Well i personally got on a plane like 40 times this year , i travel a s** ton .. but I do work for an airline so traveling is easier for me ..almost every weekend i fly out somewhere ..

Great overview and presentation! I own the XM4 for a while and love them, this really shows the difference between the both. A lot improved, but I will keep mine for a while. And another note: Thanks for not using those annoying zoom-cuts that everyone else does who doesn't know how good video presentations are made. I often can't watch those to the end. Yours is an absolute pleasure to watch!

fyi I use the new model XM5, totaly not worth over the XM4. XM4s are better in every single way except the weight of the headphones, nothing else, even the ANC is worse than the previous version. You are better of with what you have atm. Not worth the investment of the new model, I have them for 7 months now and I totaly regret switching to them....

I even sent my current ones to the repair service twice (still under warranty) once they got this feedback-whine bug (the first repair was botched, so I had to let them be rapaired a second time), because I really want to keep them as long as possible.
Awesome review 💥💥💥 I have the XM3’s and still LOVE them but…..there are two things that drive me crazy - lack of multipoint connection, and the headphones auto connecting to the last device used. I use multiple devices (hence the need for multipoint) but my XM3’s automatically connect to last device used and it’s always a guessing game (which forces me to pull out devices and investigate) as to which device they’re connected to when I turn them on. XM5’s are on my radar…🤩
when you have 2 headphones, there is no point in a multipoint connection. JK

I have to say this is without doubt the best review of a product I've heard on TH-cam. Clear, concise and to the point, I like that. Yeah I'm going to go with the XM4s instead of the 5s. I like to fold my headphones as I travel a lot and the sound quality is negligible between the two, at least to my aging ears. I guess it's like any updated product you gain some new features and you lose some treasured ones. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference as to what you're looking for in pair of good quality headphones. I would have gone with the XM5s had they been foldable.

absolutely LOVE the XM4 model. if these weren't so premium priced I'd love to get a new pair to then have a back up for when batteries die, since u can charge while using XM4

Thank you for this review. I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Pro2 Earbuds several months ago after purchasing my 2022 Samsung 55 inch OLED SB95 4K television. I didn't like the way the earbuds felt and they sometimes fell out my ears from walking around inside my apartment while watching television. I decided to purchase the Sony WH-1000XM4 Black Friday on sale for $228.00 at Best Buy. I love the Sony XM4 headphones and the sound quality watching television and battery life is fantastic. They are now back to the original price of $349.00 at Best Buy. I realize, there is the Sony WH-1000XM5 for $399.99 on sale at Best Buy for $349.99. I saved $110 on the Sony WH-1000XM4 and this is a good deal. The M4 is just as good as the M5 and I am satisfied with the M4's.
Might have to get the XM5’s. I had the XM3’s then sold em to a friend after getting AirPods Pro, but I miss having over ear headphones with the much richer/fuller sound

@@X22GJP why would I spend $500 for such inferior headphones… yeah they’re apple, but sound quality isn’t as good, battery life isn’t as good, noise cancelling isn’t even close, and headphone settings/EQ doesn’t even compare in any way.

im hearing impaired and have 3 pairs of the XM3s. The 4s voice when turning on was a little too quite for me to hear. The "power on" lady if u will. Is the volume of her voice the same level of the 4 on the 5s?

Xm5 voice superior. First review I’ve seen that clearly showed that. I would still like to see weather resistance and cooling gel in the ear cup cushioning.

Hello, in one of the reviews I saw that the touch sensor leaves traces after use, stains on the black color of the headphones. Can you confirm it? if yes, does it also appear on silver?
A little late but yah the black gets dirty but the silver doesn’t
Does Anybody know the chances of sony releasing new colorways for the xm5? I was thinking of buying them but noticed that they don't have the same midnight blue colorway like the xm4.
What's your top three headphones for sound quality? am very picky with sound quality and am nervous whether these will be worth the extra money. I am from Australia and want some quality headphones for music and study. At the end of the dayI really don't need wireless.
Depend on your preference music. I'm tired of searching top notch sound quality, spending too much money, at the end your music preference is the key to answer that question.
1. Sony wh 1000xm4 / xm5 = all rounder with great battery and great companion app (the EQ & clear bass)
2. Sennheiser momentum 2 = great detail and more clarity with less bass than sony
3. Bang&olufsen beoplay H95 = great detail & vocal, but the app is bad
I'm using this wh1000xm5 now, just feel enough for me. Never disappointed with sony products

