Have A Nice Day! Diane Kruger was born in Germany so it is her mother language and I think with 16 she moved to Paris and that is why her French is also good :)
Bilingual, dissecting the word, means two languages. It doesn't speak to when you started learning one or the other. And it doesn'tmean you necessarily speak them both at the same level. A person who speaks two languages, the less proficient one at least conversationally, can safely call themselves bilingual. But unless you are surrounded by both languages in your culture (either by linguistic demographics or by speaking a second language at home) you will not be at the same level in both.
Jodie foster speaks nothing short but perfect Italian, I think her French accent when speaking it is awesome as well. As person who deserves an honorable mention is Kobe Bryant, his Italian is also excellent.
It's Famke Janssen, not Jannsen. Btw she's Dutch and able to speak 4 languages: Dutch, English, French and German as most of the Dutch people.. She said that at Ellen DeGeneres.
First of all thanks a lot for video. May I make some sugesstions if you make another one? Renee Zellweger, Rebecca de Mornay and Sandra Bullock all speak german fluently. Sandra with even some frankonian accent, very cute! If somebody tells you otherwise, di Caprio's german is rudimentary. Though he understands more than he speaks. He is just out of practice, I think. Obama's sister Dr.Auma Obama speaks german. It's admirable, because it is a difficult language and still not very popular
Famke Jannsen, Jodie Foster and Diane Kruger are the only bilingual celebrities in this video. Bilingual means that you speak two languages BESIDES your own. Otherwise the vast majority of the world would be bilingual, and then this video wouldn't make sense.
Morena grew up in Brazil and she is Br and it actually makes sense that she'd be fluent Im taking Portuguese evening classes. It is exausting but I love it. both my cousins are married to Bahianos, their kids spend their holidays here in France.I taught them French and in return they teach me a few words of portuguese. This summer I will teach them some French grammar so they can be on par with local children.
My dream is to be fluent in French like Jodie Foster.. I'm in school now and I'm learning it, but unfortunately second languages taught in school (not english, but Spanish etc) are often forgotten quickly by students, and I really hope that isn't me! I even turned my TH-cam, Facebook and Google onto French
I was born in The Netherlands and I learned German, French and English and Latin in the Dutch school system. It does help that many movies on t.v had subtitles in my language so you can connect some of the words together.
I'm amazed to hear that many american stars are fluent in french language !!This is a very hard language (first for us) and i imagine how it must be as difficult for a foreigner (the grammary is just hell to learn) !!
Some see it as a waste because the year after it can be hard to adjust back to studies but yeah that year is focused on other things than school studies like language learning. Also, a common thing to do in Summers for Irish teenagers is to go down to the Gaeltacht areas, i.e Irish speaking areas, and immerse yourself down there. In 3 weeks you can come back fluent. In fact, I'm doing it this year.
Yeah here in Ireland we have something called Transition Year, it's after you complete the Junior cycle of education, and it's a year to do different things and a lot of people go to the countries of their foreign languages and come back fluent.
At 4:47 Ferguson says "quis cais"? I'm I right with that? To the portuguese speakers out there, what does he mean by that? "quis" is is I think a conjugation of "quer" and "cais" means "harbor?". Would be really greatful, I learning portuguese!
That's one of the reasons I want to learn Portuguese so I can travel to Brazil. I can understand a bit from knowing Spanish alright but I'd definitely like to learn to speak Portuguese and Spanish more fluently.
these celebs fluent in multiple languages. You miss one more: Stana Katic (she's fluent in 5 diferent language and many dialects) haha :) but it was a very enjoyable video. Thank you.
Whats the best software or dvd to learn the Real French Accent like Diane Kruger? I dont think Rosetta Stone gives you that pronunciation perfection? I want that perfection its amazing.
I'm Brazilian and Marina Braccarin, Daniela Ruah speaks Portuguese very well!!! But i think Marina Braccarin is Brazilian, because she's speaks Portuguese REALLY REALLY good!!
You are right.I study French as my second foreign language and it's hard to be really fluent, but maybe if i studied French first, and then English,it would be different.I study French since I was in 5th grade and English since the 2nd grade. It really makes a difference.
Awesome ! It is fun to hear them speak another language out of english ! French is my first language, so it is very fun and cool to hear stars I usually know speaking english, speaking french XD Great vid ;)
It's hard enough to learn and master a 2nd language different from their first. I know from experience. I can't comprehend how someone can learn more than that; it's not just memorizing verbs and nouns, but it's memorizing an entirely new sentence structure and grammar rules. What is the best way to go about it?
I heard Mira Sorvino speaks Mandarin. I'd like to see a clip of that. All these examples of people speaking more than one European language is impressive, don't get me wrong, but if they spoke a completely dissimilar language like from Asia or Africa or a Native American language as a second language, I'd find that even more impressive.
yes as a French , Emma Thomson has a little accent. "le plus" , we say (not all of us) the sound "s" in the end, "inclus" there is no "i" (because she says "incluiii" ^^), and like most of non french speaker it's difficult for her to pronounce the sounds "en" "on" "an" "in " "un". But accents are beautiful, and thanks to all the english speakers trying to speak our language !
I'm Italian and I speak french too and I have to say I'm quite impressed by Jodie Foster. It's very difficult for Americans or anglophone people in general speak languages like italian or french cause they far from english (both in grammar and vocabulary/accent). but she does it perfectly. good colin too but not like jodie
Sounds like an Argentinian accent to me. She dropped the S once or twice and doesn't really lisp at the Cs (unless I'm getting the conjugations wrong.) Or maybe it's not either Argentinian or Spanish. I'd be curious to know too. It depends where / who she learned Spanish from.
Kobe Bryant is fluent in Italian--he played buckets in Italy at the start of his career. Both Leonardo Di Caprio and Sandra Bullock are fluent in German (grandparents from there). Good for one and all for knowing another language--makes you twice the person and should be an inspiration for us all.
Have A Nice Day! No, Diane Kruger is German and she spoke German (Deutsch) in the video ... I don't know where you saw her spoke Dutch (Netherlands) in this video lol
I am so impressed with bilingual (or more) people, I took three yrs germanand two of latin and I would be lost in germany and ancient rome lol. Unless my questions are one of the following (and excuse the lack of proper format) Darf ich toilette gehen? Or Darf ich meinen bleischift spitzen? Pretty sure i fucked up a lot on the spellings. Lol. But I guess some people can hold onto it, amazing.
Really, b/c I really imagined that a lot of people in the Uk would at least know some French. I speak some Spanish pretty well, but I do need to improve a bit and I'd like to learn Portuguese, italian, and some Creole in addition to all of that. But I weirdly always felt it necessary given living in the USA it's the most common language spoken other than English and is more spoken throughout the Americas.
Not Most..Spanish,Italian,French etc. are..but you are forgetting the slavian languages, the Germanic ones...Finnish, Hungarian are a separete family as well and so on ..so NO not MOST European languages are from Latin
Of course, dialects vary a lot. The south of Sweden is sometimes difficult for me to understand when spoken (I´m from Stockholm), but we spell excactly the same. That doesn´t change at all. The north have their (sometimes inbred) accents, which differ sometimes in expressions. However; it is still the same language and is spelled in one way only; in swedish:)
Diane Kruger is actually multilingual not just bilubnagal, as she is fluent in at least three languages, as is Jodie Foster. Mrs. Foster played French charakters in French movies, and she was nominated for many French awards for her french performances.
i think that there are much more celebrities who can speak spanish, even more of them really well like Gwyneth Palthtrow or Viggo Montersen for exemple.
Seeing Famke, Malin, Paul and others with foreign backgrounds speek in their native tongue isn't as impressive as Jodie Foster's French and Italian or Colin Firth's Italian or Diane's French. It's awesome to see people making the effort to learn languages other than their native tongue. I wish I had the time to learn another language (I've been saying for the last 5 yrs that I want to learn Italian but I haven't managed to make time for it yet).
It's really funny how British people speak French so well. You can't help but think of high educated people (cause even if I still don't know why, French is considered as a prestigious language).
i speak english and spanish fluently and i'm learning italian and i'm getting pretty good at it. speaking 3 languages is pretty fucking cool though. and i do agree that kids in school should grow up learning another language. it's easier for them to learn it at such a young age.

