The biggest letdown is the main parts of cities, stores, restaurants and clubs are locked behind other packs. And not being able to build your own apartments
In my main save, I’ve gone in and added a store, a cafe, a really sketchy bar, and I converted the lounge into an insanely fancy rental lot “hotel” that only my richest sims can afford to stay for even a day. But vanilla? Not as fun as that
City living is just THAT girl for me. I had two of my female sims move in together in an apartment and it’s been so fun. One of them even adopted a toddler and now the two friends are basically parenting him. I’m planning on having them live together for a while
I'll always recommend this as a first pack. I've gotten the most gameplay out of it and I feel like if you only get one of each pack this is the best bang for your buck when it comes to an ep.
Agree, it was one of my first packs and really gave me something different from the base game worlds. If you don’t have seasons, the festivals give your sims a reason to go out and the apartments lets you play with a different sort of lifestyle. I just wish they weren’t fake highrises and actual playable full buildings.
This was my go to can't live without, until Growing Together. I think they are both needed as CL is more geared towards YA gameplay and GT is about each generation.
@@DenbrrI actually love the challenge of raising families in apartments it’s a different style of play. I also tweaked the city park so it was more family friendly. There’s so many ways to play families…city, suburbia, farm life. And I like doing a little of them all in my family rotation. The only way I play a single adult is when an adult child of one of my families moves out, but usually eventually they are married and having kids as well.
I feel like if you are an "asthetic" type of player Sims 4 is decent for you. Players who engage in alot of build buy, alot of CAS, a lot of decoration. Basically anything that falls into the category of visual spectacle, you get yours. If you are a gameplay sort of simmer, Sims4 just doesnt have much for you.
i think it would be cool if we could turn on/off the festival notifications after interacting with the information stands in san myshuno, like a sim stumbling upon it and learning the event schedule
That would be what I would like. I also want a way to turn ON notifications for the festivals for Sulani which is the opposite problem. If we had a way to go to a location and turn on or off notifications for a world that would be lovely.
@@Denbrr I have mods that can do that. The point is to have it be a game function that doesn’t require mods. Also, I would love the game play of going to a place and unlocking or locking the festivals.
I've been waiting on your review of my favorite pack! Love it; i just knew it would be rated highly. I play in apartments 90% of the time because I'm from NYC, I was raised in an apartment from birth-adulthood for the most part (couple houses in between), and for me, nothing beats city life! For building and living, I just live the simplicity of a smaller, single level space! Especially if i want to do rotational style gameplay like back in sims 2.... I have a "culpepper house rotational" save . City living is just the best pack to me!
I wanted to add that changing the max som count from 80 to 200 (EA has a recommendation based on your specs I think....you can follow it or ignore it) seems to help with the emptiness of common areas. In general, spice market never feels empty in my game, while the arts district and uptown are emptier. To me this is realistic though; if I use NYC as a reference..... People are always outside chilling in the Bronx and Harlem, whereas if you go to the Upper East Side people aren't just "hanging out" on the block or whatever. If I think of it like that it doesn't break immersion.
@@shem_gem Spice market never look empty in my game neither. I also have a mod to increase the limit of sims per lot, so its always look very alive. but even before the mod the spice always have some walking sims. The most empty area is that big park because sims spaw in far away places instead of in the entrance of the park.
I always thought that City Living was overrated. ...until i got that pack (for half price, obviously not the full price). And it's actually quite good. And i love the CAS, so versatile with lots of cultural outfits. The festivals are also decorated well and feel alive/busy.
Interesting hearing your takes on city living being about young adults in the city. Which I agree with as far as design, but as far as types of people some people just vibe with the city and I love playing toward that kid who always grew up in and around the city with his city friends falling for a country girl really cute. And I like the challenge of raising kids in apartments with less options to expand.
Awww that’s so cute! Hahahah do I hear some longing? 😂 U a city girl or country girl? I always love to play rags to riches as a vampire or wizard, that rises to fame and buys the biggest luxury apartment in the city. 💁♀️ 😂😂😂 The longing is REAL!
