  • In typical hybrid fashion, the 2023 Kia Sportage did not meet its EPA rating. It did however still exceed 30mpg, which isn't terrible for an AWD SUV.

    For the climate/media controls, you can have them default to media after a few seconds if you pick that option in the settings. I'm guessing not a lot of reviewers or journalist know about this since they leave it out of their complaints about the system. Would prefer the system functioned separately but you can make it easier for yourself if you wanted to try.

    Got the car with 21 miles on it. The first 1000 miles I was showing 34.1mpg average. Recent highway trip had my reading down to 29.4. After a couple days back in city, I have it back into the low 30’s. I live in central PA with loads of mts and rolling hills, so it seems to be under all the time.

    This one of those cars that is better for city driving, as most hybrids are, since on the highway it’s not getting enough use if both the battery and the engine. Also, if you hold down the star “button” where the HVAC and radio controls are, and set one to default, it’ll stay there so you don’t have to keep switching back and forth.

    Any gas savings would be negated by overpaying the inflated prices at your local Kia dealer. Consider all aspects of the vehicle to determine real world value to you. Makes no sense to pay in some cases thousands over MSRP to save hundreds in gas costs.

    Just looking at other hybrids as I have a Ford maverick hybrid . Surprised they rate it 38 city and highway. Typically highway is less not more or the same. I am in NY and top speed limit is 65. I have done 68 mph and get about 38 mpg all highway. If I keep it lower which most of the time i am at 60 mph I get 40. Highway is always less for me. I am in the mid 40 range otherwise. BUT mine is FWD only. Yours must be AWD. Plus does Kia use electric motor on rear drive or is there a drive shaft? Not sure what kind of transmission Kia uses. Mine is a direct copy of toyota's E-cvt planetary gear drive. I like it. So I wonder what you get overall driving say 50 percent highway and city?

    • @ATRichard
      @ATRichard 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@rickteixeira3585☝🏾Came here to say this. Hybrid is *supposed* to be more efficient, but really it appears as if it’s just more “sporty” than the gas model (faster 0-60 times - but no one buys these kinda cars for 0-60 anyways…). Gas model Sportage has a bigger tank and therefore can cruise longer. Also, like was mentioned in the video, hybrids don’t fare as well when it comes to highway driving and cruising. AND it was cold outside in this video, which further affects fuel economy.
      It’s best to know what type of driver you are. If you do a lot of highway miles, the all-gas Sportage will be best for you. If you’re a city dweller, a hybrid/PHEV will suit you better.

It usually reads around 30-32 average mpg, some days it drops to 19 (even on cruise!) and I get bummed out not knowing what I did differently. The other day it read 44 mpg and I got so excited I took a picture.

    Man, this is not a "pretty good number"... It has a BAD consumption for the money you pay for this car !
    In Europe we drive normally with 140 km/hour on the high way, and this car is doing 10-12 litres/100 km only gasoline... and THAT IS VERY BAD !!
    If would have a larger battery giving 100 km on electric... that would be decent....

    • @nixnet83
      @nixnet83 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      for most EU its 120-130km/h or 74-80mph. my personal testing shows that after initial 6000km and an engine oil change, the consumption improves a bit. If You want to get the best out of this car or any other Hyundai/KIA hybrid you have to pay attention to the energy flow screen and battery level. My current strategy is to drive around 120km/h until the battery reaches 75% - then usually the car computer decides that the accumulated energy should be spent. If that happens at around 120-130, the engine will drive on electric only until the energy drops to 70% (not much...) and the cycle repeats. If You drop the speed to 110km/h the electric engine will run much longer by itself - until around 50% of charge meter, and start the ICE engine again.
      I know how that sounds to a person that expected to not have to adjust their driving after buying a hybrid, but that is basically how it works - you drive the car using ICE to add battery charge, and then you should use that charge. Rinse and repeat. The only problem is that with Sportage HEV the electric-only driving at high speed is very short. My previous Kia Niro didn't have a problem when running on electric engine at 140km/h until 30% of battery charge was left.
      Also the driving style matters a lot - few days ago I was getting about 7.8-8.1L/100km doing 120km/h with internal combustion, and 110 with electric engine, and yesterday I switched seats with my wife - she constantly floors the pedal, turns and stops harshly and the consumption went to 9.5-10L/100km when going 140km/h. In my opinion the additional fuel consumption isn't really worth it for maybe 20-30minutes of time gained.
