I actually get an ASMR response to this version of “Down in the Park.” Chills up my spine, hair on the back of neck standing up. I think it’s the combination of the strings as well as the droning synths. And the tempo. It’s interesting that this song has been performed in so many different tempos.
I have been avoiding this for awhile because once I start watching too much Gary Numan stuff I start getting so obsessed I don't want to do anything else or live in real life anymore. It's just so much better in Numanland. ha ha ha
Gary was always underrated for the first 20yrs until we catch up. I remember buying this album at 16yrs old when it first came out, never looked back. This album changed my life, I am 58 today all I can say is thank you Gary!
WTF!!! How has he managed to keep such amazing vocal? What an absolute legend. My Dad met him at a flying club at North Weald (I think) he said he was absolutely charming. They simply don’t make ‘em like that anymore
I agree about the vocals. I am blown away by how good he sounds. Most singers voices change when they get older. But he still sounds like his young self. Incredible.
Numan showed us the Dystopian Future 43 years ago. I remember buying this album in high school and thinking this sounds like the future and I was right. Only now it sounds modern and every bit as powerful as it did then. Thanks Gary!
@@eli8829 I honestly think Gary Numan's music has aged better than any musician of that era. This whole Brixton Academy set could have been first written and recorded yesterday.
You can't beat a classic, and this is a genuine CLASSIC track. A brilliant track from a brilliant album. Still sounds as fresh today as it did in 1979.
@@criticalmass9483 The great thing with Techno and Synth is, it does not sound old, you could play it to a new audience and they would not know till they compare it.
I had this album on vinyl. I'm almost afraid to look back at what year it was. I graduated high school in 1976, and now I am old. I hope Gary is doing well.
How the hell do you say thank God for Numan, when Numan doesn't believe in God?? Ill just pay homage to rumour........., can't wait to get back down in the park. Xxxx
After 20+ replays, three things stick in my mind. First: Amazing stage presence! Second: Vocals sound better than ever! Third: That's the right drummer for the job! I wasn't born when this song was made, but it has followed me for all my life in different ways. So happy to get to see live versions of it online, and I really hope that I will get a chance to send a simple "Thank you!" to Gary for all the melodies, emotions and inspiration that I have found through his work. It means a lot, for this random nobody...
I saw Gary Numan live a few times in thee 80s and the experience was astounding! I have recently seen some bands live from back in the day but sadly, they really should let their past be the past and celebrate the fact they had their heyday!!! But where Gary is concerned, I am gobsmacked at how he is even more astounding over 40 years later!!! He can't possibly be Human!!!
This song never gets old and every time I hear it, the memories come flooding back ... I can still remember hearing my dad saying "Who the hell is this guy" when he first appeared on Top of the Pops ...The strange thing is, it was my dad that dyed my hair blond after my mum refused ... He actually liked some of his stuff in the end

My friends and I were listening to his music in the 80"s.He is classic, legendary, timeless and a true musical genius.Absolutely amazing.Numan forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely fantastic! I feel my admoration and excitement of Numan in my youth vindicated in a strange way seeing this icon is still performing...as cool as he was 30 years ago...so much respect, thanks Gary Numan!
He was always weird to me, but it's a darn good weird. I first heard this off the X-Files soundtrack played by the Foo Fighters and never knew this song was originally from Gary and SO FREAKING OLD!!!
I remember feeling like the future had arrived when this was first released. Still moves me in similar ways, except strangely seems even more dystopian now than it did then.
Right... my 60th soon! I’m renting a big concert screen and a bad-ass sound system, inviting all my old school mates and putting on all these vids. Great production quality from Brixton Academy.
I saw him live at Posten in Odense. It was one hell off a great concert. And the sound was in top. I look forward to see him live again this year at Train in Aarhus.
All hail Gary. Who's watching and listening to this in 2024! I remember listening this for the first time in 84!
Urgh!
There was a live version part of a compilation of new wave “obscure” artists I think came out in 1981.. listened it to death..

Indeed. Regarded as a freak then. He was way ahead of his time.
@@hirepimike and still he is!
And to think of how old Gary numan was when you were 16 and he’s still going and sound great. David Bowie meets kraftwork
61 and still listening to the sound of metal

Most likely because it's not live

This live version actually sounds better than the album. I prefer his more matured voice.
I read your post in the voice of Eddie

I don't know, they look and sound like they have religion, Satanic. They fooled you though.
The ACE of spades!
Almost absurdly majestic for us 80s kids.
I bow to the Master of electronic music & synth rock.
Thanks! 😁
Numan.........pure...........genius.
I was bracing for impact when he started to sing but Jesus Christ he sounds great
Yep...he gets better over time unlike some bands
Love the synth. I think that is what I miss most from the 70's and 80's.
Totally diggin it. I like how it's sort of a combination of the retro sound, plus some new.

On of the best songs of the 80's sounds like nothing before or since.
Brilliant. at 64 I am 19 again. My favourite track from the album.
I was on my second year of alcohol and hard drug sobriety in 1984. What a wonderful time to grow up. I hope Gary is doing well.
we evolve or we die.. gary rocking his classic track with ghost dancing ... is classic
The synth player is excellent !!!
When you write music that was remnant of the future when it hits the future it sounds modern.

Wow - the sound is awesome on High Quality headphones. Excellent !!!

Yeah. I'm obsessed with the man and the music. My eye makeup has taken a definite turn to the dark side as well.
That reaction at the end hitting the floor, that says " I fucking nailed that" gary, you've been "nailing" it for years! ! Thank you gary