@@gabiausten8774I was a born and raised city kid who deffo longed for greener pastures and a slower pace as an adult, lol. But oddly I love playing city living with families. Maybe because it feels like how I grew up. Having two kids in an apartment sharing a too small room who who go out to the basketball court or local park to play and don’t have a back yard is very real to me. 😅
I always appreciate your brutally honest reviews. I really like this pack, probably one of the best. The only thing that bugs me, other than not being able to build apartments, is that doors don't disappear when playing with walls down, or partly down. For some reason they thought it was a good idea to make it that way, when it wasn't like that to begin with. Just like "fixing" the photography glitch. Why? No one asked you to "fix" it.
I think its a bug. You can notice how the walls also have weird cuts if you use half stand up mode. There is some triangles, and we shouldnt see the inside of the other apartments.
@@yasminni485 Not a solution, but I shrink the size of doors, I make them very tiny so I dont see them during gameplay. And try to use open floorplan to avoid use doors. If the new pack come with apartment maybe they will finally fix this in the update.
@@augusto7681 thanks. I actually tried that once but I think my OCD/Autism won't let me play that way, lol. I hope you are right and this pack comes with apartments.
This was one of my first ever packs and I'm so glad I got it! Whenever I play the sims 4 this is a pack I'll always return to as I feel it has the most content for me and is a joy to play. I only wish apartments were an actual lot type for the gallery as I'm not very creative and tend to use other players builds !
I love the karaoke machine but it has always bothered me with how obnoxiously loud it is and I can't hear anything else but that LOL. I would say this pack is definitely one of my favorites though mainly because of the apartments but also the cas/build buy. They even added a few decent careers.
For me this pack shows why having weather as an afterthought for another packs can be a huge problem. Sometimes festiwals are in winter (love festiwal) and all of the flowers you can normally pick are dead. Some bars are very open like in style (the cheap karaoke one and the super expensive) so going there in bad weather is a nightmare. Also before adding platforms they were experimenting with different hight of floring in one of the bars with leads to snow on the flor doring winter. Over all pack is great but as a Seasons DLC pack owner i have to say, that this pack is super annoying
I got all the expansion packs in about a 1 year time span, so I didn’t really get an in-depth look at each one as I got it. I love these reviews as I find things I’ve missed or didn’t realize came with that particular pack. I didn’t think I used City Living much, but most of my sims get married at the big park, I buy ingredients from the stalls, take my sims to festivals for dates, and the real reason I bought this pack earlier than some others, all the lot traits and challenges. On the other hand, I hardly ever have my sims live in this world, and I was devastated to find out you couldn’t build your own apartment buildings. That was something I absolutely loved to do in Sims 2.
I love City Living alot actually, but ofc it has its flaws. The CAS overall is actually really nice ESPECIALLY the head wraps. The build mode is quite nice,I like the "used" stuff cuz it adds to story and I like the debug decor as well. As for Gameplay, I like the festivals however it's really buggy most times. The festivals all end at 1 I think, but it ALWAYS bleeds into like 3-4 unless you end it yourself🤦🏽♀️i love the food stalls and how there's quite alot to eat and learn to make. I love the apartments however I don't love that you 1. Can't make your own and 2. SIMS CONSTANTLY GET STUCK! It's so freaking annoying bc I don't want sims to just die in the apartment next to the family I'm playing so now I have to play them to get them out and with ALL the loading screens it takes so long. Besides those things, I actually like this pack alot and I would never get a sims pack not on sale but this is one of VERY FEW I would recommend.
this was my first ever pack i ever bought and even though now i own most packs this one will always be a fav! i had so much fun with just this pack installed for a year!
I wish they would fix that fucking wall glitch in apartments. It’s been almost two years and they still haven’t fixed it. I miss when the apartments were playable and not a fucking eyesore.
