Grinding in the Johto games is agony. I’m glad it wasn’t just me this whole time and even people infinitely better than me like this guy acknowledge it.
I don't think the guy who popularized the concept of "death of the author" was ever expecting the author to rise up and start answering the critics questions
Actually literally the opposite. Roland Barthes (the guy who wrote the death of the author essay) wrote it because art critics were putting way too much stock in the life experiences and writings of authors that were being studied and too little emphasis on the actual text of a work itself (where 99% of the public will start and end their relationship with art of any kind). Of course, this kind of double commentary wasn't possible in the 60s when death of the author was written.
This guy is pretty interesting! He’s obviously pretty knowledgeable about the game, and is basically laying out what his strategy would be to help his fans. I don’t feel like his critiques are really malicious, so love the original videos, his video, and now this video!

Him saying that he's "probably the best nuzlocker in the world" isn't a lie or red flag btw. AFAIK, he has done nuzlockes of all mainline games and fan-roms/games with harder rulesets than most people, (set, no overleveling, no items, no legendaries, and he bans certain pokemon for being too good i.e. Blissy and Garchomp, are the usual rulesets and he sometimes does more).

The little I’ve seen from PC has been good. He gives good information about nuzlockes and is really chill about it. Yeah it definitely takes some time to get used to PCs way of talking and know it's not an insult. @@Forslimjims For me, I'm...iffy due to the way this is structured, at points it really felt like he was criticizing that RT did X thing instead of Y, but that was more at the start; halfway through it really felt more like "Huh, I woulda done X, but I can see why he did Y." But overall, something about it just felt...iffy to me, and I did watch the video from start to finish. It felt like he was expecting RT to be a "pro" Nuzlocker who should know all the strats and info off the top of his head and try to rush down the "optimal" and "correct" stuff, instead of it being a bit more casual and off the cuff. Kind of a speedrunner's or competitive player's mindset. That's how it felt to me. (Not saying that was the intent.)
@@NimonoSolenze I see what you mean. I just wanna clarify that when he criticizes anything the "subject" is doing, its for educational purposes. I'd suggest you watch some of his other reactions to nuzlockes, sometimes it comes off as banter, but he's genuinely interesting and fun to watch. both RT and him are my favorite creators on this platform.
Found your channel through Pokemon Challenges and I gotta say: it's great to see TH-camrs like you being so genuine and happy. It really seems like you're doing all of this because you enjoy it, and I appreciate the positivity. Keep it up!
I suggest you try watching his vid on why Johto is bad, he presents a lot of facts. Like how the Cyndaquil line has identical base stats to the Charmander line. How the lvl curve is horse shit etc. How is it normal to meet a wild lvl 22 after the Pokemon League
Also, go look up the ROM hacks “Sacred Gold” & “Storm Silver” They keep the identity of the gen IV Johto games mostly intact, but fix/ improve a bunch of areas throughout the games (better lvl curve, un-branched unnecessary branching paths, adding all gen IV Pokémon from the beginning... etc). In my opinion, they make the games waaaaay better (though also harder) while making only relatively small changes
@@lynxplayz8474 i actually hadn't thought about it being said from a technical (i guess?) standpoint, i thought it was just stating his opinion on the region and games as a whole. which is still valid but i quite like johto myself.

Wait, why did she redo the fight?
@@ZwynGotcha Jaiden got some really unlucky crits that left her with a team of Pokémon all weak to fire types when walking up to Flint’s room so she cut to the chase and just reset to the last save before her remaining team got cremated. Yeah it definitely takes some time to get used to PCs way of talking and know it's not an insult. His expressions rarely let you know that he's enjoying something, he'd be an excellent poker player for sure. It really helps that he flat out says that he enjoyed the content he's reacting to and that the creators did a good job, it helps keep the toxic viewers from going after people for having a different opinion on a game made for children.
I just have to say that my favorite thing about this channel and Daniel as a person is that he’s super humble and wholesome. He’s a real person and not some product of the TH-cam algorithm. I’ll never stop watching his content.
Dude wasn’t that critical, I don’t understand the comments acting like the reviewer was harsh on him.

I guarantee it's kids who saw "review" and the thumbnail and didn't watch the video. If the thumbnail said "Best Nuzlocke I've Seen" I'm sure there wouldn't be the same level of upset people.
My biggest complaint with the guy is his comments about Jhoto
@@hanakoisbestgirl4752 depending on what you want from a Pokemon game it can be argued to be the worst. I do love Johto, but the leveling curve is actually garbage becuase of how open the games structure is. And even worse in Kanto
@@Forslimjims For me, I'm...iffy due to the way this is structured, at points it really felt like he was criticizing that RT did X thing instead of Y, but that was more at the start; halfway through it really felt more like "Huh, I woulda done X, but I can see why he did Y."
But overall, something about it just felt...iffy to me, and I did watch the video from start to finish.
Jan does this kind of content as a way to educate his viewers(besides ofc getting some following from big streamers LOL), that's why he deliberately points out every single mistake and follows up with what he feels is the best course of action.
I'd suggest you watch some of his other reactions to nuzlockes, sometimes it comes off as banter, but he's genuinely interesting and fun to watch. both RT and him are my favorite creators on this platform.

"Johto sucks so much" i actually gasped aloud when he said that
I suggest you try watching his vid on why Johto is bad, he presents a lot of facts.
