somehow found its way onto radio.
Unfortunately, it was just a one-off track for a compilation record by a magazine. It wasn’t going to get any promotion beyond Guitar for the Practicing Musician putting ads for it up in their magazine.
Cliffs changed EJs life forever. Thats all it take: 1 hit song, and your whole life changes, and it’s then easier to sell your future works. And although Eric hasn’t hit it big again like with Cliffs, he has sold millions of records. He lives a comfortable life.
Meltdown (the song) received some radio play when it came out. It was right when Nirvana squashed hair metal (thank God). If Free had been on the Meltdown album, and they picked it as the first single, he may have wacked it out of the park.
Well, as you can imagine, it's one of my favourite track too.. And I don't mean Vinnie 's.. I mean one of my favourite tracks period. 😊

Nice job! This was the first time I ever heard VM, back when the compilation was first released, and instantly was hooked. I met Vinnie at a meet and greet a few years ago. I asked him if he'd ever bring this one back - he laughed a bit and said wow it's been a long time since I played that, and he noodled a bit of it for me. Was really cool to see.

Hi steph, loved your transcription of this most wonderful tune! I became somewhat obsessed by it when it came out many years ago. Back then there were no transcriptions of it available on the internet. Although I'm not a very good guitarist and and even worse transcriber I tried my best to transcribe it and posted my efforts onto Ultimate Guitar several years ago. You can't imagine how happy I am to see a 'real' guitarist put together a proper transcription of it. Thanks dude, I love it!
Thanks man, I guess you are part of the "chosen few" 😅 who understood the awesomeness of this tune when it was released in the "guitar for the practicing musician magazine compilation 😊👍.. Many great songs in the album but this piece is filled to the max with musicality and fretboard wizardry.. As soon as I heard the arpeggio part I was hooked and I felt enlightened.. It took me a considerable time to get this transcription out and I still can't quite pull it off at full speed (getting pretty close though 😉) but as you most probably know, it's the kind of track that keeps your smile up every time you get closer to play one of the awesome licks that constitue its rich interior.. @@StephGarridoDo you even know how hard I have been trying to find the accurate interpretation for so so so many years. When I first listened to it, I was blown away and instantly knew that it is gonna be stuck with me till the end. No doubt about it. But i was so determined to play it exactly the same. And so i set off looking for covers and tabs/ lesson and couldn't find any. Very few I found but not accurate though. I attempted till half, a lol more than half but i was stucked there due to time issues. And now that i found your video here man, it means so so much. Now, I know I have finally found what I am looking for. Hey man, this is a gem you dropped. Thanks

Hi Amos, I don't think this song is available anywhere else than on the TH-cam video I used to transcribe it. It's so weird because it is such a great track.

@@StephGarridoit’s a great idea. With other performed transcriptions, when you use the youtube slow down function, you lose some sound quality. Notes get marbled and garbled and slurred and the pitch loses accuracy when slowed down too much. The way you’re doing it is perfect.
