  • Well, I simply couldn't find Zugló. It was wild. Everywhere I looked, Zugló wasn't. I found herminamező, I found Törökőr, I found Alsórákos, I even found Nagyzugló and Kiszugló, but no Zugló!!! That was until a friendly couple of Zuglóvians informed me that all of district XIV is in fact Zugló. Duh! Well, despite the revelation of my idiocy I was glad for the news as this meant the whole domain was there to explore. And explore we did. We took a trip around Bosnyak Tér, stopped by the famous market (which is apparently closing next year!!! egy tragikus!!! ), we met friendly locals, ran around like a lunatic criss crossing Fat Louie street, downed a fröccs at the Oazis Söröző, gathered our wits, roamed the streets, popped through the stunning Japanese Garden, downed a Sacher Torta, and finished things off with a liter of beer at the Ypsilon Cafe. I have to say, Zugló is a great god damn place. I can't believe it took me so long to properly explore. Thank you so much everyone, you inspire me to do what I love. I'm not crying, you're crying ....
Are you ready to discover a hidden gem in the heart of Hungary? Look no further than Zugló, a vibrant district that is sure to surprise and delight you at every turn.
First things first, let's address the elephant in the room - Zugló can be a little tricky to find. In fact, when I first arrived in the area, I couldn't find it anywhere! But after chatting with some friendly locals, I learned that Zugló is actually an entire district, XIV to be exact. And let me tell you, there's a lot to explore here.
One of the highlights of my trip to Zugló was exploring the Bosnyak Tér market, which is a must-visit for any foodie. From traditional Hungarian dishes to international cuisine, the market offers a tantalizing array of flavors and aromas that will leave your taste buds begging for more. Just make sure you visit soon, as I was informed that the market will be closing next year - egy tragikus, indeed.
As I wandered through the streets of Zugló, I couldn't help but be struck by the stunning architecture that surrounds you at every turn. From ornate buildings to cozy cafes, there's no shortage of sights to take in. And while the district is certainly bustling, with locals going about their daily lives, it also has a laid-back vibe that is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of larger cities.
But perhaps the best part of my trip to Zugló was connecting with the locals. From friendly couples to groups of kids playing football in the streets, the residents of Zugló are eager to welcome visitors into their community. And whether you're enjoying a fröccs at the Oazis Söröző or indulging in a slice of Sacher Torta, you'll find that the locals are always happy to share their favorite spots and insider tips.
So if you're looking for an adventure that's off the beaten path, I highly recommend a trip to Zugló. It may take a little effort to find, but trust me, it's well worth the journey. With its vibrant culture, stunning architecture, and friendly locals, Zugló is a hidden gem that is just waiting to be discovered.

Dude I used to live a few blocks away from the location where the video picks up from on Amerikai út, for about 8 years or so. Didn't expect to see such a nostalgic place right off the bat. Props!

I think the whole Rákospatak could be a very hilarious tour. The best part is in Kőbánya, but the Zugló part is beautiful too.

There are also the beautiful old mansions, used as embassy buildings near the city park. That's Zugló too.
Thanks for showing the Japanese Garden, I might visit that soon. There are three Japanese gardens in Budapest. This, the Margarite island one, and the Zoo garden.

Nice job! I live in Törökőr since 2001 but I can still discover something new here every day. In Törökőr, many things are preserved in the memory of Bulgarian gardeners, even perhaps the Japanese garden and the secondary school of horticulture! I remember working Bulgarian garden in 80's where You can buy tomato and fruits!

It is sad to hear that the Bosnyák téri piac (market) will be demolished. When I was a kid I often went there with my grandma who used to live in Zugló and she was selling bulbs (dughagyma) at the market. That time - back in the 70s - one could buy living animals (chickens, ducks, pigeons, rabbits) there. Nice memories...

check out Normafa as well sometime
you can come up with fogas from jános kórház.
there is anna field, the erzsébet look-out tower, a small chapel, a kossuth statue and on the other side of the hill the kisvasút ( small train across the woods from the communist era) and the makkos mária temple around budakeszi.
Times are changing but you can still find a lot of old sváb hunter mansions on the streets of isten hegy-sváb hegy-széchenyi hegy.

@@withwillie there are some normafa groups on face where they usually share awesome vintage and blck-whte photos but beside of that there is always vvikiped.
there are tons of embassies and churches/ schools worth the visit like zugligeti school at the end of harang völgy ( bell valley ), diana school at sváb hegy ( not the second diana school at orbán tér ) or the church down at virányos-kurucz lesi ut ( Szent Család-plébániatemplom ).
there is also a very old station ( lóvasút ) after virányos, on the way to the libegő (chair-lift ) which is right next to the USA embassy and what takes you right to the foot of the look-out tower and on the way up, it will take you above the tündér szikla ( fairy cliff ). a lot of stuff and buildings worth checking out.
if youre finally up at anna rét, you should eat some rétes as well.
      its awesome.

You've missed me with two bus stops :) I'm living in Zugló, two stops from Bosnyák tér. At Kassai tér to be precise. Zugló is not that tidy, clean and nice as it was when i moved here from XVI. district ( Sashalom) in 1996. And sadly it began to deteriate. They say Bosnyák tér reconstruction will start soon™. Here where i live, lies a big effing casino... just what the community needed... :/ Tbh i will move as soon as i can from here, to probably some quiet, outer northern Buda district (III. probably) or agglomeration. Even if i have to live further from work and have to travel more or use less infrastructure. Have good wandering Willie, looking forward on next videos!
