I have never tried to adjust my grip more forward until now. That was amazing and super impressive. Im definately going to go shoot some with a more forward grip and try to learn that. Made a lot of sense as far as eliminating recoil.

      Leverage of grip force. You can squeeze a firearm as tight as you want, thats not going to mitigate the UP and DOWN movement of the muscle. Leverage on the base of the grip via the wrist and pinky will keep that muzzle from dancing. I learned that from Rick Crawley with AHT. And it works

      JonDinCT Blocks aren't conducive to a proper grip, anyway. Pretty much ANY OTHER PISTOL has better ergos these days. Glocks have been irrelevant since around 1989. Just my opinion. And, I don't wanna hear the "reliability" thing. All quality modern day pistols are reliable, if you do your part. My dad has a Block 19 that won't cycle through a whole mag, without a malfunction. So, go figure... I have a Taurus PT-111 G2 that has NEVER malfunctioned. I also just bought a Canik TP9 SFx that has been nothing short of perfection. These are inexpensive guns that run 100%. And, the Canik's trigger is a dream compared to the Glock. Keep drinking the Glock koolaid, man. As for me, I feel like they are ripping people off.

    If you’re going to include grip, you have to include all the upgrades Bob made to his competition pistol such as the cutout, the trigger upgrade, the stippling…all these affect the follow-up shots. Quit trying to say that grip alone can accomplish this. With years of training? Maybe. But take the upgrades into consideration when talking to your kool-aid drinking fan base.

  • @jamiesloan5902
    @jamiesloan5902 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You talk about getting your grip high, and as close to the muzzle as possible. This makes perfect sense to me. That's why I wrap my index finger around the front of the trigger guard. This gives me an amazing amount of torque on the gun. It also allows me to loosen my trigger finger up, a bit more, which we know, is what allows us to shoot fast. Explain to me why this grip isn't taught more? The only time that I have any troubles, is when I start applying "lateral" force with the finger(around the trigger guard). With this grip, I can pretty much completely relax my strong hand, and still have a death grip on my gun, with just my support hand. I'm 6'2", so I do have larger hands than most people. Maybe that's one reason that my finger naturally goes to that spot. It just amazes me that it isn't being taught, as at least an option. The great Jerry Miculek does mention it in one of his videos as a viable option though. I thought that was pretty cool. Oh, another thing... The "standard" grip really puts my left wrist in a major bind. I CANNOT get my wrist rolled forward, as much as you guys. It's actually painful, when I try it. I'm just curious about your thoughts on this wrap around grip. And, why most instructors forbid it. Is it really that bad? And if it is.. Why?

I had just started shooting 3 months in started with one eye then I had to relearn with both eyes open and yes it really helps you to shoot fast because when you have both eyes open you can transition from target to target faster.

    Bobs grip is amazing I have been practicing this for a while now and the recoil control is on point. If he were shooting a smaller gun like a glock 19 or sig p320 compact his support index finger would be gripping the front of the trigger guard, or at least mine does on a sig p320 compact on a hk vp9 or larger gun its right at the end of the trigger guard it really helps with support you have to get high and tight as possible!

    The size of his double tap groups are directly related to the short reset of the Glock trigger and its low bore axis. I observed this in the early '90s as an LEO when I switched from a 3rd Gen S&W to a Glock 19.

    Why does he keep ejecting his mag, tapping the top round, & putting it back in?

    • @JessicaHook
      @JessicaHook 7 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      When it matters, you'll want to look at your mag to see that the rounds are uniformly positioned in the mag, and then tap the back side (the side with the primers) to make sure the rounds are firmly seated to the back, as having a round sit too far forward could cause a jam by not feeding correctly. But when you've done this a million times throughout your life as he has, I'd say it has become more of a habitual lifestyle "tic."

    • @skepticalbadger
      @skepticalbadger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jessica Hook Yes, I'm aware of the need for correct positioning of cartridges, although with modern pistols & mags, it's hardly necessary to check. As you say, here it's clearly a habit. Hell of a shooter though.

    Not taking anything away from Rob, he's a phenomenal shooter, but his splits are probably .18 - .25 for some of these. The faster you shoot with a given distance, the more your shots will open up. He's not shooting until he sees the sights again. Most shooters live in this range. Anything below .15 splits and the average person won't pick up the sights. They'll see them but not visually be able to track and align them especially at distance. This just takes a lot of practice and it becomes fairly easy