Would the XM4 be ok for Djing? The clunky folding on the XM5 is a dealbreaker for me. I am looking towards the Pioneer X10( to replace my Sony V700 that are on their last leg), but the X10 don't have bluetooth, so I may be stuck getting two pairs of headphones ether way.
Do the xm5 have a deeper ear cup than the xm4? Shallow ear cups on xm4 sucked

Have the XM2’s but use it sparingly since I got the Airpods Pro. Problem for me was the heavy clamping effect of the headphones that make it tiring to wear for more than an hour. How’s the XM5’s or XM4’s clamping effect? Can you wear it for more than 5 hrs straight? Airpods Pro is great but missing the fuller sound of over ear headphones. In my area XM4’s are at least $120 cheaper than XM5’s. Is the XM5 worth. It?
Xm4 are good enough. Not worth upgrade to xm5.
I find the XM4 is a little tighter on your head that the 5, the biggest thing I’ll give to the XM5 is that it’s incredibly light that you barely feel it.
I wish people would talk about it more but ambient sound mode is significantly better on the XM5 than the 4
this or the Bose QC45 for comfortable long session use ?

good review, I bought the xm5 and im thinking about returning them and getting xm4s and main reason for that is the design, i love the features xm5 has but i just hate how it looks, how big it is, how it feels. I wish the have had made them like xm2-3-4s
On the xm3s now and looking to upgrade, mainly for the dual connection. A question though. If I connect to my laptop and my phone, and am watching a video, and, if I get a call on my phone, can I answer it without any hassle? Or, do I need to actively 'switch'?
When you receive a call it'll automatically switch, it's like being connected to one device but two

Xm4:
Good comfort
Good sound quality with strong base
Bad ambient mode imo
Pretty good ANC
felt heavier than the xm5 but more comfortable head padding
Xm5:
Better sound quality imo
Stellar ambient mode
Thinner ear pads or maybe they just are much softer which does make your ears touch depending on your facial structure
The anc is better but it does tend to switch sometimes which might bother some it didn’t for me but yes i do touch the button somtimes
Overall: i went for the xm5 because the wind sound is quiet and the ambient mode is so much better.
Go for what your ears like i highly suggest you get both and return one 😂❤

Am I the only one or "put a hand over a headphone cap and you will hear a person speaking to you" was present since wh2? Like I have it in my wh3 and after watching most of the reviews it sounds like they selling this feature as something new. Was it not available in Wh4?

I occasionally suffer from anxiety and the noise cancellation of the XM4s really helps, so much so I consider them almost a medical device for me. Do you think the XM5s are a good upgrade in noise cancellation considering that I tried the Airpods Max which supposedly have better noise cancellation, but the difference wasn't worth the money for me, especially because I subjectively felt that the airpods max were worse at filtering out the anxiety inducing sounds? Also considering that I bought them with a great discount back then for ~300$ and I'll be able to sell the XM4s for ~200$?
Also ironically, the touch controls are so bad that they would sometimes make the anxiety worse for me. I've noticed that over time I've stopped using them altogether
After listening to different reviews for about an hour, honestly considering waiting for the XM6s or whatever comes with better noise cancellation next. But I might try the XM5s in store and/or wait for them to be discounted
@@MenkoDany Noise reduction on XM5s is great. Phone calls in coffe shops are also incredible, other side doesn't hear any other noice, only my voice. I think XM5s are absolutely top.
same!! when my anxiety starts kicking in, usually in the airport or somehwere busy the noise cancellation helps me so much
@@romantrojna I got the XM5s yesterday, the automatic noise cancellation is incredibly annoying and if anything, makes my anxiety worse. It keeps switching when I come close to a fan or a kitchen hood. And also randomly throughout the day. It's worse when I wear glasses. I try to keep the headphones firmly on my head without moving too much but it's not helping. So far I've learned to toggle nc on and off with the button as it temporarily resolves the issue. When at maximum, the NC is a smidge better, feels more "premium" I guess. The audio quality so far is a tiny bit better, I really really like the extra sound stage, things on the sides are more on the left/right, and things in the center are *really* in the centre. I use AutoEQ with Peace and Wavelet as I prefer having more control and I like starting with more neutral sounds and occasionally add bass/mid/treble like spices. Bass reproduction is more accurate but I could only tell with a really long and attentive listening session. So it's a subtle difference. Mids/treble are the same, maybe there is a tiiiny bit more clarity (no 100% sure yet) in the treble but not much else. So far I'm not happy with my purchase. I hope firmware updates will fix it, or that sony will at least give us the option to force maximum NC all the time. I also like that I have new batteries that haven't drained yet so I don't end up with 10% at the end of a day :D
Will pick up XM5's later on this year when i travel overseas again. Been looking at getting black ones to replace my sliver xm3's which work great still but need one for travelling and one for work which these will do great. Hoping there will be some price drops as Sony are known for doing quite often by the time i buy them
you may just want to get the xm4s. they are foldable and easier to travel with.
@@isaachaze1 already have my XM3'S which don't seem to be much of difference between them & xm4's. Disappointed you cant fold the XM5's but its not too much of a big deal for me

