So informative as I am renovating and old home in France and I have a huge cellar below the house, you have inspired me to think about what you have done, Thank you.
I'm glad that through out the years, y'all have documented it all. Nice to see it from start to finish:) Job well done. And it game me some ideas for my small dirt ground cubby hole in my pantry under the stairs.
We're glad we documented it too. It helps us to realize how much work it was and to appreciate it even more. Good luck with your 'cubby hole' root cellar. :)
Brenda, It is unbelievable to me that you are shy when people come to the stand. You both seem media trained in these videos! These videos seems like a show you would watch on a cable channel! I love the energy so much! Thank you for today's contribution!!
@@cf4880 Wow, you are too kind. Once I meet someone and start talking I'm fine... It's walking up to a stranger and starting a conversation that's harder for me. As for the videos... Thanks!!! We've learned a lot in the 4 years we've been doing it and are still learning new things every time. Thanks again for the kind words.
It looks so amazing. The boards were a great choice to hide the pipes. The whitewash was a great finishing touch. I would love to see braids of garlic and dried flowers hanging from the ceiling.
Thanks. I just said that to Donny---that I need to get things hanging on the walls or from the ceiling. This fall it should be FILLED up. I can't wait!
Putting this video together and seeing all of the work made us realize how hard it was. We're VERY thankful to have that project behind us and I can't wait to fill it up this fall.
We are extremely grateful for our farm/farmhouse. It really is everything a homestead could want. The root cellar and larder are definitely some of my favorite parts.
Do you get temps in January and February that is approx 5 degrees? Make ice. Use BIG BINS, and fill them up. Freeze it outdoors in the coldest months. If you have room; you would want a third of your root cellar to house the ice. You'll have a cooler cellar, and your produce will last longer. Not to mention; the humidity level will still be maintained. Remember; Not failures; but, learning experiences. Ice Houses were a thing. 😀
That's a great idea!!! I think we'll give that a try. I actually have 20 gallons of frozen tomatoes to thaw out....I might as well let them thaw in the root cellar. Thanks!
What a beautiful root cellar! For those of us who love to preserve and store food, it’s amazing!
I was thrilled when we first saw the root cellar when we toured the house. I'm very thankful for the many ways I can preserve food.
You two work so hard ... I am happy it all turned out for you all. Looks great.
We're happy it turned out ok, too. I'm looking foward to filling it up this fall.
Looks fabulous! And look at the room still available if needed....I love it!
Thanks! I'm really looking forward to filling it up this fall. 😊

@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 What a great idea!
Maybe thawing out everything (even your Thanksgiving turkey?) in the root cellar could be a 'thing'
