When I was 14 I finally realized I needed to ask for help and I wrote a letter to my teacher, because writing it down is easier. What comes after is never easy tho. There's no doubt in my mind that had I not written that letter to my teacher, I wouldn't be here today, 20 years later. So this episode shattered me entirely on the first watch, but I am so happy how they did it.
Joe’s acting this season has really leveled up. He’s always been good, but now that he has a few years of professional acting under his belt you can see him starting to really shine. Have you guys reacted to Agatha All Along?
You two deserve all the affection that we, the fans, have for you. They are both funny, naughty, intelligent, but they are also sensitive people who show empathy and real concern for making the world a more welcoming space. I love you.
Honestly, if there is a unifying agenda to this show's writing, it is the idea of presenting these extremely difficult conversations that we don't see enough of (if any) in general media. Some folks have complained that they're too pat or idealized, and they are - they are giving their viewers a "perfect" version of that conversation, arming them with some good things to say during them. I don't think people understand how much of our interactions with one another are framed by our media consumption, particularly where it comes to unusual or very private conversations. Not day to day stuff, but deep heart to heart stuff. Seeing the Big Drama of some media is fun, but when that's all you see about how to deal with a given situation or topic, it's not arming folks with what they need to navigate those conversations. (Admittedly, that's not a responsibility that entertainment has, but it's so fucking incredible to see someone deciding to use that power for good, you know?) Heartstopper's conversations are sometimes a little too idealized, these kids sometimes use very adult approaches and points of view while having them, but I think that's okay. Representation not just of queer people existing, but of queer people navigating the hard parts of our lives that we never see, and doing so in an emotionally mature, compassionate way is absolutely incredible.
As an asexual, seeing Isaac's journey coming to terms with his asexuality is amazing. The first time i watched this episode, that scene made me cry. His frustration, and questioning on how fits in his friendship group, hit me the hardest. I only discovered the term asexual when i was 28. I wish there was this representation when i was a teen. So many years feeling like i was abnormal or different /broken. I love this show.
As a fellow ace that didn't figure it out until their mid to late 20s, I feel this so much. I still struggle so much with my friends leaving me out of stuff because they're all getting together as couples or with their kids. It is really hard and Isaac's story really resonates so well. I am so happy that people can grow up with this now.
Same...I figured out that I'm ace ten years ago at 24, still took me four more years to learn that I'm also aromantic. Can't count the number of times I have cried over Issac...
I cried so hard here bc i know how hard it is. Im not even queer but mental health is just way too much and is worst when you are alone and cant talk to anyone.
These two episodes, 3 & 4 are like an amazing midseason finale. Next episode is outstanding in a lot of ways, but this one, just like the last one too, shows a lot of the actors talent and how damn good they've actually become. Everytime Kit look sad on camera I wanna cry and you believe Joe the struggle every single minute.
Isaac's scene is beautiful and so warm. I cried because I feel the same fear when I talked about my asexuality to my friends, because you don't know if they are going to understand you. We are not broken and we aren't weird people, we just don't think the sexuality in the way that the world teaches us. I love that this show put that on the spot and talk about it.
When I re-watch episodes, I make sure to re-watch the scene in which Isaac discusses his situation with ALL of the friend group together. I love that Nick caught on and spoke up first, showing he was getting it. And I loved that he revealed that when he first realized he liked Charlie, he cried at the Am I Gay quiz-- because he, too had to rethink who he is, who he would be, how his future would change -- in that moment. (By the way, afaik, that was the first time that Nick told *anybody* about crying at the Am I Gay Quiz. It was a big 'me too'.) 🩷💜💙
Just wanted to say you guys manage to make me smile and laugh when I need it, I am really enjoying your genuine reactions. From a fan in New Zealand :)
it was so hard for me to watch this season of the show it broke me mentally. this episode is the one that really messed me up it brought back all my bad memories of my teen self and self hate . if i had this as a teen to watch it would of saved me so much self pain. i love you guys so much bit cheesy to say but you really do bring so much joy to my life ❤❤🏳🌈
I feel we all too quickly forget these characters are teens and very much in their feelings. Whether in words or deeds, they are the product of their own traumas and the outcomes you see in Ben and in Tao and in Darcy are all just on a spectrum. Tao says words that can be as harmful as the actions taken by Ben and we are just more quick to forgive because we have this ingrained idea about sticks and stones but words seem more okay. We also have the bias of main character energy and intent we want to read into the characters.
It does get heavier in episode 4, but when I watched it, by the end I felt as though the sun was going to come out soon eventually. I feel that ep 5 showed how hard it is to translate the lessons found in episode 4 into your "normal" home life -- especially around relatives on Christmas. But there was still light pushing through the darkness.
Hey so this is random and you don’t have to do this but I want to see you watch “the newsreaders” it’s about you guessed it news reporters, I think you’d like it😅 it has 2 seasons and maybe season 3 is coming soon and it’s pretty gay ngl and the actor Sam Reid(lestat from iwtv) is in it anyways I just wanted to try my luck and if you don’t wanna watch it that’s completely understandable!!
YMMV Yes, episode 4 is heavy. Lots of content worth thinking about... BUT it is one of the best done episodes in the series. (Writing, acting, structure...) (Kit Connor went so far as to say that it is the best done episode in all of Heartstopper)
I'm a little sad that you cute off Issac mentioning being aromantic. Because there is even less representation for that than there is for asexuality. And also most of the things he mentions are probably more related to him being aromantic then they are to being asexual. Many asexual people, especially those that aren't aromantic want to have romantic relationships just as much as any allosexual person (though they have the additional challenge of navigating sexual expectations and needs within a relationship on top of the general stuff, especially if they are with an allosexual person). Allosexual / alloromantic are the corresponding term to asexual /aromantic by the way, like cis and trans. But apart from that I enjoyed the reaction a great deal, as usual. ❤
6th form is year 12 and 13 - Senior and junior year of high school (US). Secondary school is year 7 to year 11. Which is middle school plus freshman and sophomore year of high school (US).
I have a question. Is Isaac Aromantic? I know he's Asexual. But i feel like ive seen signs of him having romantic attachments, just not interested in anything physical/sexual.
It is possible to be ACE and demi-romantic (people who do not experience romantic attraction until they have formed a deep emotional connection with someone.)
Episodes 3 and 4 are truly why we’re a crying coven dedicated to protect Charlie all along.
Heh. I see what you did there. Count me in as a brother in the Coven.
I see what you did there. 😉❤️

