God, I miss this car. I used to have this same exact vehicle. I lost it due to bankruptcy, years back. I came back, financially and driving my dream car. 92 3000GT VR-4. Now I want to get a VR-X again. Mainly because driving a 5 speed in the city gets annoying at times.
The best versions being an Australian designed and built car were the Magna VRX, The RALLIART Magna. And they progressed to a 5 speed sequential. But a Limited 3.8L AWD which is very quick! They continued being made in Australia until maybe 2007/2008 and were called the Mitsubishi 380 AWD. Your diamante is called a TJ series 2. They had the standard 3.5L v6. They came in 4cyl. Then a 3.0L V6, a 3.5L V6. Limited run stroker 3.8L AWD. a Ralliart version which should have been AWD too but sadly it was FWD with a LSD. the a 3.5L V6 mitsubishi 380. One good trick to get back some ponies is disconnect the black negative terminal cable for about 30mins connect back start and leave idling for 15mins. Take it for a good drive spirited if possible and it will reset the ecu in both engine and transmission. As the transmission has adaptive shift will learn your driving style. Modifications are limited as the air box is small and the filter is part of the air box. Buy a new panel filter gut out your old one, get a maf adaptor and can then fit a small/medium ram pod filter inside the air box and its enclosed. Gut the cat convertor and put on a rear sports muffler will see it gain a good improvement. always use double platinum spark plugs- biggest flaw being the intake manifold needs removing to get them. So get double platinum ones so you so you don't need to change change them for a couple of years
These cars were made in Australia and exported to the USA, Middle East and several other countries. Even the 6G74 3.5L V6 engine was also made in Australia. I'm from Australia and I own a 2000 Mitsubishi TJ Magna is in the Metallic Red paint finish. Its a 5 speed Auto with tiptronic mode, very good on fuel for a 6 cylinder car and parts are cheap. Very good cars indeed. ABS braking excellent and a very good cruise control too.
Its a standard diamante size, although it feels large. Its the same outlay as the Ralli-art diamante! Its not in large demand but over here (and there) there are not many of the "Limited-Edition" wheels which is what they are named. Thus they are very expensive! Also the seats would fetch a small fortune over here due to the fact that none of our VRX's came with that specific type of leather! You've got a nice car btw, I like it allot!
Mine that you see in the video currently has 87,700 miles on it and still going. It seems to be that most of the major problems seem to occur when the car is closer to new. But for the past few years I've just been mainly doing regular oil changes and it's been doing great. I have noticed though that I do have oil leaking out slowly of the pan and engine block so check to see if that Diamante has that, if it does you'll have to keep an eye on your oil level from time to time.
@MrTraew A couple other things the MPGs aren't that great but I don't expect great MPGs out of any V6. So yeah definitely it is very much different and I love it! Of course there's the low resale value that hooks onto other Mitsubishi cars but as long as I keep that out my mind I'm very satisfied. It's pretty cool you're planning to get a 00" LS but be sure the car is checked over and make sure you're getting a good deal as these cars are at that point.
@MrTraew Thanks! Yeah the Diamante is pretty much out of the U.S market. I really like the car it's much different. It isn't as reliable and trouble free as other sedans I guess. It has about 78k into it and we've put at least about 2k in repairs and a little bit more for parts that are usually needed to be changed for any other car. I like the styling like I said it's much different and you don't see these everyday like Accords or Camrys.
Nicee! 140k isn't too high and I usually think that the higher the mileage the better the car is maintained because it reached such a high mileage, but it also depends on the price you pay too because people often look at mileage and see that if it's too high there is no value left. So it depends on the person. For the headunit it really depends on you cause you'll save a lot with a FM transmitter but it won't work great from my experience but a new headunit...
Yeah you are right it really isn't enough! It'd probably save more gas with more gears too. Well at this moment I really have no clue if they have that option for a 5 or 6 speed auto or not, so I can't really answer you question, but if I find out I'll be happy to let you know, or if you find out before hand that's cool too! Sorry about that.
