    How does this video only have 3000 likes and over half a million views? It should have so many more. People get so caught up in consuming the info they forget to give back just a little bit of gratitude.

    Out of all the Lighting Hopkins tutorials on TH-cam this is one of very few that even comes close to approximating the sound and style of Hopkins. Well done!

    I get pulled away from blues here and there. Classical, a little folk, americana, country, shred, you name it. But then videos like this (and a masterful teacher like Ernie!) pull me right back in. I have had some very deep emotions come from the guitar (Pachelbel's Canon in D in a cathedral as the bride walks down the aisle...) but then this....this music comes back to me and hits me fresh and I fall in love with blues all over again. It's amazing. I wish more people (NON-guitarists) wanted to hear it.

    Luvly..luvly...luvly. You sure do play sweet music man. My father, Ernie Hawkins, was sure an inspiration to me...the goodest, kindest man I ever knew...and now you are an inspiration to me on my guitar. I will learn this if it kills me...and it probably will. Thank you Ernie.

    Thank you for putting this up. In a world full of ignorance and people jealous of their s
    ecrets, you have been a refreshing change to me. I grew up in the Delta and knew some of the old players but did not have sense enough, as Eden Brent did, to ask for lessons. We just hung out and I never thoight of trying to play their stuff. My bad. Thank you again.

    Thanks Ernie! I have my treasured Lightning Hopkins DVD you made many moons ago somewhere in my house... but I can't find it!? So glad that I could find you teaching Ol' Lightning here on TH-cam because you are *the best* at teaching Lightnin' by a country mile!!

    Yeah, learn that and your saved. I love Lightnin.One of the first things I learned back in the 50s along with Jimmie Reed.Love your videos ,you are a great teacher.

      +coldplay xyloto Sorry for that I changed the word to saved ....and I won't be goin straight to hell. Thanx for a reply .On a side note I was at a party and this guy hands me an acoustic guitar minus one string.He hands me a new string and while and after I got it tuned I played that C cord on the fifth while playing the shuffle in E. When I stopped people were like don't stop,no play a bit more. I felt like a million bucks,thanx. I'm 70 years old and still learnin everyday.

    • @rpmblues7018
      @rpmblues7018 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +coldplay xyloto That's great I am self taught also. In 1963 I started a surf band called the"Panics" I was 17 years old. I learned off records that my dad had like Jimmy Reed ,Son House and others but I lived in Southern California and the Surf craze was blazin so Dick Dale ,the Ventures and so on. It was fun but only lasted a few years ,then I went back to the stuff I started with and my true love. Good luck brother life is a long road.

    There are a few blues artists I wish I could have had a chance to talk to and learn from. But my top five are John Lee Hooker, Sam "Lightnin" Hopkins, R.L. Burnside, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and Blind Willie Johnson. Those five I wish I could have spent even just a day with. Thank you for the lesson.

      ive been practicing lightnings style for a while now, and the only thing i played was blues, but then i figured that this fingerstyle was easy to adapt to other genre's. lightning opened a door to different styles, i wonder if it would work the other way around.

    Your comments take me back to a moment in 1971, playing at the Family Hand restaurant in Houston. Sam just showed up so I asked if I could play bass for him. Naturally, I asked to tune up...he just said 'Nah baby, I'm already in tune' ( he wasn't)
    So I just adjusted on the fly...it was the same for everyone, I guess.
