This could be the best tutorial for me for beginner. easy to understand and so very basic.
I was thinking Android Studio was going to be the best app developing software and let me tell you, I don't think I could recommend ANY software less than I can that! Definitely the worse interface I've ever used, was not user friendly! Also, the hoops you have to jump through to attach your devices was not easy getting started! Then the IDE has a nasty bug to where you cannot edit code. Whew, going from that to seeing the simplicity of this, it just made me feel very relieved!

Thanks, but I have a few suggestions... If I make a xamarin app in Visual Studio 2017, my project is little bit different from the project in the tutorial.
I have RelativeLayout, instead of LinearLayout. You have to change it, trust me!
Also have to set up the orientation of your LinearLayout, with this line: android:orientation="vertical".
After that, your axml will be working fine, as you see in this tutorial!
Can you send the linearlayout code?

Blank App shows F#. Which is not want we want. Either create Mobile App (C#, Xamarin.Forms Cross Platform and used in this tutorial) or Android App (C#, Xamarin, Android only and not used in this tutorial).

Add a declaration of an int variable and name it number for this to work. Also build the project to access the UI elements.

Number = 0, it is not declared, but when you declare an int and you do not give it a value he will be zero, this will help you understand the lambda expression.
Put number =0 before it's declaration.
Yes, you corrected. He forgot declared the integer Number and it's must initial to zero first.

that was the best tutorial I've seen since 2006. but I wish there's continuation up to deployment of this app on a real device. i wonder, does the bin folder of this project contain a APK? or there's a lot more things to do?

I will probably do a continuation as you suggest - thanks for the idea! Getting the APK is not as simple as going to the bin folder. You have to "archive" the project and sign it - but that's pretty simple. I can only add one Element. After it's not allowed to put another Element. At least not from the Toolbox. I can add a Button via XAML but can't formate it below the Text
Edit: Found it. Make sure in the xaml you have instead of and add android:orientation="vertical" into the LinearLayout markup

Anyone know what about when you're creating multiple menu systems? Do you save different layouts as "pages" bound to different classes you call through C# and each new "page" called replaces the last?
I've never used xml and I'm only familiar with object oriented Basic and video game development C#.
Going off of ancient pseudo code, I would probably develop each page as a class with some sort of trigger variable I kept in the main update loop. But the layout has to be displayed so the XML must be executed. Probably running that hand in hand with the C# handling the logic. Now when a user say presses a button to move to a new menu, the button press would trigger the page counter and the C# would update, calling the new page based on what the variable calls for. This new page is called, bringing the XML with it, and the new layout xml is executed.
Can anyone tell me if I'm close here? I haven't programmed in like a decade and I'm trying to get my bearings on how much I would need to learn again to get back into the dev scene. If I'm close, it would mean I'm not too far gone and I would feel better about the daunting task of getting back on the bike. Lol.
