Definitely a trip worthy of a V6 outing. I agree. The older you get, the more you appreciate history and look back to times when life was less complicated. There is definitely something very warming about discovering unchanged things years later too, and amazing the memories they can unlock. Oh and chips will continue to enhance most situations

It was literally my pleasure. It was emotional, but it was also cathartic as it turns out. Just being back home kind of lifted the guilt I’ve been feeling for all these years having abandoned my home, albeit not through choice. And that’s great as it means I can properly reconnect going forwards, spend more time there and properly share more of my home and my family history. I love knowing that I can do that. My mother was from Treherbert my gran ran a shop selling bread n milk. they all then moved to Cardiff and not sure when but they moved to Coventry and everyone settled there found husbands got married had some kids bought homes. My Dad worked 32 years in Rootes, Humber, Chrysler and My dad was from Wales To just over the next valleys going towards Port Talbot. A bit like yourself We had many Holidays at my Granddads house my Gran had died in 1963 and I was born 1964 and my sister in 1967..? My dad back in 1960's early 1970's drove a black Morris minor 1954 split screen followed in 1974 a Hillman Hunter 1500DL. Cool Video I used to travel along A465 BUT Found the satnav had hissy fit and I got frustratingly lost..

Funnily enough, on the Rhigos road I did talk about my Grandfather’s series of Hillman Hunters, as I remember going up and down the hill to the horses in the brown one and then the blue one four times a day…but that bit didn’t make it to the final edit. Neither did a LOT of footage of my reaction to the chaos on the A465!

In fact he said off camera that it was indicative of how quickly he’s settled back into valley ways that he was even slightly surprised by the cost, for exactly that reason, it’s a damned sight cheaper than London. The thing is, the Angel is out of Glynneath and is the entrance to Waterfall Country, and as such is heavily frequented by tourists, so their pricing is bound to reflect that, as opposed to a valleys pub in a mining village catering pretty much exclusively to locals.

I love where I am now and have some potentially exciting opportunities with my Nepali work family and of course I enjoy my time Captain Mustard who you’ll see on loads of my videos. But I’ve always figured I’d end up back home when the time was right. In an ideal world I’d become a lot less poor, have a place there and split my time, but that’s a bit ambitious for someone who can barely afford to pay the rent in one place, never mind two! But one way or another I will end up where I began.

I'm near there myself & near Saddleworth moor which is similar again. I've hiked across Crowden & go up around Lady Bower & the Pennines many years ago now though. Beautiful scenery.
