This seems like an awful idea because AEW can't gain anything from it. If Punk looks like a maniac, people still feel there are unclear details regarding Tony being the boss, Hangman going into business for himself, Colt rumors, the Young Bucks refusing to meet with Punk, Punk still being let to wrestle and Joe taking happy pics with him post-match. I understand CM Punks attitude. He is very convicted to the life he lives and is very opinionated on his idea of right and wrong. Which rubs some people the wrong way. What people don’t understand is, Brian Danielson is the same person. He just goes about handling people a different way. More of a guy who will take you aside and explain to you you’re wrongdoings. Instead of confronting you and making sure you know what you did wrong. CM Punk is a product of his environment growing up, as we all are. He stands up for himself, without apology. My wife and I attempted to watch an AEW show recently and then watched a WWE Smackdown. She doesn’t watch much and was a great stranger test to share her perspective on both. We couldn’t watch AEW for 15 minutes bc it was all over the place and Smackdown kept her attention complete because it was presented so smoothly for a viewer to watch. Even if they are not a fan.

I figured all along Tony’s “I feared for my life” moment was Punk getting in his face with some four letter words. Which is more than enough for any boss to fire your ass on the spot. But his handling of it was a total train wreck. All he needed was a press statement, “We’ve come to terms on the release of CM Punk due to irreconcilable differences. We wish him well.” Over, done with.
If Punk really was all in TK's face, why did Tony allow Punk to immediately go wrestle Samoa Joe and not change the finish so Samoa Joe goes over? Even if you were going to just suspend Punk, you'd still have him lose.

Neither scenario changes people’s opinion about the parties involved. Option three is it turns out Punk straight up mauled Perry out of nowhere, in front of everyone and Tony not only still had him go out and wrestle but go over. If Punk committed straight up assault, there was no need to screw around with disciplinary committees or any other corporate theatre. The fact that Tony still had Punk go over and suspended him before finally relenting and letting him go means he still thought he could salvage the situation. So either it wasn’t that bad or Tony was such a CM Punk sycophant he wanted to let him get away with it. And if Punk (who was effectively management) assaulted Jack Perry without provocation, how much of an asshole is Tony Khan for suspending him for over half a year? No upside whatsoever

The hypothetical situation I laid out, where Punk committed assault is implausible for reasons I also laid out. In advertising the release of this footage, AEW are teasing some kind of bombshell that’ll show CM Punk and WWE what for. Problem is the worst case scenario for Punk also makes Tony Khan look like asshat. Hence why I finished by saying “No upside whatsoever”

Thing is Tony Khan said that he was “scared for (his) life” when referring to CM Punk, in which case he would have been well within his rights to just terminate him on the spot. The fact that he suspended Punk at first and had Bryan Danielson weigh in suggests the situation was never that heated between TK and Phil. The stuff about Jack Perry being a disrespectful little pr*ck backstage is all but confirmed by Tony Schiavone refusing to give his version of events because he “doesn’t give a sh*t”. And Schiavone is an AEW official who could easily come out and say that Perry’s behaviour was exaggerated. He’s not above this fray, I don’t know him but I’m confident in saying he hasn’t refuted Punk and put the arguments to rest because he’s not willing to say the same things under oath. Jack Perry definitely did something and he absolutely should have been suspended without pay if not terminated before Wembley. The Four Pillars of AEW is an asinine concept anyway. At the end of the day though, if Punk did worse than what he’s already admitted (or beating Jungle Jerk-Off senseless) suspending Jack Perry for half a year is still a passive aggressive, d*ck move on Tony Khans part.

Not only physically but financially by getting Punk to still do the match on their biggest show ever. Imagine what a disaster that could have been if the "real" world title match was just cancelled and Punk never appeared. Talk about "killing the town".

