This is one of the best interviews in the game. Loved James’ honesty about his departure from tennis at Vandy and his subsequent transition into Pickleball. Great story. The conversations about the game were insightful. James is a great guest. But this conversation starts with Jordan’s solid questions. Thanks to both of you.
Awesome! I love watching James. I’m 64, just started playing pickleball in Nov & I’m obsessed! I play for hours most everyday! I tell everyone about both of you. I’ve learned SO much watching Jordan’s videos and just love James’ sincerity & the his obvious love of the game.
Great player, great interview. After this interview, I picked up a dumbell and did some wrist workouts. Just a reminder we still want Quang Duong if you can nab him at some point.
The clinic I took with James and Ryan was excellent. I continue to learned a lot about pickleball from Briones pickleball YT, and listening to James podcast.
Always been a fan of Jordan. Another great podcast. James has a super coaching/teaching podcast. His rise to the top with the current Pros has been amazing. Best of health to you both. Please continue to put out content that helps so many of us striving to be our best.
Awesome podcast! Your ability to ask questions pulled great info out of BPJ. Great insight into technique and nuances of shots and drills to improve those shots. "Riley's grip is wrong" hits hard - bahahaha!
With respect: Jordan needs to work on his listening. I'm 22 mins in and there have been 3 separate times that James says something very clearly and then Jordan says "but not ???"
Great pod I'm a huge fan of James. Such a unique personality you never know what he's going to say. Best interview in Pickleball. Rumor has it Federico is going to play with Matt and James is going to play with Pablo. Interesting to know how that swap took place.
Great interview and I enjoy both of your podcasts. That said, I hate playing mix because, in order to win, you have to pick on the female opponent and be ruthless to her, which is against human nature.
Okay, so regarding your sponsor Selkirk at 22:45… I’ve used four different paddles since mid January. The first two were entry level junk, but they got me by. My third paddle I owned (Holbrook) I fell in love with & used it for at least a month now. The Holbrook paddle improved my game considerably. I just figured that the Holbrook would take me as far as I ever needed to go. But last night I used a Selkirk Luxx Control Air - Epic that my Wife acquired for me in like-new condition for half price for the first time. Let’s just say my game was nearly twice as good instantly. Now I know why Selkirk is currently considered the best. If any other brands come anywhere near what Selkirk is offering, they’ll be doing well. My two cents…
@@BrionesPickleball im not sure its true, but jimmy miller has said he got kicked off utr for lying about matches. I take what he says with a grain of salt though.
Did you cover why he bounces up and down on the court constantly and how that has gotten him into trouble in at least one match? I'm sure he has some stories about comments he's received.
I find it kind of sad James sort of dismisses his fathers record at Uconn as "some track thing" Being able to compete D1 is huge let alone setting a record
"ye so i would just take a weight and do wrist workouts" my dad has been telling me this for years in multiple sports and i always thought "no thats ridiculous" turns out no the results are ridiculous lol
"serve as hard as I can, rip a drive at the girl.... It's very natural for me" 😂😂 Hah ya my man you are right that will make you zero friends in rec play
Sorry, but hard disagree that the "full bag" off the bounce hitting the person in front of you as hard as you can is an ok shot to seek to implement. Felt like Jordan wanted to disagree but wouldn't go there. If pros start using and normalizing full power drives to the body off a bounce in the kitchen as a good shot I can't imagine how bad rec will get.....
Rec players don’t have the control for this shot, also pros are playing for money. It’s a tough call, as I sometimes attack the body, but not at that speed.
@@BrionesPickleball yeah, no issue with a speedup at the hip or even body but the concept of hitting them as hard as you can really only leads to bad things. It seems pros have mainly operated under a good sport agreement to this point but this could open the floodgates. My main concern would still be rec. If the pros normalize this behavior and it trickles down, it will be horrible for the game as injuries rise and people quit playing.

James is a great teacher. Boils it all down to 1 idea you can take to the court immediately and win.

The Chris Olsen comment...3.5 at best... love it
lol
Great interview!!
😊
Love seeing big papa Jimmy on and a fan of his instructional tips on the Selkirk tv videos.

James is amazing . I wanna know re the leg movements . Is it nerves or tactics ?
Not nerves. Their tennis habits
thanks for clarifying @@BrionesPickleball

Pb studio just got roasted by James 😂
Hahaaa
I lost it 😂

lol
Picking on the weakest link and doing what it takes to win might actually be the essence of human nature. I’ll have to disagree with you on this one.

I hope to get one on soon!
👍🏻
CP or Anna Bright would be awesome! Maybe James can hook you up 😉
So is that 3 people Anna has scouted? Iggie? Rachel and Fahey
Yep
Did you cover why he bounces up and down on the court constantly and how that has gotten him into trouble in at least one match? I'm sure he has some stories about comments he's received.
He’s actually stable when he hits the ball, so it doesn’t affect him

It’s a wiffle ball. If it doesn’t hit your eye, you’re fine.
James just goes on and on about himself. Huge ego. His podcast is unlistenable to me. Doing the same here. Turned it off after 10 minutes.
Wow, really? One of the only “real” guys on the tour. I’ve met lots of them.
lol. Guy talks about himself when he’s being interviewed. Imagine!!
