If a country is not financially strong and yet want to develop it has no choice but to borrow. If Bangladesh does not borrow from China she has to borrow from others. So debts willl definitely be created. No two ways. Instead of owing to China she is owing to others. Creditors will set terms and conditions which the borrowers will have to consider to the best of their interest. There is not such thing as free lunch. But some will be more sympathic and give better terms and conditions.

In recent times, there has been a noticeable trend of American interventionism, where the pursuit of war and economic interests seem to intertwine. However, China is taking a different approach by extending support to developing nations, aiming to reshape this paradigm. In 2021, with the assistance of the Chinese people, we constructed the Padma Bridge, connecting Bangladesh's southern region with the northern area. Before its construction, people relied on ferries to cross the river, which often resulted in numerous casualties. However, since then, transportation has become much swifter, and it is projected that the bridge will boost the country's economy by an additional 1%, which is significant.

Bangladesh falling in debt is a stupid statement. Do you want Bangladesh to be in that dire condition forever? For example you want to start a transport business but you do not have money to buy a lorry, the very first thing you need to do is to obtain a bank loan to purchase the lorry. then you start to earn money transporting goods using this lorry. This way you could earn an income for yourself also to pay back the monthly loan. Would it be great this way? Chinese loan is not for you to enjoy but the loan is for you to facilitate a convenience for you to start and develop yourself. If you want to be debt free then it's fine. Just do nothing and wait for the sky to feed you.

I don't know how to answer this question. There is an old Chinese saying: If you want to be rich, build roads first. China got a lot of inspiration from this statement, and it succeeded. Because the two countries are different, whether the government of Bangladesh can take advantage of better transportation, increase the flow of people, logistics efficiency and more job opportunities is a question that Bangladesh needs to consider. But creating a better living environment for your own people is right!

As a whole the presentation in the video is reasonable. However, there are some weaknesses: For example, the over $3 billion Padma Bridge project is presented wrongly to be a BRI project. In fact it is financed by local funds, not by a Chinese loan. (The confusion may have arisen by the fact that a Chinese engineering company was given the contract by the BD government to build the bridge.)
The video omitted any role of the significant loans and FDI from Japan in this analysis.
There was an error in the maritime map of BRI showing the port of Calcutta of India to be a part of BRI, while India is well-known for not being a member of BRI. Thanks for the rest of the video.

A debt to IMF is to surrender your economy and sovereignty to Western dictates whereas a loan from China is purely a business arrangement. It also seems like the loans from China is spent on asset building that will also result in wealth creation for both parties. As long as loan money received is accounted for and no corruption is taking place then I think they are in a much better space than before.

Actually Bangladesh's geo-political location is so profitable that no developed countries can't get attracted. In recent years Bangladesh also has taken such a massive projects and developing steps that will make it one of highly developed countries in near future.
So it doesn't care weather you look at its economy or geography, there are plenty of other states that are way interested to grow profit from here.

The reason behind Bangladesh has no hidden debt because of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinas Negotiating skills, she is a seasoned Diplomat with the genetic parental linage of the Revolutionary Leader Shekh Mujibur Rahman, every single loan has been carefully selected, as well we need to mention, there is a large Investment from Japan as well, Bangladesh has multidimensional politics, because in History, Bangladesh has been a Hot Bed for politics & I believe in global stage Bangladesh can be a asset to the world to neutralise friction between different nations.

Recently the Central Bank of Bangladesh has identified some serious discrepancies in the Export data. The impact of the discrepancies could be that Bangladesh would have to revise their GDP figures, for the last 10 to 15 years, downwards. This could increase the debt to GDP ratio of Bangladesh quite significantly.

China's assistance is just the beginning, giving Bangladesh a starting point and possibility for development. The rest of the road still needs to be taken by Bengalis themselves. Moreover, the interest rates for all loans in China are clearly stated and will not change the agreement or require additional political terms. For China, a wealthy Bangladesh is more advantageous, indicating that China has an additional wealthy trading partner, which is not the case for some countries.
