    This knife is a workhorse. It's made to beat the crap out of it doing real work out in the bush and, it will help you get out of trouble if need be. The angle of bevel change near the handle is actually quite genius. Many people buy this knife and don't realize why that is. The Fins have an amazing knowledge in blade making. Some of their designs and work with tempering the steels are pure wizardry. Their pukko designs are also awesome. Next to USA made, these guys are my go to..I'm a fan...
    PS- the stainless versions did have some problems, but they have since pulled that version. The high carbon steel is the money ticket. Just remember to take care of it and coat it with bees wax or a good oil and you'll be good to go!

    Awesome overview Ivan, glad I scrolled down to some of these older videos! Living up in Vermont, this little guy usually gets hauled out on a sled for winter camp trips or packed for spring canoe trips. Other than that, it lives in my wood closet.
    Paired up with a silky saw and a small 3" knife, it's great for processing firewood or creating ground blinds. That said, at a little over a pound, it doesn't get out very often on backpacking/overnight-hunting trips.

      just north of you and I use a silky nata, which is basically the same thing just a giant wedge of steel to cut with (closer to 2 pounds) and a corona or bahco saw, also thrown in the sled. same deal haha

    I’m getting one to use along side my silky. I think it’s the perfect combo. I also already have their tiny knife which is made from the scraps of the skarma 240 and that’s my smaller knife I can use for small tasks. I carry it every day on a lanyard looped on my belt loop and tucked in my waistband

    I have this and the Jaakaripuuko 140.
    Amazing combo 10/10 would recommend.
    Both knives, with leather sheaths, and shipping, less than 200 new zealand dollars!
    Can't do better than that

    I love mine! It’s EPIC! So fun to work with. I haven’t touched my Esee Junglass since I got it. Going to get the 200 as well and maybe the Pukko knife. Amazing value for the price. Takes a while to get but very much worth it.

    I have a second run JessX and I have it sharpened like that except on the back angle, I have it at 22° along with a 90° spine about 3" out from the handle ànd the rest of the edge sharpened to 30°.

    If you want to carry a saw also I would recommend looking into pocket saws.
    Have used the savotta taskusaha a fair bit myself with a 14cm puukko for a lightweight all around toolset with fairly good results. Of course you'll be wanting a proper axe/fixed saw at some points, especially if you want to fall bigger trees, but you can still accomplish most everything with just the pocket saw and a knife. Cutting fallen trunks is where it really excels.
    You can also use the saws with some rope if you want to cut tall branches etc.

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t played much with pocket saws. I need to try some.

    Kit, I bought one it took 4 months to get here, I got sort of pissy with customer service, They sent another one out to me, the first one came to the door, and a week later the second one came here too. Customer service again and the said KEEP IT. So now I have 2 of these beast. Will say Customer service was great but, Living in the rockey's They sent it to LAX,Denver,then here . I think next time I will go with fastest shipping and eat the cost. Great tool gets the looks from the back pack snobs but its fun to play and chop and cut anything I want.... Later

    I have the 200mm version of this. The 240 is too big for belt carry in my opinion and the plastic sheath comes standard (for $2) so you can save some cash and not get the leather sheath. Quality at a good price. Good vid.

    got one a few years back. blade grind was kinda crap on mine, figured i'd tune it up when i got a belt grinder. also had a weird smell to the rubber. best way i can think to describe it is burnt piss. but, it's huge, and cool, and i kept it so i can tune it up and then go enjoy it. now just gotta get that garage shop worked out.

      They have been having problems with stock from time to time for a while. They try to increase order sizes and more people learn of the existence of their stuff and the circle continues. They have an e-mail alert system (Which has for years worked flawlessly for me) notifying people when they get stuff in stock that you are waiting for. I've been a customer for about 15 years I think and only "problem" I have had was when I ordered one piece of clothing accidentally one size bigger than intended.

  • @mattberry4457
    @mattberry4457 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    it’s a nice price point for a decent bush blade but that long handle has to go. it doesn’t add that much leverage and would get in the way while doing tasks while using a high grip. also the dangler sheath, if worn on the belt, at some time or another is going to whack you in the nuts. that being said it’s a good value at 70.00.

    • @KitBadger
      @KitBadger  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you used one? The longer handle is night and day for chopping.

    • @mattberry4457
      @mattberry4457 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i have not used one. i do have a knife that’s very close to that with the same length blade and handle. the blade is thicker and the handle is flared towards the bottom. i find it heavy and annoying when chocking up the handle seems to get in the way at times.
      that being said there was a little old guy grumpiness going on so i will order one and try it out myself. i’m sure it will be better and will give me some impetus to get off my butt and whack some vegetation in my yard that needs whacking.

    • @muskett4108
      @muskett4108 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattberry4457 Get one, and then you will realise what you have been missing. The utility of the knife is so very useful; a thinking man's golok.
      Add a Silky Saw, and Mora and the weight still under 2lbs, or the weight of a hatchet.
      Its not really for hard dried oak, nor to chop logs in half. Good at splitting though. What its great at is wood up to inch and half, which it zips through. And it does some small tasks really well, like feater sticks.
      Doesn't have the reach of a machete, but then its stiffer so doesn't ring ding.
      Anyhow, I rate it highly and pretty sure it will make a good few of your blades redundant. As a reach for work tool, there isn't anything like it.

    • @mattberry4457

      i ordered one the day i posted. i’m so used to clicking the cheap shipping button it’s going to be a three week wait. i shouldn’t have been so hasty . for five dollars i could have had it in a week. when it arrives i’ll go in the backyard and commence to whacking and report my findings.
