    If you keep it with projecting your film on a projector and manual editing, it can be affordable. I have tried negative stock here in japan for the first time in 15 years of having this hobby, and it's way more expensive than just shooting reversal and keeping it with projecting your footage with a projector. Have to see how the digital editing process goes as I have only edited all my films manual for the past 15 years now trying this digital hybrid option for the first time.

    Generally you have to switch the "white balance filter" to tungsten when you use a daylight film and vice versa.

    Hey man, I just picked up an Elmo 2400AF, basically the same as yours, for ¥1200 on ヤフオク. Deadstock, still in the plastic! I'm very excited to get shooting on it but have a quick question about Retro8. Is there an option to get scanned footage back in positive or do they always send it back in negative? Any other labs I've seen (obviously not in Japan) send scans back in positive! I don't usually edit anything so only have access to iMovie

      Hey! Thanks for the comment.
      I finally got a response from Retro8, and they said that they do send scans back in positive! However they charge an extra 1.5x for the scanning fees, so footage under 10 mins that usually costs 8000 yen will cost 12,000 yen. Also, the negative has to be well exposed, or they won't be able to edit the scans well. Hope this helps!

    Yes, it's lots of fun using a super 8 camera and viewing the resulting film. Had a look at film prices here in Sweden. A roll of Kodak Ektachrome 100D costs US$ 83.60 (SKR 699). Sure it gives you a certain look that can be very useful in video production. But, with a little hit and miss with trying out how to emulate super 8 footage, you can get very good results from Premiere pro or other editing software at a much much lower price.
    Super 8 will probably never get it's old status as the private citizens way to document his/hers family for home use. It's rather has become the artists tool. The expensive tool. Where the more affordable tool is video with effects to make it look like any kind of film you wish.
    I sure hope the prices of super 8 film and processing will come down. It is fun to use those old cameras again...

      Thank you for your comment.
      You're right. Nowadays the digital emulations of super 8 film look pretty accurate, so learning how to do the edits yourself might be a better investment of time and money.
      ...unless you have the budget and the intention that makes super 8 film necessary.

    I have a question if I buy this Kodak film package will it come with multiple ones or just one ? Because it’s quite expensive and also the camera only does short videos right like 3 min but how do people have a whole film shot with it if it only makes 3min 😅

    • @atanaciojohn
      @atanaciojohn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You only get one roll (3 mins) worth of footage per package! It’s quite expensive indeed, so I think it’ll be safer to save your shots for the moments you really want to capture. Shooting short footages (few seconds) over a long period of time (couple days/months) might also be a fun option!

      @schelsiareis6859 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it means for these 3 min I can click the little thing to record few seconds and without it gets deleted I can continue in a month or few days later as well ? Btw thanks for responding ☺️

    It is impossible to fully simulate the Super 8 for a number of reasons

      Thank you for your comment.
      Would you elaborate on those reasons?

      @@atanaciojohn No one would shoot on film if there were no difference, the film forms a different character of the image due to the uniqueness of each frame having a three-dimensional structure of silver halides in contrast to a single matrix, compression adds artifacts not peculiar to film, movie cameras especially XL have a large shutter speed of 1/25-1/30 at 18 fps and video cameras change the ISO even with a constantly minimum shutter speed, not to mention automatic exposure, this for the most part forms the artistry of the dynamic image.

    Good video! Keep on shooting the video emulations are quick to fool ya but it is not super 8 and will never truly achieve the look or feel of film. Fake is fake no matter how you dress it up.
