History of Abdu Njie Manso by Ustaz Turay and Alaji Sosseh (MANDINKA VERSION)

Abdou Ndiaye (not to be confused with Alboury Ndiaye Bourba, king of Djolof) was a Muslim trader, merchant of goods but quickly specializing particularly in the slave trade, initially installed in Bougouli in Casamance; later, hired as a “regulo” (regular mercenary) in the Portuguese armies, he freed himself from it and became Woi's wren in N'Gabu.
Protected by King Maba (Mansa?) Jaxu M'Ba known as "Mundjuru M'Balllu", he arrogated to himself a large region of control by force and thanks to his alliance with the Portuguese (Joao Teixera Pinto) from 1894 to 1919 becoming "War entrepreneur" in the words of the historian Pélissier. He then submitted to his authority many local tribes (Papel, Beafada, Mankaani), forcing them to convert.
A cruel man
dot Everyone agreed on the harshness of his character and even a certain cruelty, so that legend has it that on his wedding day, to prove his firmness, he had his in-laws beheaded publicly (I don't know the reason). It was during this episode, say the traditionalists, that the griots composed the refrain of his following eulogy: "Abdou Ndiaye, Abdou Ndiaye, Manssa Man nênneh ...": "Abdou Ndiaye, Abdou Ndiaye, you are a (si ) great king that we must beg you (to calm you down) ... ”.
dot Around 1912, with a thousand armed men and his imposing cavalry, he pledged allegiance to Cherif Younouss Haïdara of Casamance, and proclaimed himself Emir of the province of Woi.
dot But in 1919, the French, having defeated the Portuguese - his former allies, invoked the law of the abolition of slavery that Abdou Ndiaye allegedly violated on several occasions and took him prisoner, while he was returning from a pilgrimage to Touba, after having received the blessing of Cheick Serigne Bamba.
Abdou Ndiaye died in captivity in 1925 in Cape Verde.
