I love how the sex scenes focus on the intimacy rather than the, well, sex. It is so much more meaningful because it's showing the pillow talk and the cuddling and the love rather than focusing on the physical acts like sex scenes tend to. Really lovely direction and writing.
The conversation with Imogen was a mirror of Nick talking with her after cancelling the date in season one. They are both talking about finding out who their true self is and being able to overcome the pressure they felt to fit in.
Lots of mirroring in this episode - Charlie’s conversation with his mum echoes Nick coming out to his mum in s1 ep1 for instance, but also the scene of Charlie walking down the corridor positively glowing mirrors s1 e1 when he thought he was going to meet Ben in the library - and of course there’s also the mirroring of the scene you’ve just mentioned. Another reason to admire how beautifully written and constructed this show is!
I was watching heartstopper with my mum recently and she told me that she had a secret girlfriend in the 80s and they kept it secret because of the attitude towards queer people back then, and she never told anyone until now. I have recently realized that im aroace thanks to heartstopper and loveless and I just love this series and all of Alice’s works so much because they have helped so many people so much. ❤
I'd like a season 4 as well to fully conclude the story on screen. ❤️ I reckon Alice ended season 3 the way they did though in case it doesn't get renewed. It was a lonely ending if so (leaves one to make their own conclusion and be hopeful - if they haven't read the comics) but yes a 4th season would be fantastic.
regarding your comments at 24:45 i think they did two things, not just one: they dove into the hard stuff and didnt shy away from anything and yet didn't do trauma porn. Episode 4 alone could have been an entire season for regular tv programming, but it wasn't. They showed trauma without being traumatic. Episode 4 started out with a scene that told the viewer things were alright. And the voice-overs made difficult situations easy to watch knowing there was a "happy" ending coming. They did a very good job making a compelling story about hard topics engaging without the hard topics being the engagement
The conversation between Jane and Charlie can help parents understand their kids, and kids understand their parents, too. Thanks for your lovely reactions!
I couldn't imagine when I first saw the trailer for this season how Alice's scripts were going to be able to cover the plots from both Volumes 4 and 5 of the books (plus the stuff with Isaac and Imogen, who's aren't characters in the comic), but she did, in a way that really worked. Quite remarkable. She's been pretty clear that if there was to be a fourth series that it would almost surely be the last one, and like the Volume 6 of the book she's currently writing, it will bring the story to its conclusion. So the show can't go on forever, but I can see why people might want that!
The ending really is so sweet. It shows them doing it but in a way that they are comfortable. It doesn’t have to be as explicit as every other show to be good. And that’s what I like about it
I honestly really dont feel like Jane talking about a sleepover being a big step emotionaly was about just sex. Let's remember that she already thought they were sexually active back in August. In that scene we are at the end of May But yeah this season has been phenomenal and so gentle in its way of dealing with more mature topics without shying away from it. Whether it's on its portrayal of mental health issues and giving hope or the way it talked about sex. As a teen, I remember in shows aimed at our demographic, the way it was shown put a big pressure on kids and put lots of expectation in their heads. Putting a focus like Heartstopper on the emotional side of it, emphasising on taking your time and pushing away from the heteronormative definition of sex, 10/10 And I really hope we will get a 4th season, because as you said we saw a lot of the characters becoming more independent and confident in themselves. Except for Nick who is struggling a lot with it.
I was never so organised in my life as when I was long distance. I ferociously read all my textbooks and started all my essays well ahead of time on Mon, Tue, Wed, so that I could leave on the train Thursday afternoon after my last class, and have three nights a week with my boyfriend totally free and clear. Those weekends were all for us, and during the week I was making new friends at Uni, some of whom stuck for life. Agree Hearstopper is perfect. It’s in my top 5 TV series with Chernobyl, Band of Brothers, Generation Kill, and The Haunting of Hill House. It’s been such a pleasure revisiting it with you guys.
