    Hey Jen, Everyone I follow with chickees love the Grub Terra black soldier fly Larva. I see that the chickens love them. No rabbits allowed in my yard I have always had dogs labs and retrievers and they will dispatch rabbits in a hurry. I have not had a dogs for quite a while now and Oh boy are they a problem. 4-5 at a time running from yard to yard.
    You are right about the big black snake it will help control mice and things but they may like your chicken eggs. Great idea to save the soil I save mine spread them on shallow oven tray in the hot sun to sterilize them and put it in clean bags for next year. The dirtier soil goes in to the compost like when pots have had the same soil too long. Keep up the good fight be safe bye for now, Steven

      Hello😊. I saw the black rat snake at Materville where there are no chickens. And at my house we have wire that runs underground and their actual laying nest boxes are about 4 feet off the ground and I haven’t had any trouble with snakes at my house yet

    That vine looks like creeping Charlie. I have some of that in my yard, it loves to take over. Thank goodness it's easy to pull.

      Yes it’s all over that part of the yard. I guess I’ll just have to make sure I’m diligent next year about getting to it before it gets out of hand.

    He was probably under the tarp around the compost pile. They like heat to help digest food. As well as moist dark areas to help shed their skin.

      Yea I’m very cautious around all my compost piles. He also could’ve come from underneath that shed there too. Maybe he just had a groundhog dinner. I haven’t seen that groundhog since seeing that big boy.

    That looked like a rat snake. I had one in my chicken coop. It was laying on top of the long nest box I have that's covered with wire. It's not an aggressive snake and it's not poisoness, just big and shiny with a white belly. But dont want it in my coop!! I took pictures and I wanted to catch it and relocate it, but a cane and a bucket just doesn't work. 😊 if it had been a bull snake, I would not have let live. They are aggressive. I'm not fond of snakes, I don't want to touch them. I let them have their space. If I could figure out how to send you a picture of the rat snake from my phone, I would. I'm not very savvy on the electronic stuff.😂

      It was definitely a black rat snake. We just call them black snakes here. I’m just like you. I don’t mess with them as long as they don’t mess with me. I know they get rid of rodents which is a good thing.

    that vine is creeping charlie and it is a real pain. I spray it with borax and water in the heat of the day you have to do it several times but it does get it

      It’s all over that part of the yard. It makes some really fragrant flowers that the bees seem to love.

    Grub Terra is in NJ not too far from me! Like maybe an hour away! Next time you go by a salon or barber shop get some hair and sprinkle it around where the groundhog is. Most times it’s enough to get them to move on. They smell too much human.

    • @jencordial
      @jencordial  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve heard about the human hair thing. We’ve tried fox urine I think and blocking off the whole uses and that stuff works for a bit, but then stops working and the groundhog is back. But I have to tell you I saw a big black rat snake a couple weeks ago and I haven’t seen the groundhog since so I don’t know if there’s any correlation there.
