I hated Lex luthor in BVS because he was more like the Riddler instead of a smart , calm , and also scarily cool looking lex luthor

Luthor in the 90's animated Superman series = best Luthor. Sauve, cunning, psychotic. But also could be very practical when he needed to be.

I never watched the film, but when someone identified him as Luthor, I was like "Wait, I thought that was the Riddler." Honestly, if you replaced every time someone said "Lex Luthor" with "The Riddler" or "E. Nigma",...well, it wouldn't have made the movie much better, but it'd be one less thing people would complain about, I think.

In Kingdom of the Crystal Skull the fridge didn't bother me as much as Shia LaBeouf's CGI Tarzan scene. It was CGI for the sake of CGI and it looked incredibly fake. Plus, the entire alien skull thing was just stupid. What completely topped it off was the space ship / tardis; whatever you want to call it, taking off. I don't know why some people focused on the fridge. The movie lost me before that scene and then kicked me when I was already down with the moronic ending.

Bad scene, but not for the reasons they cited and not nearly as bad as Luke throwing the lightsaber over his shoulder.

Also Lucas had the Idea for midi-chlorians as early as 1977. The following is a reddit post by u/Darknast, (I did not write this, but I agree with his point of view.):
I just finished reading the book "The Making of Star Wars" by JW Rinzler, a very interesting book wich i recomend to any fan to read.
At the end of the book there is an extract of an interview with Carol Titelman where George Lucas expands the backstory of some characters and other thing of Star Wars wihch was needed for writers to write novelizations, comics, etc.
I found very interesting one section of the explanation of the force. This are George Lucas words in 1977:
"The Force gives you the power to have extrasensory perception and to be able to see things and hear things, read minds and levitate things. It is said that certain creatures are born with a higher awareness of the Force than humans. Their brains are different; they have more midi-chlorians in their cells*."*
Personally i never understood the problem with the midi-chlorians, never bothered me, but i find pretty ironic that George Lucas got criticized to hell by hardore fans for "Killing the mistique of the force" by introducing the midi-chlorians in TPM when in fact the concept existed since the first movie.
Anyway, i just wanted to share the extract of the interview because i freked out when i saw those words in a 1977 and i thought it was interesting.

I never understood what's wrong with midichlorians. Qui Gon says that midichlorians reside in all living things. That means that all living beings are connected through the force in some way shape or form. That also means that everyone (yes, even you) can be trained and learn to manipulate the Force, a high midichlorian count is just an indicator of a strong natural talent/attunment and guess what? That's not really different from being the "choosen one" now isn't it?
Qui Gon just did some world-building, he gave a pseudo-scientific explanation to what we already knew. It's still sci-fi/fantasy-esque but also sciency enough that you can think "Yeah, if that was real life that could make sense as an explanation"

    • @DepravedMorgath

    • @bigjermini
      @bigjermini 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      True.
The arguments against midichlorians include the part where they say "the force flows through everything". Saying midichlorians go against that.
But goofies forget Qui Gon also said midichlorians help us connect with the force. He never negated the force flowing.
It would also allow for a more in depth pseudoscience. Midichlorians and the force could work on the quantum level...which would totally explain like...everything. Especially interstellar communications of the force and people "sensing" one another.
Midichlorians would put out signals, hormones etc to the body, brain and nervous system, allowing one to perceive danger, move faster, heal, strength, etc.
The force would be lowest of low level particle/energy similar to light. Flows as an energy, but can be a particle with mass working in a chain, if altered right.
Telekinesis, force push and even lightning could be explained by that.
The brain sends the signals to the midichlorians to alter the force energy in the body to turn to a particle. Can alter them in a "chain" like formation to lift, pull, and push objects. Can "charge" the force to attract and flow electrons for the force lightning effect.
Force powers are just an extension of one's imagination/ingenuity. Like how Leia pulled herself back to the ship. Midichlorians put her body in a stasis of sorts, the force energy turned into particles forming a "rope", and she simply "pulled" herself to the ship.
The mind links are done through quantum entanglement of the force particles and midichlorians that communicate with the mind.

    • @TheToxicP
      @TheToxicP 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

For all that Star Wars is considered Science-Fiction, it was always more "Fantasy" than having anything close to resembling science. Star Wars was a Soap opera in space, and I think most people preferred the more nebulous concept of the Force. By defining the Force in some pseudo-scientific terms, it eliminated some of the mystery of the Force itself (and I don't believe fans wanted that mystery destroyed). Don't get me wrong, this isn't what made me groan about the prequels. Much of that was the later dialog /interaction between Anakin & Padme (attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith). In terms of the Phantom Menace, I thought it solid enough...with Jar Jar being annoying and Anakin fighting a space battle as a boy (destroying a Capital ship) being outright absurd.

@@GrandSupremeDaddyo it's pretty obvious that there would have to be multiple, otherwise where did it come from? Born from nothing? It either has to asexually or sexually reproduce. So it either has parents, or has a genetic copy in the ocean. It doesn't have to be a parallel earth simply because paradox did a shitty explanation of the multiverse theory. I'm not discrediting the possibility, simply stating that it doesn't HAVE to be a parallel earth. And even if it had parents, it's base instinct would be to reproduce, like all other life. Protecting it's own species. Simply because paradox has more than one does not remove the possibility that the Cloverfield monster from the first movie didn't find a mate, meaning it could very well not purposefully attacking new your. Similar to Pacific rim. The monsters weren't attacking the cities on purpose, their goal was to get to a specific destination. The original monster could have had a specific place to go, likely to find a mate, but New York just happened to be in the way. This isn't hard to understand people.