@TheDoncreation No Prob!! Yeah you can find them for pretty cheap prices these days! Be sure to look at some of the comments below too since they might be helpful if you were to buy this car.
@TypicalB18 It was around 1500$ only because I knew the mechanic well , just make sure put it in park ,with your foot on the brake the pull up the ebrake so the tranny wont be strained then let go of your foot, and not to ramble but if you have the chance to put the car away in storage, do it, I currently have mine in storage because one day these car will regain their value as well I want to drive it when im older
Ahh I see, yeah the Ralli-Art is pretty cool and too bad not offered in the U.S, but I guess I can see why it's not offered! Haha Thanks for all the info and comment, appreciate it!!
i notice the VR-X trim has the Silver Gauges.....the other Trim Levels have the Lexus Style Optitron Gauges that have a 3D effect...im sure a gauge cluster swap will be a piece of cake.
@form109 Ohh I didn't know that. Well I think it's mostly only the LS since the ES was the base and I guess the VR-X comes out in the middle. Yeah mine isn't powered all manual. I'm not sure what was the MSRP on the LS though since I didn't really see any. At the time I believe they only had about 3 VR-X mine, a Black & a Gray/Silver. Hmm yeah those cars did really do well either, but I guess out of all of them I still find the Diamante most attractive. Seems like they are building up now though
apparently the Diamante also had a power tilt and telescoping steering coloumn in its higher trims....i think its the LS trim....im not sure. apparently the Diamante is related to the Hyundai XG and the Kia Amanti...you could think of them all as luxury sedans made by manufactures normally associated with economy lol.
Wow I love the old school analog odometer - there were still cars in '02 that used them?! By the way, production of this car ended here in Australia in 2005.
@Neojhun Ohh yeah I remember seeing the tag on the car which stated that this car was mainly Australia. Hmm I had no idea that they closed down the 360 & Magna models were completely gone as I thought they were popular over there. That's pretty sad well I've still got mine and I'm satisfied with it.
@spurs2061 Ohh alright yeah I'll be sure to do that. Just also out of curiosity is it best to park with the E brake every time whether it's on a Slope or Flat surface or just on a slope surface? Because the only time I parked it on a slope was when I made this video. Haha yeah I'd like to keep this car in storage but it's a car my family and I use often in need, so not much of a chance to put it in storage, but yeah I'd like to see the value of these go up since I rarely see them. Thanks!
@form109 Yepp. I like the other Trim's gauges though maybe since I see the VR-X ones everyday lol. I also dislike how they light up the Unleaded Fuel Only while they leave the VR-X words in the dark, but yeah totally the swap would do it, or possibly find a VR-X one and exchange it haha.
Sorry to hear that, but very happy to hear you got back on your feet again!! Yeah it's a nice car but couple things I need to do to it here and there. Nice I really like the 3000GTs but I don't see many clean ones for sale in my area but not exactly looking to buy another car anyways. I've been learning to drive stick through my friend's cars lately and have been doing pretty good so I might get another car that's stick and drive with that since this car is mainly my moms.
Ohh yeah it's actually about the same here in California, and usually you don't see VR-X's either, but every now and then I do and they're actually not in too bad of a shape, but the LS's & ES's are a different story.
That I honestly don't know. I'm sure with enough money or somewhere they do have conversions but I'm not entirely sure on it. I think in other versions of this car in Australia might have a manual transmission option with more gears, but haven't personally looked into that.
@TypicalB18 do you ever get comments on how the Diamante looks like a BMW? the interior design of the Diamante is similar to the Lexus ES to me. as for the gauges i found it funky how the VRX Trim clusters have a mechanical odometer.
Mitsubishi Magna are all made in Australia, Adelaid. They suceeded by the Mitsubishi 360 which is a very modern design and slightly larger. But because of market demand, big fuel hungry cars became realy unpopular for a Brand that was already not selling. So Mitsubishi Australia sadly closed down the 360 & Magna model was not only discontinued but dead.