A lovely finish to an incredible third season, masterfully done in every way. I do think it’s a series that has gotten better with every season, which is not saying that the first two seasons were anything less than wonderful. It’s just so satisfying to see the character growth and the way complicated subject matter is dealt with intelligently and sensitively.
hi beautiful people, I loved your reaction as always! in the final scene in the comic the cliffhanger happens, with Nick telling Charlie he wants to go to Leads. I imagine since there is no confirmation of the next season they wanted to end with a happy scene. (in the comics it's also clear that they used the products Nick bought on the trip ☺️)
So proud of Charlie’s growth this season 😊 Great reaction as always! They said it took them 8 hours to film the sex scene, Kit said he enjoyed it 😂 they have the same intimacy coordinator since S1 so they feel comfortable
Hi guys, It's been wonderful going on this journey of Heartstopper with you it's sad that it has ended. Fingers crossed for a S4. There is an interview with Kit and Joe where they are talking about doing the sex scenes which took seven hours to film, Kit said it was really fun and Joe says to Kit , glad you enjoyed it babe. Lots of love from Australia.
Yay! If you're looking for something to fill the Heartstopper void-at least temporarily-may I recommend Big Boys? Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls) and Jon Pointing (Plebs) lead an ensemble cast as gay and straight uni students who become good friends. Deals with grief and mental health, sexuality, and a bunch of other topics with a deft touch. It's also often hilarious! Two series are now available in the US, and they're working on a third and likeky final series.
I’ve only seen season one so far but I adored it - great suggestion - especially as it doesn’t need to do the cliched ‘gay guy coming out to his best friend’ scene, it just takes that as written. Plus it’s hilarious and also deeply moving.
Great ending. All the important topics discussed. I thought about the cliffhanger idea. Heartstopper does not add cliffhangers because life is enough of one for this show
Thanks guys for this reaction to season 3 overall. Love your insights and comments. As an older gay man (born 1963) I really wish my parents would have had access to great series like that! The big problem with my parents was ignorance, really. They were highly educated people but had no experience of meeting any LGBTQ+ people. I am originally from Quebec City, Canada, and it was very easy there not to meet anyone who is not a "white straight, French speaking" person, especially when I came out. Now it is a little different but a bit late for my parents (91 and 98). Homophobia is always latent everywhere, but a show like that, is the best to send a positive message and explain things! Thanks for the show, and again for you guys for commenting. Loved it!
Despite this coming out in early october, we still don't know if it's been renewed for a fourth season (but it also hasn't been cancelled, so there's still hope)
I find what you Brits call long-distance dating very funny because in my country (Brazil) in kilometers, from north to south or from east to west, we have more than 4,000km. Everything here is distant. I even date a Brazilian who lives in California. It's 10,000km away and we are monogamous and have been dating for 5 years and 4 months. It's difficult, we suffer, but we choose to make it work.
Just speculating about Imogen: bisexual and aromantic? It's not only boys she didn't like enough to want them as her partners. As she's not in the graphic novels it's her story I really want to see developing in a potential season 4. Fingers crossed!
Wait, was that a libre? Sorry if this is personal (I'm happy to delete this if so, it's just cool when you find other people who relate), I hone in on this stuff as a person with...a certain medical condition 😅😂
The third season was boring and depressing, I kept hoping each new episode would get better but it never did. The final season was a complete waste of my time.
This was a beautiful finale and probably the best season yet! What fantastic representation!
And let's hope they actually do a season 4. There have been rumblings that they are ready to step away and continue to explore other projects.
@@VanVbcsllcit has been confirmed they're doing a season 4 after Alice finishes the comic on WebToon
the actor who plays micheal is such a good actor to. Completely different from his character

Apparently Alice wanted a couple more episodes for season 3 but the network said no because of there not being enough money in the budget…

Is this a daft question, but was that Kit Connor singing the final song? It sounded a lot like him, but I'm not sure.
Canadian here .. 4 hours isn’t really that far here! My province ( Ontario) you can drive like 16 hours and still be in Ontario!! lol😂😂
Haha, If I drive for 4 hours I will already be in 2 countries.