Suggest getting the Silver XM5s...the black ones collect fingerprints and oil stains too readily :(

You should check out the Yamaha L 700 a Bluetooth headphones I believe he could run rings around Sony premium feeling 360 audio with the app loud I bought these off of Amazon you should check them out
I love my YH-L700A, but the NC isn't nearly as good as the Sony's in my honest opinion (more like sub $200 category when it comes to ANC). Yamaha's headphone-app hasn't worked for like a month either for me which sucks. I'd still pick the YH-L700A over the Sony due to better audio, but for NC and App, Sony wins.

I wonder if the NFC removal was because almost no one used it. Still seems a shame to not include on a $400 product that probably should just have all the bells and whistles.
Lack of NFC is such a big disappointment for me. I use it every time to connect and disconnect to my headphones.

Walked into the store today and almost got the XM4 because the XM5 weren't on the sales floor at all. Thank god I asked...because its all locked up in their back storage. I choose XM5 over the XM4 because when I am paying several hundred dollars....a $50 difference is a no brainer!

@@X22GJP if both product were out at the same time that might be the case. Had the XM4 been on sale for maybe under $250 and not $350+, I might e been more compelled to get the XM4. The XM4 itself already has a pretty good review and comparing to other competitors. The XM4 would be the better deal overall. However because it wasn't on sale and the XM5 is considered the updated version of the XM4...its only natural to gravitate towards the newer model when the price differences is miniscule. Hopefully you understood this...we can talk about pro and con but a negligible difference in price and updated features is usually more than enough reason to go with the latter version.

Xm5 is noticbly lighter. I can wear them waaay longer even with my glasses on. Xm5 for me all the way.

There is only a fifty dollar difference between the two so I don't understand the issue. For the fifty dollar higher price if you are in the market you get the latest technology so for me it is worth it.
I keep hearing a annoying ass rattling noise whenever the bass hits on these. Sometimes even when nothing is playing it starts rattling. Its so fucking weird.......

What I care about is ANC. The AirPods max are hot garbage for ANC so I want something that will be very good
The XM5 ANC is very annoying. It's got this "auto NC optimizer" which you can't disable and basically sets your ANC level based on the noise around you. However this barely works, and it's really irritating that you can't select when you want the ANC to be set at full or not. I found the ANC perform worse than my old xm4 90% of the time. In fact it's significantly worse. A lot of people have reported about this, and until Sony fixes their useless AI software and allows users to enable ANC whenever they want this is a pair of joke headphones, considering their price.
Most if not all reviews I've seen have said the xm5 noise cancelling is at least as good as xm4 if not better at eliminating higher pitched sounds
@@KGS922 exactly what I thought and the reason I got the headphones. The ANC is worse in 90% of cases for me (a lot of other people have reported this as well). It only turns on when I'm in really noisy environments and even then it sometimes randomly turns off and I start hearing people. While I do appreciate having the option to set auto ANC, I don't like that it's forced on users and you can't enable/disable ANC as you like with every other ANC headphone. Sony has got a lot of complaints regarding this, we will see if they make any software updates regarding this.

Ye the xm4 earbuds do the same thing. It’s insane. U want to enable anc for the 13th time and it’ll switch itself back to transparency if ur just standing up and walking. Useless
I was using a Beats Studio 3 from 2017, by the way, it still works fine, but when comparing to Sonys, it’s day and night, XM4 is better in everything, and based on some reviews I bought the XM4, but the next day, I changed it to a XM5 because of the sound/mic quality on meetings, thanks to those 8 microphones that block external sounds better than the XM4, so I can have meeting wherever I want 😊
The right side of my Beats Studio 3 recently broke - terrible build quality and cheap plastic - so I just got XM4’s

That's a no brainer. I have the XM4 and getting the XM5. I'm all about sound quality. Not to say the XM4 did not sound great, they do, but having BT 5.2 and new sound chip and driver with tighter bass, the XM5 fits the bill.

The 4's are on Ebay for $260-270.
I must say the XM5s are awesome, however money spent I'm entirely content with my 4s.... they so far have handled a good butt whooping from me lol.. Nor can i spend more now.

It's not true, the ANC of the XM5 is not as good as that of the XM4 or Bose QC45.
They lack the bass compared to the previous model, dunno how I feel about it I liked the slight vibration and rumble
