- You will see why the Shropshire Union Canal quickly became one of our favourite canals that we have cruised since we starting exploring the UK canal network on our narrowboat. With it's stunning bridges and lush green corridor and beautiful little towns and villages on the way, it's just how we imagined our life to be when we sold up and bought a narrowboat to live on! There was far too much gorgeous footage to cram into one video so check out our other upcoming Shroppie videos! In this episode we cruise from Autherley Junction to Gnosall, stopping at Brewood on the way.
Hello! If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete! In 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!

I just love your blogs. The English countryside & weather in every season, the music, your calm approach, even the colour of your beautiful home are all soul food. Thank you so much.
Such a a beautiful comment Deborah. So lovely to hear you are enjoying the vlogs 😊
What gorgeous countryside. I just watched this while having my breakfast. I feel like I’ve been on a holiday. Great way to start the day. Thank you.
That’s so lovely to hear Carolyn! Thanks for watching 😊
Another funny story. My late other halfwas moored at Wheaton Aston by the lock for a while and decided to see if possible to generate electric from the overflow, needless to say the Waterways ( not CRT in those days) told him in no uncertain terms not to do it lol. Also in the same lock some American tourists were stuck because they had put all 4 paddles up so weren’t going anywhere, Paul offered his assistance to do the lock and many photos were taken as he jumped across the beams as he was wearing a kilt at the time ! 😂😂
That made us laugh! The image of a guy in a kilt jumping the locks! Entertaining for those tourists! Thanks for watching 😊
Lovely from first to last🥰
So glad you enjoyed it. It’s such a beautiful canal 😊
All those beautiful bridges. This trip looked so lovely and something you would see out of a movie.
It really is such a beautiful canal and we I’m just finishing editing the next section with our most favourite bridge! It’s been lovely reliving this journey. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Ohhh I can't wait to see it! You're vlogs of the canal had me putting "canal boating through UK/Wales" on my wish list.
Beautiful boat and scenery. Loved your crew. Your flower box on top does get in the way of many views. Like to see how you are enjoying life!
Thanks so much Rob. Those flower boxes, although pretty, did go a little crazy and far higher than we had anticipated! 😳 🌸
Hi, I’m really enjoying your videos and love sitting with a cuppa and watching .
I’ll now watch all of them, they are well done and have lovely scenery 👏👏
That’s so lovely to hear! You’ve made our day. You can’t beat a cuppa and a relaxing cruise. Thanks for joining us 😊
Given. as I understand, that local pubs are disappearing at an alarming rate in the UK, I'm pleased to see you are doing your bit to ensure their survival
We are doing are best to keep them in business! It’s good to see pubs like the Shroppie Fly reopening after their hard times during covid 😊
You do make some beautiful videos! So relaxing and the music is just perfect.
This is so lovely to hear, and very reassuring, as that’s the emotion I’m always trying to convey. Thank you 😊
Another brilliant vlog. Great photography and choice of music to complement the scenery. Discovered your channel a few weeks when we walked by your boat at Napton Locks and enjoying watching your playlist.
Welcome aboard Lorraine! This is so lovely to hear. Glad you are enjoying the vlogs 😊
Such a lovely canal. Thank you for this wonderfull Video. Greetings from Austria❤
Thanks so much for joining us from Austria! We love that we can show a little bit of the UK to viewers from all over the world. Glad you enjoyed it. Lots more stunning footage to come as we continue our journey! It's such a beautiful canal 😊
Wow that's one clever landlord do your washing and get merry while you wait for it to wash and dry he deserves a gold star for that one 😎😎😎
It’s a great idea isn’t it! We will need to remember for the next time we pass through, and make sure we have lots of laundry! Thanks for watching 😊
Beautiful!!! I can’t think of anything else to say Caroline. I think I can guess your favourite bridge for next weeks vlog but I’ll keep it to myself. xx
Thank you Phil! I was excited editing the favourite bridge footage and finding the most perfect piece of music ❤️
The Shropshire's civil engineer certainly made a fine job of all the bridges - mostly built in stone and none with settlement cracks.
They really did! The bridges are just stunning and really have withstood the test of time. Loads more beautiful bridges coming up in the next video on the Shroppie. Thanks for watching 😊
I noticed the craftsmanship also on the bridges. I can't imagine having that level of skill. Those bridges are 150 plus years old and not a crack to be seen. Awesome.