@@mixerD1- "Hero's journey" is a literary device, not a statement of the character's personality or even actions. It's "whose story is this? Who goes through the most change in their arc?" Hence the quotation marks, denoting a title.
For example, the original Star Wars trilogy: Luke is the MC so it's his "hero's journey". However, the Prequels are Anakin's "hero's journey" because HE is the MC--but no o9ne tries to argue that Anakin is a Good Guy, or in the way you mean it, a hero.
Whatever one thinks of Elizabeth: the story starts with her dream/recollection, carries through to the end, where she waits on the beach. She /changes/ through the trilogy (for good, or ill; it doesn't matter). SHE is the one who wants the adventure, whose character drives the plot forward. Will? He's just the love interest. Jack? Sidekick-cum-antagonist. Neither Jack nor Will essentially change who they are. Will starts out an honourable scoundrel and ends the same way; Jack only shows some stuff that was already there; he doesn't change at all. Elizabeth goes from being a silly girl who does as she's told to a woman who raises a son alone, and has become what she is no matter how she had to do it. She also goes through the most Actual Tragedy, having lost her father and her livelihood and also her love for 10 years at a stretch. She's the one who has grown/devolved/changed the most.
Hence, it is her "hero's journey".

I hate "the chosen one" storylines & concepts **eyes rolling**...& that's exactly the point, that yes, absolutely anyone of us could, can & does have access to the Force which is "an energy field, created by all living things. It surrounds us & penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together"; in many cases, it's the "force of Will" that is actually on display...like the force choke - just look at any situation such as a board/council meeting, etc. where one character makes another stop talking cold with no words able to come out of their mouth & throat with just a single sideways glance...**THAT** is what is on display when Darth Vader "force chokes" a subordinate officer in an early scene from Episode IV (nevermind that Grand Moff Tarkin is shown throughout the entire film to hold superiority & dominance over Vader himself...although the case could be made that Vader *knew* how everything would eventually happen - another aspect of the force is the ability to see things before they happen, or to guess the most probable of all possible outcomes...also known as 'Intuition', which again, we every single one of us all have to varying degrees of sensitivity & which can also be further developed through training, etc. - & that he also knew what Tarkin's eventual fate would be, & simply let him & all the events take their course). Either way, it's no surprise that these ill-conceived "midiclohrians" were never mentioned again in any substantial manner almost immediately after their unasked-for-&-unwelcome introduction...if we take the viewpoint of "everything is canon", then I can live with the fact that maybe these microscopic organisms are attracted to Force-users, & are an indication of their current Force-sensitivity, etc. it could even be spun so that it's also an indicator of Sith sentiments, as they could be averse to those leaning on/towards Dark-side tendencies.

They were just as a good as the first, less self-contained (the 2nd one pretty much just says "now watch the 3rd") but still brilliant in all the other ways. The focus shift onto Jack carrying the franchise absolutely began at the 4th film. Never before that did it *depend* on him and that's the key. He's not a character that can carry a film by himself. Didn't help that the performance from him from 4 onward seemed a bit uninvested as well, but regardless, the main fault was absolutely how centered around him the plot was. As well as the loss of a bunch of other characters who helped gel the films together previously.
It's a bit like Jack says in the 3rd film: "the world's not getting smaller mate, there's just less of it". Kinda prophetic for what was to come. I think they did a bit better with the 5th film and people are a little harsh on it, however it still retains the same essential problem. If they ever wanna make another good entry in that series (which I don't think they even need to do), they want it to be about all the pirates interacting with each other, not just one of them interacting with another. Pirates are meant to be duplicitous and turncoaty, that's part of the fun. A straightforward protag vs antag thing isn't a great fit, you want twists and betrayals, divided loyalties and begrudging alliances of self-interest in there. The 3rd film was wonderful especially in that particular way. When the focus is just on one character versus another for the whole thing, you can't have that at all and no wonder it feels more shallow.

It restored Judgement Day, thereby fixing the narrative, and took away the bratty kid and the happy ending of T2. It showed the moment Skynet took over, which was exciting. There's a lot to like in T3. It only suffers from a lack of Linda Hamilton and a villain that isn't as menacing as the T 1000/800.

So um the cloverfield paradox did explain why clover attacked New York City. In the movie there was this interview with a scientist about the particle accelerator being broadcasted on the TVs, and in this interview he theorized that activating the particle accelerator could tear the fabric of reality and things would just start spilling out all over the different realities and periods of time. And that is precisely what happens when the particle accelerator is activated. Each event that takes place in cloverfield, 10 cloverfield lane, and the cloverfield paradox is all kicked off with some sort of explosion. The examples being the explosion Hud filmed on the roof before the monsters attacked New York , the explosions that John Goodman’s character described when the aliens invaded for the first time, and the explosion that the astronauts boyfriend whitenesses through his blinds when they fired up the particle accelerator. Although not said specifically I believe that all three explosions take place at the same time but in there own respective realities, and that the explosions are a byproduct of the fabric of reality being torn open by the particle accelerator. And that with these holes that were opened the aliens, clover, and copies of people from alternate realities were able to cross over to other realities and start messing stuff up.
But that’s just my two cents.

He has a rich backstory that turned him into the person he is and his development is over. It might have worked if the idea was to show his story but to continue his timeline where we left off just feels like they filmed fanfiction.

TBH, I always saw Jack Sparrow as the lead. He has his own story in the movies, but usually is always needed to fix things. He is the queen in the chessgame. It looks like he is not that important, but with his moves all around he is responsible for half of every movie. In POTC4, he just becomes Hannah Montana with that blonde hair and those weird expressions. In the 5th one, he just rows along. And even if it seems he is only serving himself, he does compromise by using both problems(his own and the other persons problem), and play it out against each other.