This seems like an awful idea because AEW can't gain anything from it. If Punk looks like a maniac, people still feel there are unclear details regarding Tony being the boss, Hangman going into business for himself, Colt rumors, the Young Bucks refusing to meet with Punk, Punk still being let to wrestle and Joe taking happy pics with him post-match. I don’t know what happened back there, what I can say is that from all accounts… It sounds like Tony Kahn let his corporate children play without supervision and their ego and attitudes let them think that they are bigger and better than some of the best that the business has ever had. Instead of soaking up all of the information that they could give and becoming better wrestlers… they simply acted like they were better and didn’t need the help and essentially spit in the face of the best in the business.
Which, CM Punk stood up for them and tried to put the children in their place. those children came into his dressing room and twisted the knife that led to the fight. Then, Jack Perry decided he was going to go against everybody’s recommendation and advice and again spit in the face of all of them and his ego got put in check by somebody who was standing up for the decent people of the locker room.
I understand CM Punks attitude. He is very convicted to the life he lives and is very opinionated on his idea of right and wrong. Which rubs some people the wrong way. What people don’t understand is, Brian Danielson is the same person. He just goes about handling people a different way. More of a guy who will take you aside and explain to you you’re wrongdoings. Instead of confronting you and making sure you know what you did wrong. CM Punk is a product of his environment growing up, as we all are. He stands up for himself, without apology. Demanding respect to give respect.
People just don’t like being told they’re wrong, when their ego always tells them they’re right. Even if they’re not.

My wife and I attempted to watch an AEW show recently and then watched a WWE Smackdown. She doesn’t watch much and was a great stranger test to share her perspective on both. We couldn’t watch AEW for 15 minutes bc it was all over the place and Smackdown kept her attention complete because it was presented so smoothly for a viewer to watch. Even if they are not a fan.
I know what you mean. I can try to get my friends who do not watch wrestling watch WWE than AEW. When they watch WWE, they'll know some of the names. With AEW, they'll be clueless.

I figured all along Tony’s “I feared for my life” moment was Punk getting in his face with some four letter words. Which is more than enough for any boss to fire your ass on the spot. But his handling of it was a total train wreck. All he needed was a press statement, “We’ve come to terms on the release of CM Punk due to irreconcilable differences. We wish him well.” Over, done with.
If Punk really was all in TK's face, why did Tony allow Punk to immediately go wrestle Samoa Joe and not change the finish so Samoa Joe goes over?

Either we just see that Punk choked Jack Perry after exchanging words (which is already the prevailing narrative) or that Punk actually threw hands which kind of makes him a liar. Neither scenario changes people’s opinion about the parties involved.
Option three is it turns out Punk straight up mauled Perry out of nowhere, in front of everyone and Tony not only still had him go out and wrestle but go over.
If Punk committed straight up assault, there was no need to screw around with disciplinary committees or any other corporate theatre. The fact that Tony still had Punk go over and suspended him before finally relenting and letting him go means he still thought he could salvage the situation. So either it wasn’t that bad or Tony was such a CM Punk sycophant he wanted to let him get away with it.
And if Punk (who was effectively management) assaulted Jack Perry without provocation, how much of an asshole is Tony Khan for suspending him for over half a year? No upside whatsoever

I’m not saying one way or another what happened but in trying to look at this logically I believe CM Punk’s version of events.
The hypothetical situation I laid out, where Punk committed assault is implausible for reasons I also laid out. In advertising the release of this footage, AEW are teasing some kind of bombshell that’ll show CM Punk and WWE what for.
Problem is the worst case scenario for Punk also makes Tony Khan look like asshat. Hence why I finished by saying “No upside whatsoever”
@chuckles9767 You’re making valid points. Thing is Tony Khan said that he was “scared for (his) life” when referring to CM Punk, in which case he would have been well within his rights to just terminate him on the spot.
The fact that he suspended Punk at first and had Bryan Danielson weigh in suggests the situation was never that heated between TK and Phil.
The stuff about Jack Perry being a disrespectful little pr*ck backstage is all but confirmed by Tony Schiavone refusing to give his version of events because he “doesn’t give a sh*t”. And Schiavone is an AEW official who could easily come out and say that Perry’s behaviour was exaggerated. He’s not above this fray, I don’t know him but I’m confident in saying he hasn’t refuted Punk and put the arguments to rest because he’s not willing to say the same things under oath.
Jack Perry definitely did something and he absolutely should have been suspended without pay if not terminated before Wembley. The Four Pillars of AEW is an asinine concept anyway.
At the end of the day though, if Punk did worse than what he’s already admitted (or beating Jungle Jerk-Off senseless) suspending Jack Perry for half a year is still a passive aggressive, d*ck move on Tony Khans part.