Thanks for this. I usually don't buy expansions, but considering everything's on sale now, thought it might be worth it. Your review pushed me over the edge into giving it a try, even though I personally hate cities- but I love my Sims in it. Watching my Sim grab Geoffrey Landgrabb out of a crowd in a Karaoke Bar and have him try to sing- that alone was worth the price. Hilarious!
Honestly, not a bad "only pack" to have. Imagine if you only had Horse Ranch, High School Years, or (gods forbid) Wedding Stories. Way less stuff to do.
I LOVE the fact there is a range of CAS items and that I can use it to make more diverse Sims. I combine City Living and Fashion Street items often. The biggest let down for me is not being able to build your own apartments. Really disappointing and a huge oversight. Also, why are their apartments so huge?? As a capital city dweller myself the apartments in this pack are not representative, we needed more small apartments with short wall height instead of apartments that have a larger floor plan than most houses I've lived in. But overall, I really rate City Living as an EP and had fun with it! Especially if bought on sale or from a key site. Thanks for the review Satch :)
City living is my favorite pack! I bought it when I was still in highschool and playing the sims 4 on my MacBook, which sounded like it was about to take off. I had to use headphones just to drown out the sound of the fans cuz it was so horrible to hear. But the pack provided some much needed escapism and I was absolutely obsessed. I‘m curious to hear what you think. ☺️
Every single day I miss how they made apartments in The Sims 2. It really had the best functionality, IMO, and you could easily build them from the ground up. Considering Sims 4 has the same qualities as TS2 regarding loading screens, etc., it doesn't make sense why they made the apartments so bad in this iteration.
The festivals in this pack is my favorite thing about it. My sims' friends often will call and invite out to the festivals. I hate the noisy neighbors feature. It was amusing at first but the novelties of apartments wore off quickly for me.
At the time I bought the pack, a very annoying bug occurred all the time in the events, the objects were crossing each other, and the place always seemed terribly disorganized. Thank God they fixed that, it gave me a lot of affliction
Several of the fancy gown make better wedding gowns than those from My Wedding Stories... Festival notification : Those should be switchable when living elsewhere. Activate if you want to participate, disable if you don't.
The only reason I bought this pack cuz it makes huge difference in the gameplay cuz when u make a sim for a start , realistically u don’t make them live in a house so apartments make the game feels more realistic to me
9:20-9:32 Oregonian from mid valley Eugene here. There are some mounted police in Portland as well as a horse-drawn buggy ride. I always enjoy spotting them whenever I get the chance to visit that city. (Been a few years though; things have gotten quite dystopian...I just hope they still have the horses.)
The only thing I have found that consistently fixes that empty and nothing going on as far as gameplay is to use MCCC to increase zone population spawned. Try 10 sims more and see how your computer can handle it. I have a really good computer and start getting into trouble at about 20 (with a ton of mods.)
I really love this pack, I seem to use the CAS all the time and I love living in an apartment. I keep mini goats and sheep as pets in my apartments. An issue I have is my Sims become too obsessed with the basketball, they will cancel actions so they can go play.
Hah, Foldy. I just did a bunch of recolors of that damn folding chair. City Living is one of my all time favorite packs for build/buy, gameplay, and the world. It's such a good ripoff of San Fran.
Now THIS is what I call an expansion pack, not that weird "Sims 4 For Rent." They started off making the expansions packs good and you would hope that as time went on, each expansion pack moving forward would be great, amazing and even more detailed but unfortunately the sims decided to do the opposite. That's unfortunate but at least City Living is a pack that is worth buying!
I rember when the pack came out there used to be more sims walking around, they even updated the game so there would be 20% more sims around in every word. They might have changed that since for the lag, cause sims 4 of course
I think there should be a new version of City Living and it must include every apartment open and a mall. I felt dissapointed when i realized you can't shop from those big buildings. Also cities are crowded. There should be more people jogging or just passing by.
