@@wingfoil_mallorca Releasing in a few days the new Spitfire range, odd name but yup. AXIS are on fire at the moment, always ahead of the game as well.
Just got the 1201 yesterday and tried it at Crissy Field, San Francisco in pretty light winds (12-14kt) on a Crazyshort Advance fuse and Skinny 365/55 tail wing. I weigh 68kg, and as of now I'm an intermediate rider with about 30 prone and 70 wing sessions over the last 2 seasons. I had to wait about a week to obtain my 1201, as each weekly shipment coming into Axis HQ here in Marin County would sell out within hours - this is a very hyped and anticipated wing! For comparison, my last 40+ sessions have been on a 999. In this session, I rode for about 30 min on my 999, and then switched only the 999 to the 1201, with everything else the same. It got up on foil super easily, and practically never stalled as long as I had some semblance of forward momentum (this was the best feature by far). The cost of staying aloft is lower proclivity to turning, and I got tossed off the board on my first few jibe attempts. I quickly learned to go a bit wider, and then things clicked into place. The biggest drawback by far is that it felt sooooo slow (Dave Eb below notes that it's 2mph slower than the 999, but the way that feels is extremely significant, as if I were towing a chunk of kelp). I’m thinking that it’s going to be great for downwinders (the original intent for the wing, as I understand it), since it stays up on foil and you don’t need to do such sharp turns when going down wind. It also may just take getting used to, and I'm going to keep working it as I continue to improve with foiling. I'm excited to try it with my prone board. If the 999 feels like a Ferrari (fast, responsive, controlled), this one feels like a Rolls Royce Phantom (heavy, powerful, resolute). Not that I've ever driven either one of these cars, but you known what I mean... Bottom line, it glides forever. And that's something to celebrate!
Thank you very much for dropping in and letting me, and all riders that reads the comments, know about your experiences with the 1201. Overall, a great experience. There is not much information out about riding the 1201 yet. Loved to hear about the good glide. We definitely want that! We all expected that the 1201 would be slower than the 999, of course. As a light wind, downwind, heavy guy's weapon, it does its job great. I'm excited, I got it today! Very nice. I appreciate this wing. I got into the water today, at the last minutes before the wind dropped, and I only got a few minutes up on foil, but I noticed good stuff. It was easy to get up on foil. We were talking about the ART wings this past winter, wondering where Axis would go with them or what to do after the ART series... Like ART V2. I think this is a very good step forward. Not only did we get a "1199-ish" wing that fills the gap between the 1099 and the 1050, we will also get a whole new line of front wings. And they bear a very good promise. Very excited to later on get onto one of the smaller ones in the ARTPRO series. Supposedly, very fast...as if the smaller ART wings are not...oh, my. Where will this all end...;-)
Can I ask you a favour? Would you be ok with recording a minute or a few with you phone (Preferably 4K) about your sensations with the 1201 and send it to me? My email: fekermark@gmail.com I am looking for rider input for my upcoming video(s)! Would be cool! 😃
Rode my 1201 for the first time the other day. Usually I'm winging on 999. Speed is about 2 mph slower than 999. Turns obviously took more effort, but didn't seem worse than 1099 (need to try back to back with 1099 to be sure). 1201 glide was unbelievable. I was getting 1/2 mile rides on weak 2-3 foot leftover wind swell.
Hi Dave, that’s great news. Thanks for sharing. The looong glide is a welcome feature. I would also think it would be big to turn around with. But as I watched Jeremy in the video, he turned really nice and tight with the 1201. So, expectations are high with this foil. Have you also tried any of the Skinnies?
Haven't tried the skinnies yet. I did get the 1201 out back to back with the 1099 today. Biggest takeaway was that the 1201 needs way less energy to keep pumping. 1201 seems much stiffer too. When going through chop, you can feel the 1099 flexing a bit, but the 1201 is solid. 1099 feels faster, but 1201 speed isn't bad. Average speed for 46 min session on 1201 was 13.0 mph in 10-14 knots of wind.
Good stuff man! I will do the same AB comparison with the 1201 against. 1099, 1050 and maybe even 1300. Interesting that it seems stiffer than the 1099, considering it’s 10cm wider. The pumping efficiency sounds absolutely fantastic. Yeah, it’s a great foil addition to the other foils. And then the rest of the ARTPRO wings will arrive in a month or so…oh my! 😊🤩

Hi, thank you! Yes I have ridden the 1201 quite a lot. I have also three different skinnies rear wings I have tried. So there have been a lot of testing. Video is in the making and will be out soon. Stay tuned! 😄😄🤩
Hi Sander, thank you, and I agree. It will be very interesting. I’ll be out in my first test ride later this week. And I’ll do some filming and get back with some more i for for all that are thinking of buying this one but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. ;-) I’ll ride with the new skinny rear wings as well. I think the combination will be very interesting. Stay tuned for more….🤙
@@wingfoil_mallorca well I ope you have more wind over there than us, unfortunately we have the much needed rain here on the costa, not the much needed wind i need though
Hi. I am looking forward to your objective review of this 1201. Please test it first with your existing fuse/mast/rear, before using the skinny rear. As you always say "change one thing at a time" :). Regards. Spitfire? What's that?
Hi, thank you.Yes. That is how I will start the testing. Then I know what just the 1201 brings to the ride. Then add the skinnies, advanced fuse and so on for some extensive testing. Video will come, if the wind gods are willing, in about a couple of weeks. Also testing the Glide V2 from Takoon in on the way. Stay tuned! 😇😁
@@wingfoil_mallorca Thanks, sounds perfect. Did you ever imagine even just 1 year ago that we would have so many choices of foils? Many many options! I'm waiting ...
Spitfire is as far as i know their new rango of surf foils, they are about to be released soon. And not long after that the ARTPRO in smaller sizes will hit the market…..man, Axis are killin it this year!
Looking forward to the new AXIS Spitfire!! 🤩
Yeah, or wait….what Dan?? You know something I don’t? 🧐🤩😜😂

@@wingfoil_mallorca There's no end, apparently everyone is using the term - endless glide as if it has self propulsion :)
True! Endless glide would be greatly appreciated! But a steep ask! 😉😊😂

Its the skinny wing that is the big change! Lower aoa at last! No need to shim anymore. Art899 feels like a completly new wing.
I agree, the skinnies will awaken all axis wings to a new higher level! 😄😊🤙
Nice video! It will be interesting to see how the take-off speed compares to 1050 and 1300

I wonder what the skinny stab would be like on the HPS 1050 that would be interesting as well. 🤙
I will let you know later this week. 😇

Yes, we have wind more or less every day now. I hope to get a bunch of sessions done the coming week! I have the 1201 now and three of the Skiinies.