There are several Romance languages derived from Latin. The five you listed are the five most widely spoken, but another, Catalan, is the sixth and is spoken in four countries in Europe and is the official language of Andorra. Romansch is another language believed to be the closest living language to Latin and it is spoken in Switzerland. There are far more than 5 Romance languages. There are more than 5 in Spain alone, not including Spanish.
You are talking about dialects, not another langauge, Exactly like my language (swedish) varies a lot from the north to the south. Still it is the same language and is spelled the same way. Therefor I can say she is from Germany. I mean you don´t spell in one way in Lübeck and in another way in München? It´s the same language, but different dialects. BIG difference.
Mais bien sur que 90% des acteurs qui font semblant de parler Francais n'arrivent pas à construire une phrase cohérente. Ils sont mignons mais il n ya que Jodie qui est bilingue. Et peut-etre Diane Krugaire. Trop bonne.
Yes, Jodie Foster is incredible, I watched other videos with Jodie Foster's french interviews and she has no american accent! And that's the reason why she makes the french dubbing of most of her characters in her films.
Actually, English is a mix of several Germanic tongues, along with some latin and norse thrown in for good measure. If you read 'Canterbury Tales' by Chaucer in the original Old English, it is almost indecipherable.
As someone raised bilingual, people will hardly ever display equal proficiency in both languages. I was raised bilingual French-German, and depending on certain subjects, I will be stronger in one or another. That is why, as professional translators/interpreters, perform from the foreign language into the native language because language levels are almost never equal. But that does not mean that someone can then not be considered bilingual or polyglot (more than 3 languages).
Foster's mum was a French teacher and Jodie is completely French educated.Technically there is no merit.Colin firth's wife is Italian so it helped shape his skills and sounds real good.My favourite fake french accent was Evangalline Lilly, I couldn't understand a word of what she said but she sounded so sexy

