We bought a 2.7 ranger two days ago, and are super stoked. The 2.3 is ok, but my test drives were of an empty truck….the 2.7 is more smooth and more instant power/torque Can’t wait to get a few thousand miles on the truck and start to open up the throttle
Timing of this video is really weird. Looks like they found a memory stick in a bottom of a drawer and realized oh crap we forgot we did this intro 6 months ago! :)
a 45k 4 cylinder truck with a basic interior is way overpriced. For that amount of money it should at least come with the v6. not ever a bed liner, I like the ranger but the value proposition is horrible. I don't care about the huge screen or other comforts just give me a decently priced 4x4 that can do some mild offroad and be used for house projects and wont cost me 50k.
If you think this is a bad value proposition, you should try to spec a Tacoma. TFL (The Fast Lane Car) paid 45k for their Tacoma and it's pretty basic inside. Trucks, in general, are crazy expensive now.
4 cylinder dude you gotta add the complexity of turbocharging that adds to the price and the fact that turbo engines have better materials than naturally aspirated as they have to withstand harsher conditions of force induction.
Might want to check the tire pressure if it seems to shutter over some road imperfections. The recommended air pressure is 30 to 35 psi. The Ranger rides much better with the tire pressure set correctly. When overinflated, it is notably more harsh and jittery. I have 2024 Ranger XLT and have noticed the ride improve with mileage. I have been very impressed with it and really enjoy driving it. The truck is maneuverable, nimble, and very quiet. Best of all, is the fuel economy. Only complaint I have is Ford needs to improve the lane-keeping assist as it expects you to keep 2 hands on the steering wheel and the constant reminders on that is annoying. So I turned it off. Other than that, I think Ford has made a real gem with the new Ranger.
No kidding. I want a supercab with more box space. I won't buy this unless a supercab is offered. Supposedly, there's supercab coming sometime in 2025. Cross your fingers.
What about it's predicted reliability? What was the reliability rating for the outgoing model? This feels more like a sales video rather than what you used to get from CR.
It'll probably be recommended. The outgoing model was pretty good and the powertrain remains basically the same. Yeah, this is just their "Hey, we finally got our Ranger" sneek peek. They'll put out all the results when they're done testing it.
The Ranger is competitively priced. Big mistake though in ending the Super Cab for those who want better fit in garage, longer bed, and lower base price.
You know how enjoyable and informative "Talking Cars" is? This Early Review is not: there's no need to have blaring rock music playing at every pause: silence is not your enemy.
I have had and XLT FX4 since April and I have issues. The giant screen sucks. It sucks for safety reasons due to having to constantly look where your finger placement is (as your finger moves all round to screen while you are driving) or you are changing the wrong station or turning on the defrost or dash vents when you are trying to do something else. Buttons and knobs for the controls are a lot safer and easier to do. Ford told me that the Apple car play has issues connecting. The volume on Apple car play some times doesn't work. The numbers and line go up and down but no change in volume or they don't appear at all. Sometimes there is sound and sometimes there is no sound. The remote start shuts off within a minute some times without touching the remote. The timer is set to 15 minutes. Ford says there is nothing they can do about any of these issues. The rest are Ford caused issues, not broken parts. The rear locker does not disengage when taken out of 4x4. You must go into the giant screen menu to disengage it. At the very least it should be a button near the shifter (NO SCREEN). The 2.3L is the jerkyest motor during acceleration I have ever driven. The head tech guy at the Ford dealer drove it and stated that it is just like all of the others Rangers. No rear vents or active cruise control with the XLT FX4. The Base Honda CRV at $14,000 less has rear vents and active cruise control.
Ok truck if it was not over priced. Like the looks and size. I gave driven that 4cly in other applications and thought it was fine. We need simple affordable trucks. Nice review.
They mentioned the 3 l twin turbo V6. But they didn't mention how. If you do the factory tune from Ford. Ford warns that the engine can get damaged because of the tune. And it's up to the dealer if it's going to be under warranty. So most likely it's going to be not under warranty.
Nice machine but I don't trust Ford or most manufacturers. I would only buy a machine after it's been in production for a few years and most of the problems are known, have been fixed or the fix will be affordable. Build quality is extremely variable, repair costs can be crazy and for a 1 car home waiting time can be excessive.
So annoying how they complain about the ride quality. It is a truck for Pete’s sake with a pay load capacity of over 1800 lbs and a towing capacity of.7500 lbs. Go buy a sedan and keep testing those washing machines.
and they wonder why the Maverick is taking over the sales of the small compact segment over this old medium truck that's way overpriced and offers way less for the money
Too much money for this or any new so-called small pickup truck. I don’t need or want a four door pickup truck. Ford and other car companies made a big mistake doing away with the extended cab pickup. To me a four door pickup is just a big car with a bed behind it that’s not big enough to carry long equipment. It’s a good thing Nissan still offers the Frontier in an extended cab model. For now I’ll just hold on to my 1989 Toyota extended cab pickup that’s been very reliable never let me down and works for me.
This is the standard name they use for the first review they do. They just received it and are giving an "early review". They'll keep testing it for months and come out with a "final review" with all the details from the tests.
IMHO 30% worse, redesign. Ford put an improved 2.3L engine in Ford Explorer, Ranger, same 2.3L engine as 2023. Not to mention $2K extra for 2.7L in 2024 Ranger.
Nix the stop start junk, nix the 10 speed (please...) use a Mazda traditional 6 speed bullet proof tranny or better, the venerable German ZF series 8 speed. Nix useless spoiled Millenial powder puff crap amenities, give it decent bare essentail features and affordable pricing and it's sell likehot cakes time. Never going to happen.
No mention of the 2.7 v6 option? Did CR not do their research?
I accidentally posted the same thing before seeing your comment.
We bought a 2.7 ranger two days ago, and are super stoked.
The 2.3 is ok, but my test drives were of an empty truck….the 2.7 is more smooth and more instant power/torque
Can’t wait to get a few thousand miles on the truck and start to open up the throttle
They never have.
The 2.7 wasn't available yet, at the time.
These prices are just insane. $40k + for a barebones interior, but i guess it has a giant screen. Definitely adds $10k in value alone
How is this early!?!?!? It’s been out for a while now. And why not mention the available 2.7 V6?😊
This is just the one that they bought to put through their testing.
What about the optional 2.7 TT 6?
Good grief.... When was this filmed? The Raptor is already out and has been for a while.
No kidding. I’ve had a ranger Raptor in my driveway since May.
Someone must have been on sabbatical. There are reports about 2025 changes being posted.
Timing of this video is really weird. Looks like they found a memory stick in a bottom of a drawer and realized oh crap we forgot we did this intro 6 months ago! :)
LOL exactly what I was thinking.