Definately use it on a slope but even on a flat surface the transmission will be slightly strained but nothing major , most likely wear over time, just to be safe use it at all times , also make sure when putting the car in reverse and swithing it to drive wait until the car comes to a complete stop, then shift, shifting the gear into drive while it is moving will also cause alot of stain on the tranny
i have a silver diamante vr-x like yours but mine has a dual overhead cam running with a little more power but less gas milage with a simple aftermarket exhaust
Nice!!! Glad to hear that it's running good!! Well I personally haven't seen any rims for this car because not too many people own them here but for some time I've been looking at TSWs. There's a lot more of course but just depends on what you like!
For me personally I'd rather have the Digital Odometer which was used in the LS Models of the Same year Diamantes and Previous years. But I guess they fitted the Analog ones for the VR-X models. Ohh damn didn't know that I guess it was just a year after they stopped for the US.
@form109 Haha I've never got a comment on it but I have thought about it many times! Yeah I guess it does have somewhat of a similarity. Yeah I honestly wonder why they don't keep digital ones. I also dislike how they took the radio controls out of the VR-X and keep them in the LS & 3000GT. It's still a great looking car though but could be better with more changes.
@yahdeen Nice, Hmm are you sure you're not hitting the TCL switch in the car, if not probably something could be wrong with perhaps the sensors for traction which I have read on some forums. I can't really recommend a certain place for buying parts for this car as I pretty much go all over the places to find a certain part. Sorry if I couldn't help you out here!
And, on top of my half filipino/malay heritage, i am also native american [northern Oregon Chinook tribe as i have researched]. :) Also, in regards to you being Chinese/Vietnamese, that definitely fits. As i do know that a lot of people from the East [you probably know which parts i'm referring to] are more pale than those from the Middle East and especially the South.
I have the titanium silver vrx nd I really do love it but to unlock its true potential I have to out a lot of money in it that nd my interior is starting to fall apart like the headliner nd panels are loose. I'm looking into gettin a 5 speed manual transmission also
So you really have to see how that ES was taken care of though the 113k on it. If properly maintained it can run for many more miles if not you might run into some problems. I am going to say this though it's probably not as reliable as a Accord or Camry. So check it out and see how it is, might be best to get a technician to check it out too.
If you find a Used one at a decent price with decent work done to it like Major stuff. Belt's, Water Pump, Valve Cover Gaskets, required maintenance and repairs these cars can last you a long time with the right care. If not there's going to be a large amount of money put in as most V6s take a bit more effort to repair. Also the gas mileage isn't great on this car so if you're not looking to spend money on Gas I wouldn't recommend it. So in the end it's up to you. Still a great car though!
Thanks for the info, that is pretty cool man!!! Yeah I wish I had a 5 Speed with Tiptronic mode but too bad stuck with a 4 Speed Auto. Haha and parts for me aren't cheap and often hard to find too, but that's where the internet can help I guess! Thanks!
Nicee! Haven't seen one of those yet, but pretty sure it looks great! Yeah I just don't find too many parts for this car, or I do just that I don't have the money for them. Overall I'm happy with it being stock though. My Interior is alright only wear on the plastic trim where the Window switches are and center console. The Dash where the windshield vents are has a part where it is popping out due to weather. Yeah the 4 Speed Auto pisses me of sometimes. Also my Valve Cover gasket is leaking now
Not really haha, cause I personally don't have the experience in doing a water pump job yet! Do your timing belt while you change the water pump they usually go together if you didn't know already! Other than that I'd say good luck!
@TypicalB18 yea im in rhode island and I go weeks without seeing one of these cars, but if I do see one its usually beat up and not taken care of which is ashame
I had an '02 Diamante. It was a great car to drive. Unfortunately, the heater core on the Diamante's were notorious for leaking. Worse yet, Mitsubishi put the ECU directly under the heater core, so it leaked anti-freeze all over the ECU, causing it to fail. Mitsubishi's answer to the poor design was to put a sheet of plastic over the ECU, which of course did nothing to stop hot anti-freeze from getting to the ECU. I wish they would have continued to make the Diamante and corrected the problem with the heater core.