LOL! It's the same thing with French. French grammar remains the same no matter what francophone country you come from. However no 2 French speaking country have the same accent/way of talking, and even within the same country it may differ.
OMG Jodie Foster almost sounds like she lives in France. Diane Kruger is also very fluent!
Have A Nice Day! Diane Kruger was born in Germany so it is her mother language and I think with 16 she moved to Paris and that is why her French is also good :)
Jodie Foster is so freaking smart
she sounds great in any language
Jodie Foster and Diane Kruger speak French like native French speakers.
Omg Jodie Foster is so cute when she says "horrible" haha
she sounds like una argentina.
Jodie Foster's French is flawless but then she was educated at a French school, so it should be.
Jodie is the best
She's perfect. It's amazing.
let's not forget Diane Kruger
Freddie Highmore also speaks spanish very fluently and according to what he studied at university, he should also speak arabic
Bilingual, dissecting the word, means two languages. It doesn't speak to when you started learning one or the other. And it doesn'tmean you necessarily speak them both at the same level. Jodie Foster's French is very, very good... Freddie Highmore and Bradley Cooper aren't too shabby either.
Freddie Highmore is so cute when he speaks french, he's cute anyway, but knowing another language is a bonus.
I'm a native french speaker and Jodie's french is flawless! She even has a tiny parisian accent.
Jodie foster speaks nothing short but perfect Italian, I think her French accent when speaking it is awesome as well. As person who deserves an honorable mention is Kobe Bryant, his Italian is also excellent.
Diane Kruger's french is spot on. Amazing.
I enjoyed this video way more than I thought I would. It's also 7 am. I also havent slept. I'm going to stop typing now.
Well yeah. I said I'm Australian, and I live in Australia, it's not as common to be bilingual here as in the States or the UK.

jodie foster has a talent for languages!
I read somewhere that he first learned because of his wife, who is Italian.

including Diane Kruger for German, Famke is a bit unfair, as it is their mother tongue (i think). And where is Viggo Mortessen?
So? They're still bilingual.
Why? Per definition they are still bilingual. Actually, both are at least trilingual. ;-)
Colin Firth truly speaks Italian....HIS HANDS KEEP MOVING!!!
Yeah here in Ireland we have something called Transition Year, it's after you complete the Junior cycle of education, and it's a year to do different things and a lot of people go to the countries of their foreign languages and come back fluent.

Where is Cristiano Ronaldo? Spanish, Portuguese, English !
Jodie Foster simply Amazing !! No english accent when she's speak french :)
What Spanish accent does Odette have? Sounds like Castilian from Spain.... But I wouldn't know.
Is not Marina is Morena and she is actually Brazilian
You are right.I study French as my second foreign language and it's hard to be really fluent, but maybe if i studied French first, and then English,it would be different.I study French since I was in 5th grade and English since the 2nd grade. It really makes a difference.

