This is a great and no cost method to reduce the folds in a poster. For about $100 to $150 you can get your poster linenbacked that will completely get rid of the folds and creases if you you want to go to that extent.
If you can afford to take it to the next level linen backing the poster will help to flatten it even more and maintain the integrity of the piece, I recently had a professional do a couple of my posters and they really turned out wonderful.
I have a 6’x6’ wall poster coming today so I’m researching cuz it’s coming to me folded as well. On yours, Im thinking you ironed some humidity into the poster so when you were done, maybe could have tried placing weight on creases(pile of books?) for a couple days while it dried further and shrank which could pull wrinkles down flat even more. But I was inspired!
Looked this up because I had bought a poster from Rogues. Then you mention Rogues in the vid and I laughed and looked who had posted it the video and it was you. Thanks for the tips, Mike.
Michael you could also try waxed paper on the back of the poster as a second step. I'd try it something unimportant first to see if you like that method. So ironing it first as you did then use waxed paper second. Remember when we used to do this with leaves as kids it will strengthen the back.
Wish me luck. I gave my iron away, but I'm gonna try with flat iron for hair. I'm gonna sandwich the map between a couple of pieces of cardstock to protect it. I won't be able to get the central crease, but gonna sandwich it between two pieces of foamboard and put some books on it for a days.
Thanks for this! I wanted to ask, do you think this method works aswell for a crinkled/folded book jacket? One of my books had a jacket that can also become a poster, it wrinkled pretty badly due to shipment though. :( i wanted to try ironing it but its my first time and im a bit scared i might damage it more, especially considering the price. Thank you again!
An absolute necessity for all those posters that came with old video games and issues of Nintendo Power. Thank you for this quick tip!

the reason i came here was for a devo vynl i bought!
For a Devo poster, you're supposed to whip it into shape. 😉
That's literally why I'm here
This is awesome, it's so simple but I would have never thought of it. Thanks!
Thanks Michael got a poster folded up in a box set and was looking for ways to even it out. Left you a like, Mike
Thank you for posting this, it worked pretty well. I started off on a low heat and then moved up to cotton without any problems

It was on low.
Dude awesome. Gonna do it right now
Nice! Did you have to keep dampening the cloth as you went along?
Yes I did
Turned out great.
Im gonna give it a try. Gonna practice with something else before i go at the real poster
Would this method safely work with autographs in the front of the poster?
Thank you for this tutorial, it helped a lot!
I wonder how many times ironing it would the creases completely disappear?
Try it!
Same problem I had aquarium poster .
It should have been rolled in a tube !
How hot was the iron?
It was on the minimum setting.
Thank you. Will add in the description.

Gonna try this with my fantasy football board tomorrow lol thx
Right on
Would this work with a hair dryer???
Not sure.
you think i can use a basic t-shirt as the towel?
Should work as long as it's not polyester. Cotton has a high heat point so that would be a safe bet
Nice poster !!! wow
what heat setting did you have it on?
Low heat
