Without a doubt, Mica has a difficult guard to pass. We just saw it and Dante was in trouble with Mica's guard game. It's fantastic.

To all that thought Dante won, he didn’t do any attacks. He sat in Mica’s half guard and pretty much just defended attacks the whole match. He had nothing but wrestling takedowns and did nothing to pass Micas guard. Mica basically could stand up at will.
Just play half guard and do nothing just like pena vs nicky rod. Utter nonsense that takedowns mean nothing
@@Black-Circle mica did nothing?? He had the only submission attempt, a very close one at that, along with a sweep. When it came down to it Dante couldn’t even keep him down consistently. He was very passive as soon as the match was on the ground

If your half guard bottom is so good that you can get up at will, then get up take top position and punish a stalling top player

Impressed with Dante staying on top??? Hey, Mica was playing guard in this match... you know... Jiu jitsu... is not only the top position... as a matter of fact, the guard is a really important thing in Jiu Jitsu.
I guess he meant Mica made so many attempts and Dante succeeded to manage them

how do you call the guard at 2:03?
Like what type of guard? It's not a legit guard really, Dante is putting him in a headquarters position which is meant to neutralize an opponent's guard. Headquarters opens up a load of passing options and controls the opponent, stapling their back to the mat. Mica is doing his best to work a loose de la riva game from it, ideally create space to open up some de la riva attacks or switch to another guard.
I'd like to know too, it looks kind of like just a smashed DLR.

A lot of high level guard passers can force the head quarters position quite easily, especially in nogi, so guard players are getting really good at defending it. They make sure to keep the top knee in front of the opponent's hips to keep the distance and denying the smash pass, while controlling the other leg at the knee pit in a way that allows them to put in the reverse de la riva hook if the opponent decides to go for the knee slide. If they are able to entangle the leg even more they can also start to set up attacks, like the false reap and the matrix.

One thing I've never understood is when elite grapplers keep attempting the same exact failed sequences or passes over and over in a match. There's a distinct lack of versatility that so many grapplers have which is what separates the high level grapplers from the elite

@@hardcoreromeo2111I think what he was referring towards was that throughout the match, Dante pretty much only relied on trying to force the inside pass & knee cut Mica, which couldn’t seem to get any real sort of threat to Mica’s game and that he could have maybe tried to mix It up and try to initiate some different kinds of passes that rely more on outside passing (although it sounds good on paper I understand that passing Micas guard from the outside also isn’t necessarily easy 😂)

O evento não tem pontuação... em caso de empate, vence quem atacou mais, criando mais possibilidades de finalização. Se as quedas fossem contar mais do que os ataques, vc acha que ele levaria esses single leg caindo igual um banana assim ? 😂😂

@@Nick_Tank Craig Jones said recently in a video (about the 5 nogi athletes who are being sanctioned by USADA) that a very "famous, young gi athlete tested positive at gi worlds and has elected to go through arbitration to try to settle the positive result". Felipe Pena did the same thing, and it took 2 years before we heard of his positive result. Craig said that we can "speculate" based on who continues to compete in IBJJF events and who does not -- currently, we have not seen Mica compete in IBJJF since the World Championships, so many are speculating Craig is talking about him.

The second one wasn't a takedown, it was mica pulling guard... He could try to defend the takedown or engage pulling guard, he choses the latter.

Judges watched a different match than I did. Dante dominated the pace and had multiple takedown. Only thing Mica did was try an armbar that was defended by Dante very easily.
