I’m not sure the Cubase score Editor really supports this kind of notation. Maybe somebody else has a suggestion, because I don’t do this kind of notation often…
I don’t do this enough to speak from experience… but check out this link: archive.steinberg.help/dorico/v3/en/dorico/topics/notation_reference/notation_reference_jazz_articulations/notation_reference_jazz_articulations_c.html#:~:text=You%20can%20change%20the%20type,Deleting%20jazz%20articulations and this video: th-cam.com/video/C_k3IKJbZbQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hL2slE5aQwyRiZ-V I hope that helps!
You can set a semi-tone trill by invoking the ornaments popover (Shift+O) and then typing ‘trill m2’. The ‘m2’ stands for minor second and will display a trill ornament with a flat sign above it in your score. If you have a half tone trill in your expression map then this will trigger it. Let me know if you have questions.
I think the major workflow for me will be to use looping and lanes to create a decent piano idea in Cubase, then to quantise and first look at the score in Cubase. Further refinements I think should ignore Cubase and flip an export straight into Dorico for major workings, like creating orchestral parts and articulations. So, a great addition to Dorico really!
Yes, I think for orchestral composers - especially film and media composers - the integration between Cubase and Dorico will be very valuable as it matures.
Thanks for you videos :-) is it possible to allign the bars and its notes in a way that they are in the same vertical alignment for each system? In my opinion musical form would be much easier to anaylze with that formatting.
I think you can do that when you print things out. But, I haven’t seen a way to control that in the Score Editor window… but, I am still learning about it :)
@@musicchefpro When using the template for a band (multiple players), every player's bars are aligned correctly under each other, so it is possible. Dont know why it doesnt work with one player/voice alone.
Thank you for this great video, I have a question. There's is something strange with the behavior of the DP knob (display quantize) in the score editor screen from Cubase 14. When I don't use the DP knob then I can change note lenghts without a problem, the only problem is that it affects midi when I don't want that. So I tried the DP knob to change only the display quantize, but when I try then to change a note length value, following the instructions in the manual, it will not change. Maybe you can reproduce that and also maybe it's a bug. I'm working with Windows 11 Pro. All the best, Bart.
I want to be able to compose on score, not just for orchestral, but also for synths where I can augment the score with automation/modulation of various parameters. In score I'd like to set dynamics, articulations, tempo, crescendoes/ritardandoes, trills, other ornaments such as mordents and grace notes, etc. Is Cubase the correct choice for this? Audio rendered from the computer is my priority for this, engraving is a lesser concern.
Thanks for posting! My recommendation would depend on whether you’re working more with synths or orchestral. I would recommend Cubase if you’re mainly working with synths and adding a few orchestral elements. However, I’d recommend Dorico if you’re doing the opposite - mainly working with orchestral elements and adding a few synths. Dorico is capable of synth programming, but it is a bit of a square peg in a round hole :). I did a video some months back about controlling a synth’s cutoff with Dorico’s dynamics and maybe that would be helpful - you can find it on my channel. Best of luck!
They need to improve the integration of Expression Maps in the key editor to link to the notation symbol equivalent in the score editor. That, would be true integration!
It´s indeed ,an interesting app, however it´s a radical a change from Cubase 13 and earlier which I´ve been using for 20 years.. . It´s missing a lot of friendly features that the older Cubase score that would still be welcome, along with the updated approach of this newer version. Quite a learning curve ahead! I do like that I can simply play a chord in realtime and have it print! WhatI miss now is the old advanced settings>option assign "number of bars to staff". As it is, is defaulted to 4 bars per staff which seldom works for my music.
How do you make Cubase add a chord mark above a pad track for example. In Cubase 13, if I entered the channel and then open the score . On the top right there was a small c7 button and it would add the chords automatically. It seems that now in cubase 14 when you press c7 you need to add each chord separately and write it one by one . do you know how cubase 14 do it automatically?
I’ve seen the C7 button moved into the panel on the left side of the new Score Editor. Does that do what you need? I also know that any chords you add manually to a regular chord track will also show up in the Score.
As usual, Very informative and instructive.
Glad it was helpful - thanks for watching!
Drat! Missed the livestream again. That PDF is very welcome and I just setup Cubase as you described.
Thanks, I'm glad the PDF was helpful!
Does anyone know how to get these dynamics in Cubase 14 like falls doit?

You're welcome!
Now if I could just figure out how to get semi-tone trills out of Berlin Woodwinds. The default "trill" in the libraries is whole tone.
@@musicchefpro That did it! Tnx!
Nice!
@@musicchefpro Now wondering what will happen when exported to Cubase and how trills are implemented there.

Loop function is useful. Still not available in Dorico

It is a radical change. Yes, I’d imagine for existing score editor users. This is going to be a learning curve.

I think the cubase score editor misses fingering insertions known from Dorico?
I’m not yet sure about that exact feature, but my observations are that there’s a great many differences between this implementation and Dorico.