That's better than me only knowing English and Spanish.
wow, how weird to see that America Ferrera doesnt speak spanish fluently. Don't know why but always thought that spanish was her mother tongue.
even Alexis Bledel speaks better spanish than her
Can you hear me Major Tom? Why the 'even' alex bledl is half argentine half mexican why wouldnt she speak spanish?
Diane Kruger has been (and continues to star) in some awesome French films. "Pour Elle" is epic, you should check it out.
It's hard enough to learn and master a 2nd language different from their first. I know from experience. I can't comprehend how someone can learn more than that; it's not just memorizing verbs and nouns, but it's memorizing an entirely new sentence structure and grammar rules. Honestly, if I could have any super power in the world it would be to instantly pick up any language with no accent.
This is really nice, thank you for this!
In Italian classes, is it a requirement that they also teach you how to talk with your hands?
yes as a French , Emma Thomson has a little accent. "le plus" , we say (not all of us) the sound "s" in the end, "inclus" there is no "i" (because she says "incluiii" ^^), and like most of non french speaker it's difficult for her to pronounce the sounds "en" "on" "an" "in " "un". sweet Jesus Evangeline comes in french to kill me now
Its not marina Baccarin..its Morena Baccarin

The person was talking about the original comment in which 'Swedish' is spelled 'sweendish'.
Diane Kruger's dress at 5:03 looks like Jake from Adventure Time
Famke Janssen is Dutch so her speaking Dutch is ... normal
occi31 So is Diane Kruger but she spoke Dutch in the video.
Unless my questions are one of the following (and excuse the lack of proper format)
Darf ich toilette gehen?
Or
Darf ich meinen bleischift spitzen?
Pretty sure i fucked up a lot on the spellings. Lol. But I guess some people can hold onto it, amazing.
Darf ich auf die Toilette gehen? / Darf ich meinen Bleistift anspitzen?
+alpha ceta *Darf ich mir die Hände waschen. a
"auf die toilette gehen is too direct and in most cases just plain vulgar...
janjan55555 Ich habe bloß seinen Satz vervollständigt aber egal...
alpha ceta Yes, but I find it too direct =)
Just a matter of preference...
janjan55555 Just address your concern to the writer of the original comment and not me

Where is Christoph Waltz?
Doesn't he speak english, german, french and italian?
If they did bilingual athletes, Kobe Bryan would surely make the list.
Diane Kruger is actually multilingual not just bilubnagal, as she is fluent in at least three languages, as is Jodie Foster. Mrs. Foster played French charakters in French movies, and she was nominated for many French awards for her french performances.
What language is speaking Famke Janssen at the beginning of this video?
i love this.
Colin Firth speaking italian?? **dies**
i think that there are much more celebrities who can speak spanish, even more of them really well like Gwyneth Palthtrow or Viggo Montersen for exemple.

Freddie Highmore's french is great! I didn't even know he spoke french! And Jodie Foster's french is too but I already knew that.
Veo que hablas varios y he visto mensajes en los que también los escribes. Bien por ti.
He doesn't speak italian, in Inglorious Basterds he just crammed those few lines.
''Parlo con un accento francese oribile''
ahahaha come si fa a non amarla?
freddie highmore is cute speaking french
What about Españglés-Spanglish? lol I worry about that sometimes.
Isn't Ms Baccarin called "Morena", instead of "Marina"?
Can anyone please translate what Famke is saying in Dutch?
That and Malin Akerman is Swedish and Anton Yelchin is Russian.
i speak english and spanish fluently and i'm learning italian and i'm getting pretty good at it. speaking 3 languages is pretty fucking cool though. and i do agree that kids in school should grow up learning another language. it's easier for them to learn it at such a young age.
Diane Kruger is German, isn't she ??
Agreed. I am American and speak some French (I used to be fairly fluent but I am way out of practice). I have always been conscious that I sound, and most Americans sound, like an American speaking French, and not a native. Jodie sounds like a native.
Sandra bullock is missing!
Actingout, could you next upload a video of cunnilingual celebrities?
You are talking about dialects, not another langauge, Exactly like my language (swedish) varies a lot from the north to the south. Still it is the same language and is spelled the same way. if you mean Diane Kruger.. she is German and she moved to Fraance at age 16 I think by herself... so she definitely had to speak those two languages..
they should have done penelope cruz speaking italian on punk'd!
I'm bilingual, completely fluent and literate in both languages. I know how to adapt depending on the setting so if you walk up to me speaking Spanish no I will not complain about stereotypes because speaking Spanish is a representation of my dual culture because I am Mexican-american not just Latina
I didn' t know for some of them, but Jodie foster her french is not horrible as she states in italian, it is very good!!
Jodie foster her french is so good. Damn, Best french ive heard an american speak.
you can say "I have fungus" in french and it would still sound amazing
LOL! It's the same thing with French. French grammar remains the same no matter what francophone country you come from. However no 2 French speaking country have the same accent/way of talking, and even within the same country it may differ.
