Brooke saying that Taylor is the "grown up" that Ridge needs confirms what I've always said: that Tridge feels like an adult relationship whereas Bridge feels more like a YA romance. This is actually a lovely scene between Brooke and Taylor and I'm sorry we didn't get to see more of this. It's a pity that HT left and the story structure changed forever (and not for the better). Also there's just something about seeing the main characters played by the original actors interacting this way. It's especially notable in comparison to scenes with Rick and Amber that feel flimsy and weightless. They just can't hold the screen the way the veterans do. It's not even about acting talent - it's about carrying yourself like an adult and being comfortable with people you've been in scenes with for over a decade.
Even if I don't like the purpose of the scene, that is clearly another mini redemption for Brooke, you're right. The old characters were the B&B. That's probably why Brad wanted HT again on the show but he failed changing her character. I know the two ladies were not friends and they didn't need to be to work together. They also shared the most (in) famous soap triangle people loved so much.

If the show had to go in the direction of "killing" off Taylor (one of Bell's greatest missteps) it might actually have made more sense to bring back Margo Lynly as a love interest for Ridge. It would make total sense given that her son is now a character on the show, and she's connected to so many of the legacy characters. Imagine the kind of rivalries that could be built and rebuilt between her and characters like Brooke and Stephanie. And she already has complex relationship dynamics at play with many of the men on the show (Ridge, Eric and Clarke). Even with a different actress in the role, it would work. In fact, I'd rather see the return of the full Mclaine family, than a family like the Marones who are just there to fully retcon the show's DNA.
I never did warm up to the Marones. They were a constant reminder of Ridge's retconned paternity, and they replaced the Spectras. Both these things were disastrous for the show.
