MechWarrior 5: Clans is an upcoming BattleTech Mecha game under development by Piranha Games and due for release in 2024 on Windows and Consoles. It is the first Clan single player MechWarrior game since 1995.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is set in 3015 during the final decade of the Third Succession War, casting the player as a rookie mercenary MechWarrior rising from the ashes of a demolished mercenary unit. They are able to accept contracts from the various factions available in this time period. The campaign is said to go all the way up to 3049, just before the Clan Invasion."
Correction: Warhawk does not get to add armor on the left side torso. That does not change its ranking, I'm just adding this to keep you from looking for omnipods that don't exist (yet?).
Agree with the list except for the Artic Cheeta. I would put it in B, maybe A tier (big maybe) because that mech is a little work horse for me in the first 4 or 5 missions of the game. With speed, er small lasers, jumps, and ecm, it's a handy mech at the beginning.
yeah the little cheeta is such a workhorse, I use it alot in early play too
I remember doing the first few missions and being surprised that the AI lance mate with the cheeta was out damaging me in the Viper. Those SRMs and lasers did some work. Sadly it gets replaced very soon afterwards with more Vipers and Novas so it got hardly any milestones done.
Arctic Cheeta is FAAST, good for hit-and-run. Sadly, hit-and-run tactics aren't useful in Clans. If Arctic Cheetah was in MW5 Mercs, that would be a diff story.
100% agree with this list. Especially the Nova. I thought the Nova was so strong and fun to play with.
Nova always been S tier, even in other MW games. The original MW2 Nova was even stronger since Jump Jets use to be able to rotate your mech + move faster than MASC.
You should put informational videos like this on a sister channel, you'll likely get more traction that way as the algorithm judges channels as a whole more than the individual videos.
The Nova got a 15th ersl with the hero chassis in the free dlc.
I disagree with the ranking being totally based on nothing but the ability to add armor and energy weapons. With this ranking all light mecks will end up in C or B at very best. You’re ignoring elements such as speed and maneuverability.
A Timberwolf will always beat an artic cheeta in a one on one match. But the game doesn’t let you have that Timberwolf until near end of the campaign.
Offensive and defensive power is all that matters. Speed means not that much in this game. You gotta kill stuff to progress, not outrun it. Even more so in the higher difficulties.
In PvP you're not wrong. But PvE is a bunch of dice rolls right now for enemy forces. If you're dealing with dice rolls, then armor and lasers is good.
Reminds me of mechwarrior4mercs when everyone played 6erll timber wolves and 7erll nova cats. It looks like not the damage needs to be nerfed but the effective range. Small laser pewing up to 600 meters with full research is just lol.

Anything under 50 tons should be in C tier, except that Shadowcat. The Gargoyle is 80 ton mech that deserves a C Tier spot. It’s so trash, if you got it in early game, it still isn’t useful. The StormCrow deserves S Tier and not A tier for you in my opinion. The variants can make it do any role and you may need a few to fulfill the replay mission challenges. Its lower weight is useful so you don’t go over tonnage. The Summoner is total trash in its basic variant but not terrible once one of the variants is available. C Tier for basic. A solid B for the variant with 2 large auto cannon slot. I have a love and hate relationship with the Mad Dog. It’s nostalgic for me, looks cool and have a variety of weapons but it tends to not be a brawler with the lower armor. The lower weight limits what you can do despite all the slots on it and runs out of ammo fast. A B/A Tier for me.

Stone Rhino is not a front line mech. It does not fit in the story.

They need to add a sandbox mode in clans like there is in mercs. I want to go back to mercs but the different gamepad config and graphics make me not.

Whats the difference between FF armor and standard armor ? On some Mechs you can add FF and not on others.
if you chosen the warden path you kinda lose the ability to buy ferro pods afaik the standards weight more and less armor per ton

Where is Direwolf getting extra cooling from? I count 8 DHS - including 10 DHS from engines, it should have a cooling of 3.6 - not 4.2.
Big engines can hold more than 10 dhs, which is my guess as to what is happening.

The Stormcrow should get C tier based on its looks alone. Its the ugliest mech.

It shows that the other weapons need to get buffed. The solution is not to make the game worse for everyone.

More salvage would be nice, too. If you can only have 4 weapon types maxed out and lasers are 2 of them, then the gap is even wider.
You should see how broken lasers were in MW2. Back then you could put as many lasers as you want on Torso, and use arms as shields.
This list seems kinda racist towards light mechs...
I feel like a tier list should consider the mechs weight class. The Adder being the best rated light only being in B for example makes no sense, it should be S for its weight class.
Otherwise the tier list is really just weight = best.
This is a Tier List for the game and represents raw power. The game has a clear progression in amount of tonnage thrown at you and for that you are going to choose to run heavier mechs whenever you get the chance. You are not going to bring the best light mech on the final mission because that best light mech dies in one sneeze from an AI assault. So yes, the Tier list is 100% accurate.
@@TTBprime Yeah, I still wish Light mechs had a better place in this game. Light Mechs can be used in Mercenaries late game depending on the mission type.

A: Mad Dog, Stormcrow, Shadow Cat, Kit Fox
B: Hellbringer, Executioner, Viper, Adder, Arctic Cheetah
C: Gargoyle, Summoner, Mist Lynx
S: same as you.
A: these are the mechs I gave to my starmates whenever I didn't give them the S tier mechs. The first three are the workhorses which can mount decent weaponry for their tonnage. Kit Fox is the only Light which can mount good firepower, ECM, and JJs (in S config). My Liam just used it until the Hellbringer.
B: these are the mechs which had specific and rather narrow roles in my stars, but couldn't really be replaced within those roles. Hellbringer is THE Liam mech but pretty useless for others, getting overshadowed first by Nova/Stormcrow, and then by Timberwolf for them. Viper is good in its A config, but its Prime sucks, and that's a problem when replaying the early missions in the Simpod and not having many options tonnage-wise. Executioner is the only decent JJ mech for the several endgame missions until the JJ-capable DW configs get unlocked, and is the endgame JJ mech when using just the Prime configs for the Simpod (I like JJs, you see). Adder is a great fighter for its tonnage, but can't jump or mount ECM (that's bad for a Light imo), while the Cheetah is the opposite: a good scout, but a bit undergunned.
C: I just think these mechs suck. Gargoyle and Summoner sacrifice too much tonnage for mobility (and Gargoyle can't even jump at that!), and ML just has no weapons to speak of.
The viper is a piece of garbage. You can get more firepower and use from an Ader
Perhaps, but TTB has a build that makes it INSANELY tanky(we're talking on par with a stock Gargoyle) and packs quite a few lasers. and that was BEFORE the recent updates that added some new omnipod sets, so there's bound to be more that can be done with it now.
I don't know about your Vipers, but my 8x ERSL build does 13 DPS vs the 6 DPS of your 2x ERPPC Adder while being faster, using jump jets, and being twice as heat efficient. It's not even a contest.
@TTBprime Well I'll gladly try your build. I can't seem to get enough tonnage out of a viper to put a build together that actually packs a punch, without overheating constantly. But I'll give it a try for sure.
The game AI seems to function better with a few built light mechs, then it does when I give my STAR mates vipers.