Tysm got this review I was just thinking of getting CL but I wanted to see your perspective first Also can you bring back more gameplay with Shanice and Shantel like the back rooms and locking them in a basement 😂 it’s always a lot of fun Love u Satch ❤ EDIT: A five nights at Freddy’s gameplay would be hilarious
I love love love this pack, I use it more often than any other pack (and I regret saying I own almost all expansion and game packs), I'm just like you - starting off with a single young adult sim. Whenever I decide to start a family I move them into a house. My latest gameplay I used the Simda mod and my sim got pregnant from her hookup, so this was a bummer 😂
I generally enjoy this pack. I do wished the politician career would have been a bit more fleshed out. I can do a protest for a specific cause, but it doesn't change the gameplay. But overall, yes, it's a nice pack!
I think the city setting looks quite low res, especially the buildings in the fashion district and uptown areas. And I know it’s a city but everywhere has this boring grey appearance, except for the spice market.
Its my favorite world because it look like a real city with all the grey LOL. I also like Del Sol Valley for the same reason. The building look low res because its a old pack. Their quality of textures was different back then.
@@augusto7681 I agree, I do like the aesthetic of the city style worlds, but I just think with so few lots, it’s hard to really alter the way it looks. The traditional windenburg neighbourhood with all its cobblestone looks nice but I liked it a lot more after replacing all the lots with ones from the gallery which had enough added greenery that it became a more pleasing area to play in and gave it a little more life, I guess
The Sims should have modeled all packs after City Living as a base line of the needed gameplay, immersiveness, social elements, little tidbits of life and action and reasons to explore...its just such a shame we basically peaked with this
Just getting the hang of the game after being only a sims 2/3 player and the festival announcement even though you don’t live in the world made me think of this: why is there vacation travel in the game but also there’s no point cause your sim can just travel to any world, any lot at any time, and get the same loading screen? Like I can “vacation” in San Sequoia but why. I can also just travel to anything in SS. And when I travel I stay on a vacation lot but why. There’s nothing to do there. The “interesting” stuff is still the community lots that I need to “travel” to. What’s the point
My main disappointment was that I need to see a loading screen to visit my neighboors. But I think thats more a issue of sims 4 in general than the pack by itself. If we could rearrange the interior layout, like split one big aparmtne in 2, that would be very good.
Omg I don't mind this pack but I've played Sims 3 and the world of Bridgeport has really no comparison to this. Literally none! There were so many fun lots to go to and activities to engage and it was inbounded with the other Sims 4 pack Get Famous so you didn't have to buy another pack to get VIP stuff... I miss Sims 3 gameplay😢
This is my favorite pack, too. Even if my sim isn't living in an apartment (though often they do), they always come here for the festivals. I like how rare plants will be growing in planters and free for the taking! XD And trying new foods is fun. I like that it's always busy with sims hanging out there. I didn't know you could change the lot type of penthouses. That's sweet!
i live in a city in the south ( i dont wanna specifiy loll) but people riding horses is actually wierdly common. I have a friend who went thru the dam jack in the box drive thru with his horse x_x
I disagree about not seeing anyone in the world I’m playing in this world at the moment in the spice quarter and it always has loads of townies hanging out, buying food, playing instruments. It’s not a mod as I don’t play with mods or cc.
Idk if this just a bug or has happened to anyone else but I've had a Sims living in apartment and after the festival end. All the festival stuff when into my 'household inventory' and I couldn't sell or get rid of it. 🙄 It was super annoying.

Just featured my sims Satch in a mod/cc organization tips video. Got a kick out of dressing him in bad cc that needed deleting. 😊
I think it's a bit strange that if you create a community lot and add a food stall your visiting sim has to pay 100 simoleans to man the stall.
It's the only Sims 4 EP I've ever preordered aka bought for the full-price. Still my most fav though.