Price the other midsize trucks.
Ranger, Colorado, Canion is all the same, naturally aspirated V6 only Frontier💪and the prices are almost the same.
If you think this is a bad value proposition, you should try to spec a Tacoma. TFL (The Fast Lane Car) paid 45k for their Tacoma and it's pretty basic inside. Trucks, in general, are crazy expensive now.
$60,000 out the door, with a 2.3l!?!
Yuck

The deal killer for me is that you can only get a crew cab. C'mon Ford. Sometimes all you want is an inexpensive work truck.
No kidding. I want a supercab with more box space. I won't buy this unless a supercab is offered. Supposedly, there's supercab coming sometime in 2025. Cross your fingers.
What I don't like is the small bed. Why they didn't make it with a 6 fot bed like the old ones.
Bring back the single cab!!!
Like the late 70's Ford in the background on the in the shop scenes! Looked nice!
Need to offer 6 foot bed
What about it's predicted reliability? What was the reliability rating for the outgoing model? This feels more like a sales video rather than what you used to get from CR.
It's a Ford. No need to predict reliability. It will be poor.
It'll probably be recommended. The outgoing model was pretty good and the powertrain remains basically the same. Yeah, this is just their "Hey, we finally got our Ranger" sneek peek. They'll put out all the results when they're done testing it.
You're watching a free TH-cam video. Quit complaining!
I'm gonna get the xlt sport with 2.7l
That's the only way to go, mine is built and shipped, should be arriving by the end of the month. I only wish the Tremor was available.
its gonna be a rocket lol
Were is this truck manufactured, and is it the same truck supplied to Australia and South Africa?
Make trucks small and affordable again, like the Maverick.
The Ranger is competitively priced. Big mistake though in ending the Super Cab for those who want better fit in garage, longer bed, and lower base price.
My favorite Jen!!! I come from a Ford family... to me this design appears well wall past the expiration date!
You know how enjoyable and informative "Talking Cars" is? This Early Review is not: there's no need to have blaring rock music playing at every pause: silence is not your enemy.
Cutting edge info, what is going on at Consumer Reports ?

