You know, I remember hearing that during the Winter War, some Finnish soldiers (mainly machine gunners) had to be removed from the front because they were so psychologically rattled from watching Soviet troops charge pointlessly to their deaths over and over again. I often wonder if Ukrainian troops are feeling the same…
Probably not, because in this case most of the casualties are by drones and artillery. When a machine gunner is facing those types of charges, they're looking them in eye and killing them, it's a very different thing psychologically. Sometimes they do stupid charges and are met with small arms, but the number are much much lower. In the Winter War the Soviet Union had over 300k casualties in just 3 months. This is a much slower, longer war, even when the losses are more lopsided.
No doubt. But equally I am sure some are just fine with it. However, everyone will suffer PTSD, pretty much everyone in this conflict will suffer mental health issues at some point in the future.

The The Chinese general in charge of the offensive cared about his men, and ultimately had his leaders let him stop his advance, since it was a bloodbath for his own side.
Russia's main problem is that while you can send more hardware and more young men to become canon fodder to the front lines, there is no way to add more intelligence to their command structure.
@@ThePorkchop1787 There are western estimates that the russian number of KIA since the war broke out in 2022 is 200 000, and the ukranian KIA is 80 000. This discrepancy is perfectly logical concidering the fact that the ukrainians in most cases have been in defensive positions during the whole war, and the russians attacking. Attacking forces in almost all cases loose three time more men than the defenders, regardless if the attack is successful or not. That´s because the attackers are more exposed to enemy fire.
So it appears the UKR still did not eliminate the RUS bridgehead over the canal basically giving the RUS a step off point for further assaults on the coal mine. And now with the loss of the ground north of hte mine, RUS can attack the min from 2 directions. Why does UKR seem to be unable to retake lost ground? I think the main reasons are: 1. RUS losses are not as bad as UKR reports. 2. Most UKR forces do not have the manpower and/or training to conduct high intensity offensive operations. The ones that do are all tied up in Kursk where that offensive has now bogged down