Nice, yeah ours had the same problem if I didn't mention it in the video. It luckily didn't get on the ECU so the car is still alive but on it's way out, Transmission is slips here and the head gasket is leaking. Not to a point where it's overheating or not driveable but is getting pretty bad. Just told my mom to drive it till it dies and I'd find another car for her then. I check weekly on the fluid levels so doing my best to keep it somewhat going without spending money on repairs.
@TheDataZoo Haha yeah this car now is worth about $3k - $4k now I'd rather keep it even with the problems that had happened to it. I really can't believe that it's such a nice car worth that price, but it will always be worth a lot to me haha.
It was just a question, cause in my opinion 4 gears for a 3,5l V6 is not enough, it would be way better with 5 or 6 speed either automatic either manual transmission. Since is a luxury car I would prefer automatic
@spurs2061 Ohh Alright, yeah I definitely will! Yeah I noticed I'm the only one out of my friends that actually puts the car to a full stop the change gears while my friends do it like in a quick second which I guess I'm also not really capable of either haha! Thanks!!
@spurs2061 Ohh, Thanks for letting me know!! Yeah I can see parking on a slope makes it act a bit different, but yes I'll be sure to use the e brake when I park!! Thanks again for the advice and I hope I didn't do too much wear into it. How much did it cost you to replace yours?
@TheDataZoo Haha Exactly! Yeah it does have a lot of maintenance done into it but better than getting $3k for it. So how many miles you got in your 93 Accord?
@jdizzle1412 Hmm yeah maybe I guess it's to even things out as you might be needed to change those later in time anyways. Well I've still got a longs way to go with just about 80,500!
Ohh nice, how'd you get a DOHC in yours? I see, yeah had a thought about an exhaust but I think the stock one does pretty well. It's not loud but it has a deep rumble. Any other mods? I know for this car stuff isn't easily accessible.
Ohh Nicee what kind of Engine do you have in there? I was reading and the DOHC 6G74s came only in the Pajero? What kind of Exhaust do you have in there too? Haha mine is still completely stock!
Haha That's interesting! I actually find the wheel sorta large in size compared to all other vehicles I've driven. Know if the wheel is in high demand? Haha Thanks!
@jdizzle1412 Haha pretty pricey, but if it's needed then I guess you gotta do it! So did the water pump & thermostat fail or did you just decide to replace it?
@jdizzle1412 Haha well I guess that's another common problem this car has!! I think I might get a new bulb for it later if it bugs me enough to see that all the others work and the Drive doesn't. So how many miles you got on your 01?
Personally I don't really think so compared to the common Sedans from per say like the Accord or Camry or even other sedans out there with a standard V6. It's more of a car that you'd have to love, and not to think about Gas and Maintenance all the time, this car in my opinion wouldn't really fall in that category.
i have that same exact car. i have had it for 3 years now. i bought it with 93,000 miles and its still going good and it has around 130,000 now. what kind of rims do you think would look good on it?
can you give me some advice my mitsi diamante97 sei emergency lights have just started coming on at random it started today when I turned on my car it started blinking. I had to try sop it before I moved off, I found that it also happened sometimes when I used the blinkers while moving out of a parking lot
I have the same type of car......can anyone tell me why my "TCL" light keeps coming on. Also where is the best place to get parts for this car........thanks
Hey, I just bought this car with pretty high mileage but it runs great. The one thing I don't like is the fact it does not have an AUX input. I have the iphone5. What's the best way to fix this? How much would it cost to have an AUX input installed or should I use an FM transmitter. Also is 140000 miles too high?
The Diamante was made in Australia and exported abroad. In the middle east (UAE, Bahrain, etc) it is named the Magna. The US Diamante (2000-2003 aka TJ series) is like the Australian Verada, but is missing the side turning signals and only has the regular 4 speed auto.