Do you have any news if the ranger plug-in will come to North America?
2026
Are endless recalls included for the price?
Don't be so dramatic
One big miss is the lack of rear seat ventilation - Ford cost cutting and a bad decision in my opinion.
Ford still pushing the dumb vertical screen that nobody liked to begin with. Oh did I add it takes your eyes further from the road.
The best thing about "world trucks" is proper amber rear turn signals, unlike most USDM trucks that have unacceptable red rear turn signals.
For the life of me I will never understand pickups with a uselessly short bed.
They don't care. They make what sells. This is what sells.
Ok truck if it was not over priced. Like the looks and size. I gave driven that 4cly in other applications and thought it was fine. We need simple affordable trucks. Nice review.
idk i like the key turn more than a push start.
It is a completely new platform with carryover engine for four cylinder.
Nice review. It would be interesting to compare with the Nissan Frontier. The Ranger is a sharp looking truck but too expensive.
Nothing like the og rangers, sad how they dont make small body trucks anymore.
Ridgeline is the way to go.
Agree 100%
The Ford Ranger is the biggest selling vehicle in Australia.
They mentioned the 3 l twin turbo V6. But they didn't mention how. If you do the factory tune from Ford. Ford warns that the engine can get damaged because of the tune. And it's up to the dealer if it's going to be under warranty. So most likely it's going to be not under warranty.
It has a real key. Your kidding. And this is a good point!
That's such horseshit. You know people can just go to the page for the tuner and see it's 49 state legal and has a 3yr/36k mile warranty
Don’t play music at the same time your talking
The real truck in the background
Why the Raptor tow less with a bigger and more powerful engine?
Because of the softer suspension. All trucks with a more pliable suspension have a lower max. towing.
@@Dusdaddy exactly, its also a heavier truck with 33s, its not just about power

Some trucks ride better than others. That is worth discussing.
@M1911jln, that's what I felt too, comparing the ride to other trucks
honda ridgeline has good ride quality
nuff said
Looks like a frontier now
and they wonder why the Maverick is taking over the sales of the small compact segment over this old medium truck that's way overpriced and offers way less for the money
Had to thumbs down the video. It’s several months behind the times
That's a lot of money for a mid-size pickup truck.
Make a single cab with a stick and we can talk😊
Why is my middle school math teacher showing me a truck??😂
Really, why is the guy who flunked middle school math commenting 😂.
FYI, this lady holds a degree in mechanical engineering. No small task, as I laboured through and achieved the same ME designation.
Nice review.

I'm sorry, but this vehicle is nothing but a jacked up car with a trunk that has no lid.
How Old is this video ? she says ' Were getting a Ranger Raptor' Seriously ?
You should expect a push button too at the price. Insulting by Ford.
IMHO 30% worse, redesign. Ford put an improved 2.3L engine in Ford Explorer, Ranger, same 2.3L engine as 2023. Not to mention $2K extra for 2.7L in 2024 Ranger.
😂😂😂
Unbelievably ugly. What were they thinking. That f150 front end doesn't translate well to the ranger or the maverick.
JFC how much for this thing!?!! not on yer life

Junk
Fail
ford danger on your wallet
Massive logos and branding everywhere on a massively overpriced unnecessary behemoth.
Bring back the ‘11 Ranger, ffs.
She is the worst host at CR. Keep her off camera.
