No one can deny that the Salvation Army had a most unique way of worshiping, for sure. I'm in my late 50s now, and grew up in rural, Newfoundland, Canada, and remember much of this myself. The Army is not what it used to be, and by a long shot, too.
@@susiletthangam3599 : Yes, the Army is "modernizing" and becoming what they believe is more "respectable," but they are loosing all their unique spirit in the process. Salvation Army churches almost, always had Alters/Mercy Seats and Holiness Tables as standard fixtures in their churches; I have been utterly, appalled to see more and more Salvation Army churches removing these to modernize and streamline. These were always, powerful symbols within the church and I am deeply, saddened to see the Army go in this direction. And all this within my lifetime.
@@ursulaganer2015 : Hey Darling, thank you for your reply. What language is this? I'm thinking German but I'm not sure. Is the Salvation Army big in Germany? Ya, it did not take long but it seems the Army is trying to conform and modernize and with that, they are loosing all the character and charm that made them so appealing and interesting. You seem a little older than myself, I remember the Army throughout the 70s and 80s actually. Even since then the Army seems to have changed considerably. I am from Newfoundland, Canada, myself, and the Army here, at that time, would have felt very similar to the Army in Britain in its early days. We had a very, distinctive way of worshiping, to say the least. I don't even, like most Salvation Army Churches these days. They don't feel like church at all. We had such a lovely, little, sanctuary back home, that place was torn down after I left, and a new one built, and now this new one is closed up, as well. I personally, never really, liked the new one anyway. I don't like this modern trend Darling, regarding churches for sure, and that is stripping them of everything that makes them FEEL, like a church. If people want to put this all white, bare, minimalist, garbage in their homes then that is one thing, but it should not apply to churches, as well. I miss the richness of the past, big time. Warmest Wishes. My Best. Out.

I did this arrangement in 1985 at WMI in California. It seemed to go viral after that. I feel blessed that the message of the saving power of the blood of Jesus is a universal message and can never be quenched. This video is taken for the BBC program Songs of Praise in 1990.
I think it is the 80's because of the glory flags which were very popular then and as well you had a combination of the old bonnets and the newer hats.
Would you be free from your burden of sin? There’s power in the Blood, power in the Blood; Would you o’er evil a victory win? There’s wonderful power in the Blood. There is power, power, wonder-working power, In the Blood of the Lamb; There is power, power, wonder-working power, In the precious Blood of the Lamb. Would you be free from your passion and pride? There’s power in the Blood, power in the Blood; Come for a cleansing to Calvary’s tide, There’s wonderful power in the Blood. Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow? There’s power in the Blood, power in the Blood; Sin-stains are lost in its life-giving flow, There’s wonderful power in the Blood. Would you do service for Jesus your King? There’s power in the Blood, power in the Blood; Would you live daily His praises to sing? There’s wonderful power in the Blood.
1:49 There are some really big glasses which were fashionable (not that Salvationists are permitted to follow worldly fashions), were 'available for sale' in the nineteen-eighties. . Jessica Fletcher had big glasses up until 1990. . The bonnets look early 1980's but the mens' hair look mid 1980's And renting the Opera House was common in those days; any community group could hold sing-songs there; it doesn't look like the concert hall, is it the recording studio? . . Cheers. from, del-boy
I could not agree more bring back the bonnets , The old style new uniforms looked like Salvationists and made us stand out. The new style particularly the female soldiers look more like police officers
This song, as I found out, was written by Lewis E. Jones in 1899. The song "Quartermaster Store", which there are several variations of, is believed to have been originally penned during the time of the Spanish Civil War, from 1936 to 1939, and was therefore highly likely based around this song. I think I'd much rather listen to "Power in the Blood", personally though.
We used to play this at open airs street ministry, but now that has been not permitted now because of political correctness. Don’t want to offend other faiths.
Salmo 131 verso 13 e 14.

The army in the beginning use tunes that common folk knew, just submitted their own lyrics.

@Phil Bailey - yeah your local Salvation Army lol
someone try. Cover the Glory of this ministry for me,but their can Alleluia
Love the arrangement. What band is this? All those bonnets - can't be very recently that this was recorded.
Is it not biblical that a woman should have her hair covered? you wouldn't find a man entering a church of worship with a hat on!
This is the Sydney Congress Hall band from around 1990. I know one of the trombonists & his mother is in the choir, too.

Musically precise, agreed - but where, oh where was the ENTHUSIASM!
Love to hear a U.S. Gospel choir have a go at this.