Love the black and white photos lovely vlog thank you
That’s so lovely to hear 😊
Even more than usual, cruising with you guys seems like gently wafting through beautiful paintings of the countryside. Well done, you two. Selfishly, I am so glad you opted for this life. Hugs to you both and to Poppy and Hamish. Leigh
This is so lovely to hear Leigh. I’ve loved editing these videos on the Shroppie and finding just the right music. Glad you are enjoying them 😊
Beautiful places and bridges well done. Stay safe 🙏
Many thanks! It’s such a beautiful stretch of canal 😊
Lovely. Your vlog has opened my eyes to the beauty seen from the canals. No wonder they are so popular.
We are so glad we can take you on our journeys Shirley. That’s the magic of TH-cam 😊
Bridge 10 Wightwick Manor Bridge, “the pretty bridge” as my wife always called it.
Yes!!! We absolutely loved all the different bridges on the Shroppie 😊
Beautiful scenery. You should think about publishing a book of your photographs. 📷
Maybe one day! That’s a lovely idea and means so much 😊
Beautiful trip on the canals!
Thanks for joining us 😊
Beautiful, so lovely!
Got home from work, grabbed a salad, to the den and turned on YT. So relaxing, thank you so much. I really needed that❤.
This is so wonderful to hear! During our times researching this new life of ours and watching numerous vlogs, it’s lovely to give back to all those people that love watching narrowboat videos 😊
Really lovely video. Very relaxing. Life on the Shroppie.
Many thanks! It’s such a lovely canal 😊
Lovely video as always! And you went past us, it was before we knew you, but you could see the back of our boat as you were approaching, we were moored on the right, just before the Jamaican colours boat! Speak soon, miss you guys xx 😘
Miss you too!! Just rewatched that section and you can just about hear Pete saying ‘Rhapsody, I think we’ve seen that boat before’! Little did we know then that we would be boat besties 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard I know, seems strange when you think we didn’t know you then, feels like we’ve been friends forever! ❤️🥰xx
Another good video guys.
Thanks so much Paul 😊
Such lovely homes in Brewood, I love all the bridges. Your videos are always so calming and your choice in music is so fitting for the scenery as it passes by. At the start, when you show on the map which way you are traveling, it's a very nice touch. I'm always curious to see when I view others and gather the maps online, no need when you do it for me. Your skills with the drone are awesome. Safe travels till next week..take care.
That’s so lovely to hear. Choosing the music is one of my favourite parts of the editing process. It can change the mood so much! Glad you are enjoying the videos. Lots more beautiful bridges to come in the next video 😊
What a beautiful canal, looking forward to this one 👍👍❤️
It’s definitely one of our favourites ! Add it to your list. When will you be launching ? 😊
Brewood and Gnosall both excellent places on this canal I feel so lucky it's "home". Back down that end of the canal in 11 days too 🎉 Loved seeing it, music makes it just right
Such a lovely stretch! It’s been wonderful editing and reliving this trip. And soon we will be at the lock will our own personal lockie 😘
Beautiful vlog, gorgeous Brewood, just a lovely canal, thank you both for taking us along🙏✝️🙏🇨🇦
We are so glad you can join us on our travels 😊
sounds like you like the Shroppie, we have booked a holiday starting from Penkridge next year and plan on going up the shroppie then turn around again.
It’s such a beautiful canal. You will have such a wonderful time! Stay in touch 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard great are there some good quiet moorings to be had, we plan on going as far as Knighton whar then turning around
Where did you purchase your boat and did you have to take lessons in driving it…….. great video
Thanks so much Gordon! We purchased our boat from Russell Narrowboats in Burton Upon Trent. Fantastic group of guys to work with. They truly brought our ideas to life! We did the 2 day RYA Helmsman course at the Narrowboat Skills Centre at Debdale Wharf a week before we launched, not required but highly recommended. It gave us a lot more confidence with our own boat. Here’s a short video I made of what was covered on the course th-cam.com/video/dOlNleVafzQ/w-d-xo.html

They certainly get a hold of our hearts don’t they. I have mixed emotions editing these videos with Jasper still there with us. Sad because we miss him but happy that he lived a good long life, and loved being a boat dog, and we have these lovely video memories. ❤️
@@onedaymoreaboard superb will also be in your heart ❤️ 💙
