I met Dennis several times. We'd see each other at Venice and Santa Monica beach. We'd say hi to each other. When Dennis came out with his solo album I was in the back of the crowd at Tower Records, he managed to get me to the front. Myself and a friend went to Brothers Studio in S.M. they had a phone hidden in front. My friend picked it up and asked if Dennis would come out. He took pics with us, his arm around my shoulder. Best day of my teenage life🥰❤️.

It's so sad what happened to him after his unfortunate involvement with Charlie Manson. I truly believe that's what sent him spiraling over the edge & led to his ultimate death. 😢

I'm 63 now and grew up with these men. They were already out of their teens when I was born. I watched them go from young men to much older men and grew up with their music. I can't count the number of days and nights I spent at the Jersey Shore listening to, and living, this music. Rare is a musical group that can stand the test of time, or endure through different periods of time. These guys were able to touch the emotions and feelings of multiple generations. Brian Wilson is a towering musical genius and with his brothers along with Mike Love and Al Jardine, created some of the most memorable songs ever written. when you are "mentally", and physically abused from a young age, it robs you of your childhood innocence. You grow up faster and with a "childs eyes", start to see the world through a more advanced "adults eyes". Whether you want to or not, you are forced through trauma to "grow up" faster, and because you are no longer innocent, you are made fully aware, and more mature. When ever I see a child that seems to mature for his age, I always wonder why. Is abuse always the reason for this? No, of course not, but I think more than not, "in some shape or form", there is an underlying reason. In my own opinion of course.

@Scooter - Mike, Gary, Van Dyke Park and others help Brian complete his iconic works of music magic.
Should be noted that Mike Love wanted/demanded that Brian not fulfill his imaginative aural creativity and totally focus on ONLY cranking out the same beach and car songs.
Once for Brian’s birthday, Mike Love and others gave him multiple 20lb boxes of See’s Candy - odd gift to somebody they knew had a big weight problem
Isn’t it “interesting” that The Beach Boys released “Kokomo” (that didn’t have Brian involved at all) at the same time Brian’s “Love and Mercy” was released. Any guesses on which song is best and which song sold the most - lol!

    • @scootergeorge7089

@@jefflee674 - You seem to be referring to the rumor that Mike Love hated the Pet Sounds LP and told Brian, "Don't f**k with the formula." Love absolutely denied saying any such thing and said he thought the LP was great even though his input was minimal in creating it. Kokomo was a hit. Probably sold better than Love and Mercy but I can't remember that one.
So I'm not prepared to say which song is "better." "Disco Duck" was a number one hit for Rick Dees in 1976 but that does not make it a great song.

I was 16 years old in '66 and a junior in high school when Pet Sounds came out. 'Wouldn't It Be Nice?' was the theme song for me and my girl that summer. But for me alone, The Lovin' Spoonful's, 'Summer In The City,' was the hottest sound of the summer!
For nostalgic reasons, here are the top15 National Charts songs of July '66:
    1. HANKY PANKY - Tommy James & The Shondells (Roulette)
    2. STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT - Frank Sinatra (Reprise)
    3. LIL' RED RIDING HOOD - Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs (MGM)
    4. PAPERBACK WRITER - The Beatles (Capitol)
    5. WILD THING - The Troggs (Atco / Fontana)
    6. RED RUBBER BALL - The Cyrkle (Columbia)
    7. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME - Dusty Springfield (Philips)
    8. PAINT IT, BLACK - The Rolling Stones (London)
    9. THE PIED PIPER - Crispian St. Peters (Jamie)
    10. SUMMER IN THE CITY - The Lovin' Spoonful (Kama Sutra)

    11. SWEET PEA - Tommy Roe (ABC)
    12. COOL JERK - The Capitols (Karen)
    13. I AM A ROCK - Simon & Garfunkel (Columbia)
    14. MOTHER'S LITTLE HELPER - The Rolling Stones (London)
    15. SUNNY - Bobby Hebb (Philips)

In my early teens the Beach Boys gained rapid popularity. From then through now, there have been many, many great artists of all genres. I can comfortably say the Beach Boys are my number 1 favorite. Short note. It took several years for my maturity level to appreciate God Only Knows. It was just so different from their "beach, girls, cars" songs. It ultimately became one of my all-time favorites. Carl Wilson was phenomenal and as many have stated, I too find him to be the soul of the Beach Boys. Probably my favorite performance of God Only Knows is from the "Beach Boys historic concert at Knebworth House on June 21st 1980." Perhaps the happiest and most relaxed I have ever seen them. Thank you Beach Boys for having made my life better.

I met them once, on tour in NOVA SCOTIA I was very young - didn't know much about life. They were ALL BRILLIANT - each in his own way and their BROTHERHOOD was one of their strongest points.. I was particularly TAKEN WITH BRIAN - the others always deferred to him - Even tho he was obviously the LEADER of the group - I just sensed HE WAS SO ALONE. I didn't know ANYTHING about his home life - his dad ANY OF IT - but it kinda makes sense - he was the OLDEST and I think he was trying to PROTECT his younger brothers. I'm 79 now - I've followed Brian over the years - his staying in bed for years, his gaining weight - etc. but as time goes on I think he's become more RESTORED to himself - O god, I just remembered that CONTROLLING KREEP of a "personal manager" - for years he MANIPULATED him almost to destruction. - BUT Brian ESCAPED, saved himself - RESTORED himself and now has a BETTER LIFE - GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU BRIAN!
