    Had the pleasure to meet and chat with Zane this past Sunday at Los Cab in Orange County. An absolute class act of a guy that took the time to chat for several minutes about India and some non-pickleball stuff. Watched him a play a couple of games with his partner Travis. Great stuff and will definitely be rooting for his continued success in the future.

    Love this, Zane! Regarding the baseball bat analogy, yes, the below-MLB leagues (College all the way down to Little League) use metal bats, BUT, they also created BBCOR bats which lower the exit velocity of metal bats because they were super dangerous to pitchers. I submit that many amateur players, including myself, do not enjoy playing against the hot paddles like the Gearbox Pro...it changes the game for the worse for us too!

      Agree 100%!!! This crazy push for more and more power is making the game worse. It is driven by the manufacturers and PPA and USAP need to step up and take control of the sport with spin and power regulations before it gets worse and as we see it is getting worse by the day.

    I hope they don't just limit the paddles used by the pros. They may need it for more entertaining games but amateurs need paddle limits for safety reasons and, arguably, more fun as well. And Dan is right--we don't need an arm's race in paddle speed. $280 for a paddle that doesn't last a year is ridiculous.

    Still waiting for my "pre-Ordered" Skins. Hoping to be able to bring back some of my smooth faced paddles. Hoping they are delivered this week Dan.
    Patents are expensive, so costs will reflect that.
    I'm wanting to go with Zane on better control and spin. I want to shape a pickleball like a ping pong ball.
    The robot for paddle swinging (like for golf glubs) is the ideal way to measure. Chris has a type of radar gun that also measures spin.
    Great to hear Dan speak on the "tech" of paddles Looking forward to more from PKKL.

    The problem with "self regulating" is there will always be that company that is willing to go outside the "standards" to sell paddles. And if the governing body of paddle manufacturers has no authority at actual events, then its all for nothing

    Do they have to be thermoformed? My analysis showed a significant statistical difference in power and pop when comparing thermoformed and non-thermoformed data. Raw data source comes from John Kew's database and if anyone wants to see that I'm more than happy to share. What does this mean? A pro player can generate plenty of power on their own - so they will do fine with sandwich paddles. When my old shoulder needs a boost - I'd like to get a little help from the paddle.

  • @raybrown1892
    @raybrown1892 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    PPA and USAP need to team up and decide on the testing technology and set a box for spin and power. Do not let the paddle companies decide on the direction of the game as they are now. Remember, their goal is to sell paddles, so we see the push for more and more powerful paddles and new and innovative technologies to keep folks buying new paddles. I get it, they want to make money, but not at the expense of the game. Once the boxes for spin and power are set, then they can develop newer technologies, but they have to fit in the box of limitations. It makes no sense to allow the paddle companies to get together and set the standards. This is not their sport, they are manufactures of equipment to be used in the sport and the equipment needs to be regulated.

  • @VividTape

    We all know the majority of sponsored pros get special paddles, which are not the ones available to the public. Sucks we have to be at a place like this in pickleball, greed has ruined the sport

    I hate to say it but it's going to take a top player getting eye damage from a strong hit to their face before any paddle tech is controlled. Zane is 100% correct about the baseball analogy, pros don't need the best possible technology to hit hard and add spin

      The whiners at this time out weight the innovators. 3500 rpm would make the game so much more interesting! Everyone is trying to turn the guys game into what the women’s game is, can’t imagine what the women’s game will turn into, or will they allow the women to use Gen 3 paddles and men Gen 1 and please don’t let athletic people play rec games….or they will have to play Gen 1 paddles and non athletic Gen 3 paddles.. everyone gets a participation medal for playing!

  • @rinab9876

    If they really want to limit the power on the paddles, why wouldn’t they use a metric like smash factor on golf clubs : the ratio of swing speed to ball speed? Clubs are limited to 1.5, why can’t paddles have the same type of limit? Surely a golf simulator that can measure spin, swing speed, ball speed, etc should be able to translate to a pickleball swing, right?
