Tye didn't really commit to passing the guard. Instead, he just kept going around and defending any leg attacks, disengaging when he saw the slightest risk. Mica on the other hand, kept trying to attack from the guard, but that's hard to do when the other guy just keeps pulling out. It's ridiculous that Tye got the win. Given Tye's "run away strategy", Mica's attempt to keep him in the closed guard towards the end was smart. He knew that if he opened the guard for a second, Tye would escape and go back to his round about routine.
I you watch it all back at 0.25x speed maybe you'll notice Tye being the aggressor here. You can't expect him to jump in head first. Mica clearly was just waiting and baiting the whole match

I'm glad I didn't watch the whole match. I could tell by just watching the first minute that both were passive, and trying not to lose as opposed to trying to win. Skipped to the end and sure enough I was right. Saved myself 30 minutes of boredom.

Alunos do André mais ou menos né pq ele compra os caras novos na faixa roxa já ganhando tudo e promove os caras pra marrom e preta mas os caras nem treinam lá com ele quase. É diferente do danaher q recebe muito aluno formado mas o cara treina direto la com ele e ele transforma o cara. E quando ele forma aluno o cara de azul já tá dando trabalho pra todo mundo.. Os routolos já eram fenômenos muito antes de irem pra atos e o estilo de jogo deles é o msm o André não lapidou nada só foi promovendo conforme eles iam ganhando tudo.

Every time I saw it I wanted to smack the fucker in the face, I’m sure Mica wanted to do the same as well. So cheap and dirty move, but we gotta agree it’s working - irritating af and makes you angry. Not sure I would shake hands after this, so props to Mica for high class sportsmanship.
The thing is, if Tye knew this was a white belt, would he not enter into that north south? Would he not try to really pass? Would he not really engage in the single and takedowns? There should be tiebreak with escapes or points at some time in the match. What’s the point of making a 30 min fight where everybody knows both sides will be stalling till the very end because they don’t want to commit.
The mouth covering thing is strange. Might be better to make it illegal, not sure. You can't give points based on that. It takes zero skill. I honestly don't get why ruotolo won. The only thing he did that was aggressive was covering mica's mouth. What else did he do? The rules have to change if you want to give the judges a way to make a proper decision.they need a way to make a decision or to force action. Maybe start in alternating positions. Hard to decide for sure. Maybe longer match to tire them out more to instigate mistakes and risk taking.
