    Thank you this was very helpful. I chose this route as my switches are in good condition other than the lights burnt out and wanted to keep OEM and have all of the lights match. I removed the airbag center per a different video which helped considerably to be able to wiggle enough slack in the wires. The small bottom switches for mine were very difficult in fact I'm not sure that I could have gotten them. There are a few ideas of how to get the switches back in. One suggested what I chose; I used dental like picks to be able to hook and hold the wire socket and then just push the switch back on. I have some other lights out on the heater control which I'll tackle next.

    What fuse do I check 1st before I need to do all this? To see if it’s a fuse and not have to replace the bulb unless I have too. Thanks much

    What is the purpose of the blue "condom"? Is it to keep the bulb from overheating the button? If I do this and switch to an LED bulb, I assume the blue condom is not needed, is that a correct assumption? Thanks.

      Phil Day it’s for the color temperature, to give off a pure white light rather than a dull yellow incandescent light color

    If your buttons are worn and back lighting dead, get new controls with LED's already installed: www.ebay.com/str/gmgaugerepair/GM-Steering-Wheel-Controls/_i.html?_storecat=5294336017

      Len C take the steering wheel control apart and remove the original lights connect just the circuit board make sure you connect it back to the right slot/or plug use one of your led lights and touch the legs on the circuit board terminals when the led lights up that's it you found your 12v positive and negative use a marker to mark a + or -- good luck

      I'm sure they would but do yourself a favor and DO THEM YOURSELF. I'm literally cringing as I type this just thinking of how much a dealer would steal from you to switch lights...

    I've been doing this in my GMC Sierra when I have time and i'll let you know this. I've put 12v led bulbs in my 4wd, dome, fog, and dimmer switches, as well as my instrument cluster and they all work fine. All this talk of resistors and stuff is non-sense. I haven't had any "dim" or burnt out bulbs at all. Do yourself a favor and order a 50 pc pack. Polarity will be trial and error but it's really easy to solder and unsolder as needed. Cluster has 11, 4wd switch has 2, cargo and fog light switch has 2, dimmer switch has 1. About to get into door switches and radio. Do yourself a favor and invest in a solder sucker.

      Derek Verville what color did you do I'm trying to keep the stock color but I'm not sure what bulbs to go with

    • @derekverville1125
      @derekverville1125 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did blue and they look great, so good actually that 3 of my friends did the same thing. I strongly suggest if you don't want a color than go with the white led instead of the stock yellowish halogen, way brighter.

      It's been my experience fixing lots of this stuff that if you can hang on to OEM parts you're better off. Most aftermarket stuff is very cheaply made. So replacing bulbs is smart in this case in my opinion.
