You watched the special extended edition (with added scenes), so some parts would be unfamiliar to you, if you had just watched the original. In fact, the extended edition did have a theatrical release and I was lucky to see it in 3D on the biggest IMAX screen in the UK, the same screen that I had seen the original version a number of times. I have seen the sequel at the same location (they have recently upgraded the projectors and the screen - so the experience has been improved) on a number of occasions and it's a visual masterpiece and I think that the story is a definite improvement over the original. So, if anyone is reading this, who hasn't yet seen the sequel, watch it on the biggest screen that you can travel to and in 3D, of course I would always recommend IMAX 3D.
In 2154, the natural resources of the Earth have been depleted. The Resources Development Administration (RDA) mines the valuable mineral unobtanium on Pandora, a moon in the Alpha Centauri star system. Pandora, whose atmosphere is inhospitable to humans, is inhabited by the Na'vi, 10-foot-tall (3.0 m), blue-skinned, sapient humanoids that live in harmony with nature. To explore Pandora, genetically matched human scientists use Na'vi-human hybrids called "avatars". They needed to learn and gain the Na'vi's trust to relocate them to a better place cause they wanted to harvest the Unobtanium which could fund them for years of research and materials. However in ATWOW, earth was already a goner and they started building cities on Pandora, so called turning Pandora into Earth 2.0 by destroying every living creature and habitats so they could build cities.
