Sadly, for me as a hardcore Sly fan, that period: 1989-2005 is my least favourite in terms of production & Sly's performances & even his appearance on shows like this. He strayed too far from who he was that audiences fell in love originally. He was exhilarating in 70s movies like Lords of Flatbush, Capone & Death Race 2000 but really made the swing into genius & immortality as both Writer & Actor in Rocky & the next 12 years brought the brilliance of Paradise Alley, Rocky II, Night Hawks, Rocky III, First Blood, Rambo: First Blood pt II, Rocky IV & Over The Top as well as the near misses of FIST, Escape To Victory & Cobra. I think his ambition to show his versatility was a bad misfire because of poorly chosen projects like Oscar, Stop or My Mom Will Shoot, The Specialist, Assassins, Daylight, DTox & Get Carter. There were some gems in there like Lock Up, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man & Copland . The 90s began badly with Rocky V, a movie I genuinely hated for what it did with the characters in much the same way Rambo III had been but it was a useful reset that eventually paved the way for Rocky Balboa in 2006 & Sly's rebirth as a performer & comeback as a popular movie star with audiences & what followed was a really enjoyable spate of movies Rambo, The Expendables & Creed. I hope that a Director who genuinely loves him is able to cast him in a movie that is to him what True Grit was to John Wayne & gets him the Oscar he deserves
