She handled the pressure and did such a great job when it was the most important. I am very happy for her and Italy also. It was so cool to see her so happy and on that day, in that final, she earned it.

You don't have to be an Italian to know the two sisters of Alice D'amato and Asia D'amato are elite gymnasts, with really high skills. They're just always competing against some very elite GENERALISTS from the US and SPECIALISTS from China. Plus the occasional exceptions like Andrade from Brazil...
Fact is, any of the Top 10 or so COULD win the Gold, on individual apparatuses, if the top fall... especially on the beam, where 100% of all gymnasts, from the bottom to the top ranked COULD fall on any jump! Because other than Biles, most of the top 8 or so have scores that, when all perform their very best, are just one or a few 10ths of percentage points away from each other.
BTW, what happened to Asia? I saw her in the Tokyo Olympics (4th in the AA team?) but not this Paris one (which won the Silver in the AA team)...

    • @靖理
      @靖理 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@kiabtoomlauj6249 Emmm, the best 8 will get to the event finals. There's no need to add "other than Biles" because including Biles, depending on the event, the scores can be very close.
For this beam final, the top qualifiers' difficulty score:
      Zhou Yaqin 6.6
      Simone Biles 6.4
      Rebeca Andrade, Sabrina Voinea 6.1
      .......
      Alice D'Amato 5.6
Emm....... as a fan of the sport, it's just very sad that in the event final most athletes can't perform their best. It's just hard to watch, it became somewhat like a competition of luck rather than skills and talent.

Congratulations to Alice! Great video. In one of Simone's interviews she said that it was a very strange atmosphere of silence at the beam final. The althetes had asked for music to be playing in the background but didn't get it. Gymcastic said that there was actual shushing from audience members. She asked a French person what was going on. That person said that beam is considered an art form in France and the audience should be silent like as if in a museum. It seemed to rattle the athletes who are used to a sports like atmosphere with cheering and music in the background. One of the girls said that it was so silent you could hear the flashing of the cameras and cell phones going off. Alice must have nerves of steel.

Many of the videos used for the comparison with older exercises were actually performed by her twin sister Asia.
Alice doesn’t do the side somi, Asia does. Alice doesn’t do the switch 1/2, Asia does.
The same goes for the mount, Alice used to do a front tuck, but in the recent years she started to the the switch leap, and for the dismount is the same thing: Alice does two and a half twists, but in the past did triple twists. Asia is the one that does the double pike
The analysis is good nonetheless, and I understand that is kinda hart to tell them apart

Yes!! Her twin was part of the Italian team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic, but she had a really rough couple of years
She injured her foot during the European vault final of euro 2022( just a couple of days after she won the AA)
She recovered and started competing again but tore her ACL in 2023
Again she recovered and made her comeback in march of 2024 only to tear her ACL again during the European championships.
If she didn’t injure herself again she might have made the team with Alice
They did some additional tests and apparently there was some issue in her foot ( from the first big injury) that limited her mobility, she will undergo surgery again in September to fix this, and she said that she will try to make the 2028 Olympic team with Alice

Of the Americans, I like Suni’s beam the most. Normally a very clean routine. That being said, Alice completed a very beautiful routine, the stuck landing was the cherry on top. @靖理 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Rebecca is very good on vault and floor, while her routine on beam is not the hardest.
For reference, difficulty score (qualification round) :
      Zhou Yaqin 6.6
      Simone Biles 6.4
      Rebeca Andrade, Sabrina Voinea 6.1
Alice D'Amato, Manila Esposito, Júlia Soares 5.6
After a lot of gymnasts falls, Rebeca performed her routine a bit more cautious and she missed a few connections so her final score has a lowered difficulty score 5.7.
Yaqin still got 6.6 d-score, but her hands touched the beam for balancing so the execution score is lowered.
Alice has perform well comparatively and improved her d-score to 5.8 with 8.566 e-score so she won.
Honestly, the judges of this EF were rather generous on e-score.

This was the worst event finals day at the Olympics I’ve ever seen. Congrats to the winners who did there job. If I had tickets I would have left disappointed.

These competitions are ridiculous. She did not fall on the ONE day it mattered. That does NOT make her the BEST! Her low difficulty routine is hardly worthy of a GOLD MEDAL! 😔😩

@@funshine817 respectfully, on that day, it does make her the best. It is part of the game to handle the pressure and perform in the competition. I agree with you that there are better gymnast in the world on Beam. if they competed and did the finals all over again, there’s a good chance the results would all be different. On that day, she performed the best. Thanks and all my best.

@@funshine817 it is the same in many sports. The World Series in baseball, the Super Bowl in football, the World Cup. Even the best teams may be defeated if they have a bad day on that day.

Whenever an Olympic gold medal is won due to another competitor making a mistake, it just doesn’t feel right. I want everyone or at least the top medal contenders to hit their routines. THAT should decide who wins and not someone messing up. The bars and vault finals were amazing for example, as opposed to the awful beam and floor finals. Sure, Alice deserved gold on that day, but it’s definitely not a final I wanna watch again. And the winning routine will definitely not be added to the greatest Olympic beam routines of all time.

When there are so many mistakes by the favored gymnasts, you never know what is going to happen. most would not consider Alice to win but also most would not think Simone, Suni and Zhou would all fall or have major mistakes. The beam final was very all over the place.

Her movements on the beam are far more elegant than the other athlete's and she hasn't fallen off the beam. It's called balance beam, you know. The most important thing is to have balance

I believe it's 100% deserved being the one who completed fhe routine without major mistakes which others did. Being the most popular and the most expected to win doesn't mean you deserve to win.

First rule of the balance beam, don't fall out of the balance beam.
