As an IT manager of many years you words were spot on. I would say that as a Manager you will need to answer the help-desk phone and fix a printer from time to time. You are never above your staff, just part of the team getting the job done.
I am an IT Manager and I think I have been doing more than what I am supposed to do, involved in L1/L2 support. I want to create structure for my department this year so that I can focus on my primary responsibilities.
@Akin Akinrinade Hello Akin, because you are an IT manager, i just want to ask, are bachelor's and masters degree in IT recommended if you want to become an IT manager? Or do you need experience only? Thanks in advance
Yeah you have to make sure you have time to improve infrastructure, security software etc. I realised that ITs role is not just to support but to improve many aspects.
Emilio - absolutely love your work. As an IT Manager who made my career out of a hobby when 8 bit computers were first introduced in Australia back in the early 80s, store and forward email networks (Fidonet Sysop way back then, came up from that thru retail and tech work, then got a minor support role with a company from which i designed their infrastructure footprint and changed their way of thinking IT and getting only a few years off retiring for me now, your an absolute inspiration to those coming up. Your amazing mate... Cheers from Queensland
Yes, exactly. this is the easiest way as this is also my current situation I worked as a IT technical support lead in one of the fortune 500 companies for +10years and I applied to a medium scale company as a IT manager and I was able to got the position
I am wondering about to be become a it manager soon. I have a business degree plus a few certifications. I’m still working on my Six Sigma, ITIL, and ITMLP certifications too. I am currently working for Amazon as a process assistant for managing a team, help other staff, and monitor been for 2 years. It is time for me to get more advance for the opportunities in the Information Technology field open the door.

Hey but what they do.. Do they make computer parts like hardware, software.. Or what.. I want to know it clearly.. Google also show that they are responsible for day to day operations.. But what are there operations??
No, they dont make computers for sure, they are responsible for maintaining the hardware and software. IT managers are responsible for the IT infra thats supports the business and ensure all business users can be highly productive by facilitating continuous availability of IT systems.
Thank you for the video Emilio! Very insightful. I myself have been asked to step into the IT managerial role, albiet on an interim basis because the current IT manager is leaving. Leadership is giving me the chance to see what I can do, and see if I even like being a people manager. If not, I can just say I'm not built for this and go back to my current role. I come from a sys admin role, and everything you mentioned are things I have to adapt to very quickly. What do you think I should focus on to make this transition as smooth as possible?
I am a student and I'll finish school in couple of months and I want to know what are the courses that I should search in university programs to apply for
Here's the thing, I major in Control Engineering(a sort of electrical engineering) for undergraduate, as for my grad school, I think I'm gonna change to Management Of Technology (or Mangement of Engineering or whatev). Is that a bad idea? How's the money then?

You described my career in detail. Thanks for this video. People don't understand what I do for a living at all and this is exactly it.

Great info. Can you explain the difference between an IT Manager and Cyber Security partner? Thank you. Keep up the good work.