True , no matter what its ashame that these cars were discontinued, but if your interested I can upload a video of my ls if youd want to see it
@TheDoncreation No Prob!! Yeah you can find them for pretty cheap prices these days! Be sure to look at some of the comments below too since they might be helpful if you were to buy this car.
I like this car my aunt used to have on one but she gave it to her duaghter cus she was in high school. anyways nice video home dog
Ohh I see! Yeah you are spot on! I personally haven't actually focused much on this topic but thinking about it, it's true!

Other than that I'd say good luck!
nice work on the 1000 subs
@TypicalB18 yea im in rhode island and I go weeks without seeing one of these cars, but if I do see one its usually beat up and not taken care of which is ashame
Sweet!....Very Nice Car!...thanks for making the video!
Thank you for the video...I am looking into buying this car
Does the lcd screen on the auto climate control display shuts off during startup??
It was just a question, cause in my opinion 4 gears for a 3,5l V6 is not enough, it would be way better with 5 or 6 speed either automatic either manual transmission. Since is a luxury car I would prefer automatic
@spurs2061 Ohh Alright, yeah I definitely will! Yeah I noticed I'm the only one out of my friends that actually puts the car to a full stop the change gears while my friends do it like in a quick second which I guess I'm also not really capable of either haha! Thanks!!
I can't believe how much the front bumper sticks out... you could almost use that bumper as a bench seat.
Damnn Nicee!! Keep it up!! Diamantes FTW!
Haha Yeah I am somewhat pale although I am Chinese/Vietnamese so that could be the reason why! So you're right!
@jdizzle1412 Nice!! Not sure when to put a new one in mine, maybe I guess around 150k or less. How much did it cost you?
Yea I have to take it out storage so I should have the video up in a day or so
@jdizzle1412 Haha well I guess that's another common problem this car has!!
Yeah sure if it's not a hassle it'd be cool!
i have that same exact car. i have had it for 3 years now. i bought it with 93,000 miles and its still going good and it has around 130,000 now. what kind of rims do you think would look good on it?
can you give me some advice my mitsi diamante97 sei emergency lights have just started coming on at random it started today when I turned on my car it started blinking. I had to try sop it before I moved off, I found that it also happened sometimes when I used the blinkers while moving out of a parking lot
would you recommend this as a first car? im 17 and looking to buy a car, and i love the interior on this car.
And I can understand that its a car that you use oftenly I was just suggesting
@jnazty1234 Yep I do.
Is this a good first car? I'm considering this or an Infiniti I30.
I'm considering a 02 magna Mitsubishi
very nice
@joye1953 Nice! Yeah they're really nice cars, Thanks!
Awesome
can you put a 5 or 6 speed automatic transmission in it?
I have one trying to change my water pump Any suggestions?
yo dude do u still have this car ???
Use that emergency brake when you park I just had to get my diamante tranny replaced bcause of not using it
dual overhead cam v6 24 valve and i don't know what kind of exhaust it is but its not stock and the name isnt printed on it
@hondafan71 Haha Thanks!
@TheDataZoo Haha it's alright that's a good amount. Should last you for a very long time haha!
I'm ausie I own a 03 TL there called Magnas and veradas over here lol I've never heard of diamante before
The Diamante was made in Australia and exported abroad. In the middle east (UAE, Bahrain, etc) it is named the Magna. The US Diamante (2000-2003 aka TJ series) is like the Australian Verada, but is missing the side turning signals and only has the regular 4 speed auto.
I want to watch video Mitsubishi Magna 2004 VRX
Nice beautifulagna
is this near Dallas or Houston?
Nope, over here in California!
Why does that chime sound like a Chrysler chime?
@spurs2061 Haha Yeah!
Haha yeah, but it's too weak for it though!
Lmao u rock man.. pretty roomy but im asian .so im pretty small
