    Ecthelion of the Fountain single-handedly slayed 3 Balrogs before loosing his life slaying Gothmog, Lord of the Balrogs. This was after hours of fighting and being wounded, Ecthelion needs some love! Even the cry of his name made the entire attacking army stop momentarily. Ecthelion! Destroyer of Balrogs! Pretty sure the Gondolins survivers would never have made it out without Ecthelion.

    Balrogs riding Dragons? Holy shit that's badass. I remember Peter Jackson mentioning that in passing in one of the commentaries of the Hobbit Trilogy Extended Editions, but he didn't mention that happening in the Fall of Gondolin.

      Gondolin, osgilath, armor, Rivendale, numenor, and minas tirith etc are all beautiful places and more just seeing if in real life would be awestruck and unspeakable sight to see 🥰, I had a dream once that I was a immortal god being with super strength like superman, super speed and flight, could heal anything and anyone with a touch make things come alive with a touch , turn anything or anyone to any creature I wanted and could shoot solar beams out of my hands etc and brought enlightenment and prosperity to middle earth after sauron died, I tamed Shelob by beating her up and the people of Gondor had a huge supply of spider silk to make elaborate fine clothes, dresses, shirts, pants , hats and rope and tapestries and it's spider silk it made their clothes bullet proof basically being safer if attacked and made gondor more wealthy and went to moria to help clear out the orcs for the dwarves to recolonize it and Killed the watcher lake monster at moria and brought it to gondor and people had a big feast eating lots of sushi that night and boy did they feast and for some reason they teriyaki, orange and Wassabi sauces but I couldn't eat it 🤢, so i asked them to just cook me a whole beef cow filling a table full of beef etc with a pile of melted cheese, ale and pipe weed and we celebrated , Me and Gandalf had a blowing smoke contest with our smoke pipes, and just watching the people live simply, happy and blessed lives made me feel happy and content and I'll come around once every few months or so with mighty catches I get from strong monsters and creatures giving to them to feast on, make fine furs and clothes, jewelry etc, or find a big stash of gold, jewels or metals that I find or mine and so forth and so forth just living as middle earth protector and sustainer lol 😎😙

    Oh, how is it said? There are wolves and there are sheep... but there is yet another kind: the wolf-hound. Sometimes, what might have been a mighty aggressor chooses instead to be a guardian. Tuor and Glorfindel made this choice, to serve and protect and drive back and defeat the destroyers, even if they might also seem to fall with the foe. Upon licking the wounds of harsh times, or when such wounds are renewed to new health after long contemplations among the spirits of the dead, these guardians return in various forms to once again defend the people, whether in their own body or in the manifestation of their descendants.
    In the LotR, there were two unblemished and deliberate heroes of this kind, Aragorn and Glorfindel. Aragorn was the descendant, and Glorfindel was the returned. No power of darkness could stand against their fate, for they had embraced the highest calling to preserve and return in their own being, regardless of histories or artifices. It was by their own souls that they truly worked, not by forged enhancements. This purity of calling, not imposed upon them but rather taken up deliberately as choice, is what made them unstoppable.
    Each guardian must choose their final outcome. Glorfindel returned on a grey ship to heaven as the eternal champion. Aragorn remained with his subjects as the mortal caretaker and inspirer of later generations. Of these two, one is not greater than the other, for each had found a way to reach beyond the limitations of life and death. When we find ourselves in battle against the evils of the world, let us accept that we may choose either path, and in either way we apply ourselves to what is beyond self or time, fulfilling all that fate has offered us. The virtue is not just in the appearances, but rather in the decision to carry on.

    Pretty cool to learn that Sting (Bilbo/Frodo's sword) was forged in Gondolin and survived utter destruction. I love how even if you don't know of the Silmarillion or other unfinished works... Little pockets of middle earth history show up in the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Balrogs of Morgoth, Grond, Earendil, Glorfindel being a war hero and slaying a powerful balrog, Including jewels, and heirlooms that span millennia of history find themselves into the main story.

    There's just one thing about Gondolin that just doesn't make sense to me: For a city with a location that was meant to be a secret from Morgoth and his forces, Gondolin was very close the Anfauglith, the large desert plain that lay immediately south of Morgoth's fortress of Angband. Why was this?

  • @Ronirvan
    @Ronirvan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If I could make a suggestion, there is a Tolkien book that is highly undervalued, its book called 'On Fairy-Stories' an essay which discusses the fairy-story as a literary form. In that book, Tolkien talks about narrative, story lines, and other authors, points of view regarding fairy tales and stories related to them. It is an eye-opener for writers like me and also a window to Tolkien's mind on the subject of fairy tails.

    If the Eagles were the guardians of the Encircling mountains, After Manwe himself had given the eagles the task of keeping watch on Morgoth, why then was there no warning as the forces of Morgoth approached Gondolin? Wouldn't the eagles have spotted the Armies of Morgoth as they approached Gondolin and warned Turgon of their approach? I have always wondered about this. If the eagles had warned Gondolin of their danger, wouldn't the outcome have been different? Also, why didn't the eagles do all they could to defend the elves of Gondolin? After all, the eagle fought at the Battle of Five Armies in the Hobbit, and they also fought at the last battle with Aragorn in the LOTR's.

    Nice one I read the silmarillion probably like 100 * I think you have the dates wrong though the first age began many hundreds of years before Gondolin was built. Elediel was born in the year 507 of Gondolin. Year one being the first year that Gondolin was to become a city

    Gondolin is basically Switzerland in real world. Always neutral even when war is raging all around. Hidden in the mountains. Absolutely beautiful landscape.

    A fun idea for an alternate story. What if during the war of wrath, instead of hiding in his mines, Morgoth strode forth along the battlefield with his dragons. I mean, we barely see him in combat at all, and from what I read during his fight with Fingolfin, he was a monster to behold. So, what if during the final battle of the 1st age, he strode forth atop one of his winged dragons to face his brothers and sisters for the fate of Arda. Plus I think a duel between Morgoth and another Valar (maybe Manwe or Tulkas ) would be a great addition. Plz

    Not ashamed to admit I teared up when watching this, The Fall of Gondolin is pure poetry and the sheer extensiveness of this battle is overwhelming! It also shows that elves were pretty badass in the fact that they fought Morgoth's demons head on and slayed a few, selflessly sacrificing themselves in the process.

    The Tale of the Fall of Gondolin also shows that the life of the people is more important than the city. In the end, Turgon was too proud to realise that and as a consequence fell with his city, buried beneath the remnants of his own palace. Idril on the other hand was far more concerned with the safety of her people, so she built her secret escape tunnel. Ecthelion's and Glorfindel's sacrifice and Tuor's deeds were indeed heroic , the Fall of Gondolin could've been far more disastrous if it wasn't for Idril's foresight