The only thing I have found that consistently fixes that empty and nothing going on as far as gameplay is to use MCCC to increase zone population spawned. Try 10 sims more and see how your computer can handle it. I have a really good computer and start getting into trouble at about 20 (with a ton of mods.)
i love this pack, i always pick an apartament in san myshuno as my sims first home, i love the festivals, bb mode and cas is alright too
The festivals are my favorite part of the game, so I want notifications no matter where I'm living.
It’s now free on console GET IT NOW BEFORE YOUR LATE
The fact we can’t do our own flats is bad T_T
I really love this pack, I seem to use the CAS all the time and I love living in an apartment. I keep mini goats and sheep as pets in my apartments. An issue I have is my Sims become too obsessed with the basketball, they will cancel actions so they can go play.
This was my first sims 4 expansion pack that I got and ever since I honestly just can't imagine not having this pack lol
Not to mention the loud neighbors NEVER shut up after you bang their door so your sim can't sleep
Hah, Foldy. I just did a bunch of recolors of that damn folding chair. City Living is one of my all time favorite packs for build/buy, gameplay, and the world. It's such a good ripoff of San Fran.
Im sure the new city type pack coming is gonna be no different sadly. Might look cool but game play won't be much and city won't be active enough.
Wow earliest I've ever been on any video ever. Your awesome! 🎉❤
I didn’t even know you can’t upload apartments to the gallery! I’m offended
I rember when the pack came out there used to be more sims walking around, they even updated the game so there would be 20% more sims around in every word. They might have changed that since for the lag, cause sims 4 of course
Honestly I always have sims walking around when I go out in San Myshuno.
I think there should be a new version of City Living and it must include every apartment open and a mall. I felt dissapointed when i realized you can't shop from those big buildings. Also cities are crowded. There should be more people jogging or just passing by.
I love the little things in this pack. Like the video game consoles
Ooooo been waiting for this one, yay! 🎉
this is my favorite ep for the sims 4
Tysm got this review I was just thinking of getting CL but I wanted to see your perspective first
Also can you bring back more gameplay with Shanice and Shantel like the back rooms and locking them in a basement 😂 it’s always a lot of fun
Love u Satch ❤
EDIT: A five nights at Freddy’s gameplay would be hilarious
Great review. This is definitely one of my favorite packs! Agree with your score ^.^
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
I really wanted to make my own flats it has cool stuff but disappointed
My main disappointment was that I need to see a loading screen to visit my neighboors. But I think thats more a issue of sims 4 in general than the pack by itself. If we could rearrange the interior layout, like split one big aparmtne in 2, that would be very good.
Is this the first pack that Satch has rated a category as a 10/10!
Only correction to the video: it was "I am Legend" not "I Robot" from Will Smith and I totally get the vibes 🤣
"Buy this pack (when it's 50% off)." Loved this comment. *thumbs up* indeed
I think the movie you are thinking of is "I Am Legend"
Really appreciate this review. Thank you!
Honestly its a fun pack but bad expansion pack. Doesnt come with any expansive gameplay system
my first dlc :')
City Living is amazingggg, I love it too!
hey, what would you recommend to get - City Living or For Rent? I think I need both of them, but not sure which one should be prioritized 🤔
How could there be stuff for infants and toddlers they didn't even exist when this pack was released
Brb waiting for the next sale so I can get this pack
Idk if this just a bug or has happened to anyone else but I've had a Sims living in apartment and after the festival end. All the festival stuff when into my 'household inventory' and I couldn't sell or get rid of it. 🙄 It was super annoying.
My favorite pack ❤
City Living has great debug stuff.
Are the events coming automatically or do you need to plan them?❤
You were thinking of "I am Legend" with will smith, not "I robot" lol
i hate designing houses, only like decorating them so this pack is perfect for me
Not enough apartments and not enough middle ground apartments at all
Just so you know in Texas we have horses In major cities.
It’s sucks that we can’t even choose what floor we want our sims to live on. Only one floor?
I love sims 4 but they need a quality check and continue to update their older packs.
there's no toddler or infant stuff here because they didn't exist on the game when the pack came out lol