@@767wattsy Thanks :)
Episode 3 and 4 have been the best in the entire series. So very emotional.

Joe is fantastic in this. You should also react to Agatha all along. It is super queer as well, and everyone is superb in it.
There is a reason this show is so popular, It's so well done

This this this
A lot of the people that think the series is cringe will likely find it again someday when it's needed most and I'm so glad it's there for them
24:22 The way this show made us care about Nick and Charlie, cleverly turns every dramatic scene with them heartcrushing.

It does get heavier in episode 4, but when I watched it, by the end I felt as though the sun was going to come out soon eventually.

Yeah, I was wondering who took that photo.
It was definitely Tao ;-)

Why are you wearing a black armband?
Guys please reaction to " love in the big city"
Dumb question maybe. What is 6th form ?
In us terms it should be senior year of high school, the last one.
6th form is year 12 and 13 - Senior and junior year of high school (US). Secondary school is year 7 to year 11. Which is middle school plus freshman and sophomore year of high school (US).
😢😢😢
I have a question. Is Isaac Aromantic? I know he's Asexual. But i feel like ive seen signs of him having romantic attachments, just not interested in anything physical/sexual.
Geat vid! please could u guys watch arcane
Episode 4 is going to destroy you both.
I think once Isaac settles into his identity, I think he might still date James. There does seem to be genuine affection there between them.
It is possible to be ACE and demi-romantic
