- Brad Tilden is a general aviation pilot and the retired CEO of Alaska Airlines.
In this episode, we sit down with Brad to find out about his aviation roots, including his Dad who worked on the "moon buggy" first utilized on the surface of the moon during Apollo 15. He got his pilot's license as a young man and continues to fly regularly.
His working career took him from a paperboy, to a dishwasher on an Amtrak train, and eventually to the CEO position with Alaska Airlines. We covered a range of topics including lesson learned during tragedy, leadership and decision making, and the challenges of leading a company through a merger.

Alaska Airlines has been on my radar for years, as a final destination in my Pilot career. The overwhelming care and compassion emitted by these two has made the pull to join Alaska fiercely strong. My retirement from the Coast Guard is in a year. I’ll be watching you Alaska. Solid podcast.
Hope to see you in the future!
Awesome podcast!! Fantastic guest and questions.
TH-cam’s algorithms brought me here after my views of your Southeast milk runs. And I’m glad it did! My wife is a retired UA FA and what a different culture. That video was very touching. So thankful you are sharing these with us! As an aside I was on a UA DC10 from SEA-DEN with Al Haines as captain. This was after the remarkable pilotage to get UA 232 to an airport with no hydraulics. Yes there were fatalities that day but many survived. My wife was flying that day-words can’t describe what ALL flight crews go through when these events occur. Blessings to you!
Thanks for sharing your story! What a privilege to get to fly with Captain Haines.
Really great podcast Brendan!
Another great interview Brendan! I didn’t remember the story about Monica’s grandmother. Very heartwarming and a great example of the kind of guy Brad is. And just overall so neat to hear Brad’s perspective on things now that he’s been retired a little while.
It not every day you get a chance to talk with a CEO of a airline company I feel like we can learn from it
I love aviation industry and what it does for all of us
And i hope all of your grandparents and parents are happy with where you are. It is nice that you recognize them and there stories is just as much part of your story.
It a small thing like a plaque or paver and honor them so power full I love walk around those kind of places wishing i could be hearing all the stories of all people that get recognized those are on the pavers what builds community in a business or organization
So thank you so much for your podcast
And happy flying
Julian
